Culture Report

i had seen my Dr. .3 days ago. She took cultures. I am in such pain today that I called to see if the results were in. The staff member told me all the cultures were negative. I was told to use NYSTATIN ointment. Since it is not a yeast infection or any other infection, can anyone recommend what I can use to stop this terrible soreness and vaginal burning. i am doing sitz baths that help for a few hours. The coconut oil is not helping. THANKS for any advice.

    hi girls

i think JUDE is right - its only some form of hormones that will give you proper relief but to moisturise i use an old fashioned nappy cream, Drapoline, UK. It has been such a help to me. Hormone cream inserted twice a week but the nappy cream night and morning on the outside has made me feel normal again. I soon tell if I stop using it, the burn comes back.

You may have to get it from that biggest of online retailers though! Not found it in the pharmacy locally recently.

i hope that this may help you anyway as you get the hormones to use sorted.

    All the best.

Maryann, i cant remember if you had tried oestrogen cream? How old are you? Is it to do with menopause? Have you been diagnosed with vaginal atrophy? If it is not menopause related then it could be vulvodynia.

      HI Suki,

i am 66. I had an early menopause at 48 due to benign tumor that ruptured my right ovary in 1996. I did have bad hot flashes day and night. i was on a low dose hormone pill for 6 years. I stopped them in 2002 when the report was released about HRT and breast cancer. I was fine until Sept. of 2015 when i started with UtI's. i had 16 UTI's in 3 years, hospitalized 6 times due to severe symptoms. I had yeast infections numerous times due to antibiotic use. Last fall I tried the MONA LISA TOUCH laser treatments. I only had 2 treatments since i got a yeast infection and that is when the vulva soreness and vaginal/vulva burning began. I used an estrogen cream for a month or two but i kept getting uti's. Do you think the antibiotics caused this issue? THANKS AS ALWAYS FOR YOUR ADVICE.

      Hi Maryanne,

For what its worth, I am convinced that my vulva and vaginal pain/burning is from 8 courses of antibiotics given to me in a matter of a few months for severe UTI symptoms (which i still have).

julie, I may have suggested this to you before, but have you tried drinking kefir? I had tried taking probiotics in capsule form and despite the expense they never helped with anything. Since discovering kefir a few years ago I've had little to no intestinal issues (I had developed fairly chronic diarrhea after menopause). One small glass a day and my body functions normally. Can buy it at the grocery store for far less than the capsules. Can't hurt!

      Hi Julie,

i think you are correct. i tried not taking antibiotics since early July. Unfortunately, I had to take them in mid September. I was hospitalized for 5 days due to a low heart rate. i had to get a pacemaker inserted. Certainly hope we can feel better soon. On Monday I am calling a VULVODYNIA specialist to see when i can get an appointment. It is a never-ending battle!

Vulvodynia is cause by trauma to the vulva area (either chemical, physical or due to infection) or trapped/damaged pelvic nerves. you can test for vulvodynia by touching lightly on the burning area with a cotton bud. If that touch is experienced as pain, then you have the hypersensitive, hyperactive nerves caused by vulvodynia.

No, I have not tried that. I do take probiotics, especially in light of all of the antibiotics I have taken, but not sure they are helping. I do agree with you though....it can't hurt. I will try .

It sure is. I was referred to a vulvodynia specialist this past August. He cannot see me until January and the pain clinic cannot see me until October of 2019!!! That is a look at Canada's pathetic health care system. I hope you have better luck!

Someone recently posted it was working for her, but I can't remember who or what her issue was, I'm afraid. Other than keeping a notebook I can't keep more than a few names straight!

Kefir is a healthy drink. Like a liquid yoghurt, but many more strains of live probiotics. The fruit versions have sugar. Better to get the plain and flavor them yourself if you don't like the taste. Good luck.

      Hi Yolanda,

Thanks for the doctor's name. i live next to Toms River. My doctor is ANDREA PRICE located in Eatontown. She prescribed another round of CLOBETASOL ointment. Also, an estrogen cream to use every night for 2 weeks and then 2 times a week. She also prescribed Amitriptyline, an anti-depressant that is used to calm nerve endings not for depression. I also have an appointment with Dr. Nancy Phillips, a vulvodynia specialist at Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick in December. I am hoping she can help me. As I have mentioned in a previous post, i believe all the antibiotics i have taken in the last 3 years due to UTI's caused this horrible health issue. Hope Dr. Tucker can help you. Best wishes.

There are many women who take amitriptyline for vulvodynia with success. I have not tried the oral medication yet but as you may have read, i have just recently had it compounded into a cream which is helping with some of my external nerve pain. I am taking gabapentin orally which is helping a little. I sure hope you get more help from this doctor you are seeing in December.
