CT angiogram -what does it involve

Posted , 6 users are following.

My wife went to see a cardiologist with high BP, chest tightness at rest and ectopics on 24 hr ECG. She is 58, slim, never smoked cholesterol of 5.

Specilalist gabbled on at great speed and decided in the end to do CT angiogram and Echo.

Anyone had a CT angiogram? What does it involve?

A CT Angiogram is just like an ordinary CT Scan, it only becomes minimally invasive depending on the contrast material being used, that is, they may fit a line into you arm to enable them to inject contrast, otherwise there's nothing to it, 20 minutes and it's over smile

    Hi again gpgp,

I gave you all 3 in no paticular order of what i had the only reason i had to stay in over night i had a pain in my chest while i was in the machine you will go straight home also there are risk's with any scan that uses radiation choose what any one tell's you it will tell you in the booklet  if you were pregnant, you can't have it done or if your kidneys aren't working properly. There are a few reason's they will ask you anyway.

They give you a sedative to keep you calm i was very nervous  you are in the room on your own but the person who dose it is in another room next door talking to you plus it was cold were i went for mine you are best waiting for your pack to come that will explain everything in more detail why you are having it done.

I still ended up having the angiogram and an angioplas thats was in my first post were i had the balloon done all in one but it didn't work for me so ended up having a bypass least you no what to expect if you do end up having the other two i explained about this is to measure the calcium levels in the artry's plus other things which i suppose they explained to you.this can take from 30 to 60 mins but you don't have to worry if they don't find much it can be treated with tablets.

    Hi

At times my BP could be 100/200 other times much less.

Had lost of ECG nothing really showed up.

Eventially about 8 years ago I went for an angiogram. Arrived on the hospital ward consultant gave me a gown to put on. Inserted a camera in my groin said if my arteries where small I could get some brusing afterwards. You can watch the proceedure on a TV. My down side was ( he ) said do you know you are seriously ill. You are having  4 WAY BY PASS within a month. He then wheeled me in chair ( hospital proceedure ) for a heart scan, cannot remember the results. ALL this was not painful what-so-ever. Hope all goes well.
