    Hi Sweets,

My name is Marie. Having insomnia sucks to say the least! For years I had it consistently ever night, just couldnt shut my mind down. My doctor said I had "Mania Depression" I could go several days without sleep and crash. When I did crash, I only slept for a few hours. It wasn't good sound sleep, it was restless. I was always worrying about things, like my children, chores that needed to be done, bills, etc. I just couldn't settle down. Could not let things go and it continued to get worse. Tried several different medications, they were only bandaids. My husband would tell me all the time to "let it go." I had a melt down and snapped at him saying "I DON'T KNOW HOW!!" He said, "I have been waiting for you to ask for help, are you ready?" I just stared at him and whispered YES while I cried. My husband is such a good man, he held me through it all. When my emotions finally eased, he said " I need you to be brutally honest with me and tell me what is going on in you head. I need to be able to understand, so we can work on this together. This way the war you are fighting will no longer be alone. Let me carry some of the weight for you." More tears came, the difference was the release I felt. I began to pour my heart out to him about everthing, my parents, my brother and sister, our children. How all of it was in my head. He sat there for hours and just listened, soaking it all in. He said "now I want you to rest knowing that I got you." I did and it was peaceful, the first sleep in a long time that my mind stopped. My husband and I continued to work together. It took a while, the difference was now I had tools to help me. My biggest was and still is my husband. I had to learn to express my self, to not internalize everything. Communication is very important. I dont know what your story is, but I will listen if you want to share. I have been where you are, and if you want a copilot to lighten the load, Im here. No pressure, no judgements.

    hello everyone

i have been suffering from insomnia from time to time and i want to write some of my experiences

my sleep deprivation is a symptom of my obsessive compulsive disorder. when i first started to experience sleep deprivation I got obsessed with the hours i have to sleep. As i had to go to work the next morning I always went the bed with a mild anxiety about falling asleep.

    I need to sleep

If i sleep right now i will sleep 7 hours.

What will happen if I cant sleep?

I will be all tired again, i have to go to work and etc.

These things worsened my anxiety, even early in the morning i was thinking about whether i could sleep when i go to bed that night. I had extremely hard days at work and so on.

by the way everything was good in my life there was nothing else triggering my condition.

for a long time i did not accept to take medication That was a stupid decision. Cause all i think about was sleep and related things. My doctor prescribed me lustral 50 mg and Ativan.

after a time I was convinced that i have obsessive compulsive disorder and took my medication. It cured my insomnia. At first i rejected to take ativan or xanax ( half of 0.5 mg) like medication but now i guess this is a stupid thing n0t to take them also. Yes there are a lot of bad side effects of this medication but thing about the things sleep deprivation make to your body. it has very bad effects too. So when you dont take any chemicals to your body, you dont be all healthy. Unfortunately sleep is like oxygen to our body, even more important than eating healthy or doing sports. It is crucial. So when you reject to take medication or decide to "fight with this condition on your own" , you suffer both physically and mentally. And know that this is much much worse than the things a pill do to your body. I can talk like this because i rejected the medication for a long time and it was a waste of time and a lot suffering. You have to think about the profits and loss relation. Please note that sleep deprivation is much worse to your body and soul than the side effects of pills.

when i first took the lustral it was not easy. the first week was like blank even if i took the half of 50mg lustral. I was not like myself but in a short time it improved. the side effects changes from person to person. please take your medication with the sleeping pill your doctor prescribed. You cant get addicted to a pill only in 10 days. To make your sleep routine, take it at the beginning of your healing process. I will continue write about my experiences. because even if i live without sleep deprivation for long periods, it still sometimes haunt me. there are a lot to write.

I agree with you about the importance of sleep. However, I have worked to resolve things without medication, but using other things which are generally referred to as supplements.

The research tends to indicate that many people have some deficiencies and if those are not resolved they can impact on sleep. It is, however, a complex matter.

I have had insomnia for years, can go for months without any problems and then I start sleeping less each night until it gets to the stage where I am unable to sleep at all. I suffer with depression and anxiety so this does not help.. get into bed and anxiety takes over brain starts racing and will not shut down. I am so tired and really do not know what to do any more, any suggestions out there guys.

Hi Ann! Sorry to hear that! I was at a similar stage, but I can tell you two things that definitely helped me a ton!

      1. relaxing music
      2. exercise every day! i am not saying go to the gym and lift weights, in fact, try to avoid it I would say for this type of problem. Go out, be with nature, do gentle runs, go biking, do a water sport if you can, go hiking.

      Hope this helps (L)

    Hello all

I am new to the discussion. im 52 years old and have experienced insomnia for the past 2 years

I can either fall asleep and wake after 3 or 4 hours or not fall asleep at all.

i do suffer from anxiety, mostly health anxiety

my Dr put me on klonopin 0.75mg 2 years ago, now im on a taper to a small dose of 0.25 mg at bed which does not help me sleep at all.

I try good sleep hygiene, take 300mg of magnesium, 1 mg of melatonin, excercise daily and eat healthy

This insomnia is very debilitating for me.

i tried ambien a couple of times, didnt work, mirtazipine was awful. I just want to sleep with out any medications. any tips would help!

    I pray for you all

    God Bless you

    Hi anyone09042

I have had chronic insomnia for 5-6 years. I had tried every sleep aid available, nothing work, 2 to 3 hours of groggy disruptive sleep was a good night for me, usually much less. Also for a few year I was getting a discomfort just below my breast bone, it felt like I needed to burp but couldn't. Also bloating, anxiety and upper back pain. Doctor did blood tests that came back clear and said it must be due to lack of sleep! Anyway researching my symptoms myself I found a possible cause could be low stomach acid. I did the" baking soda" test ( 3 times) which confirmed I had no stomach acid. You need stomach acid to digest food and absorb nutrients . I then started drinking ginger & lemon tea first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (ginger is good for low stomach acid) and also taking a multi vitamin and mineral supplement and I can't tell you how much my sleep has improved. I now sleep 7-8 hours a night ( last night it was 9 hours) I have come to the conclusion that I wasn't absorbing the nutrients you need to sleep. (Low stomach acid is quite common as you get older apparently. I hope my story helps you or anyone else reading this.

      Hi PatsyPolly,

I seem to have the same problem with you. After an antibiotic treatment for COVID (azythromicine) I can't sleep anymore. I have some good nights, somehow related to what I eat in that day, but I couldn't put my finger on it so far. How long it took for you to fix your digestion? And can you please tell me what vitamin and mineral supplement helped for you?

      Thank you very much

I read on ChuckP that 4 ounces of tart cherry juice, the real expensive stuff, not the sugar spiced cheap stuff, gives a useful sedation as well as 2 passion fruit capsules per night works. Please let me know if anyone uses either.
