having had a few utis which were dealt with by antibiotics now find the irritation still there. advice from people including gp is dont jump into cystoscopy as it can leave you worse than before as theres no cure for irritable bladder. any helpful, comments.

Have you tried cutting down on tea and coffee? I have the same issues and I've noticed that it improves when I limit caffeine consumption.

I have a nervous bladder - only bothers me when I'm anxious about something. Maybe that is your problem, too?
For example:
If I have to do something I don't want to do I will have a strong urge to pee - even if I just went. I don't have it all the time, thank God, but sometimes it really gets me in it grip.
If I can successfully distract myself the urge will go away or I can relax, meditate or exercise it away.
Every time I think I have it figured out....it sneaks back up on me again in another anxious situation.
Being physically cold is a trigger.
I wonder if there is a forum somewhere on the 'net for "anxious bladder.?"
I think its separate from OAB but I'm not sure.

no im afraid mine is there all the time, especially since having a uti treated with antibiotics. in fact its worse quite often in the night. being cold makes it worse. irritation is my main symptom with some frequency.

How do you describe your "irritation?" Burning, pressure to urinate?
Have you tried the baking soda treatment?

irritation is like something is tickling my bladder from inside and wont stop, no burning, feels like pressure in there too. urination can be four times in night and about same in day, or even six. sometimes very little there and flow is quite slow. baking soda no use. tests all back show no e coli now. have been suggested its left irritation behind and i should try aloe vera to calm it. all dr can say is go get cystoscopy but that can make things worse having researched it, and if diagnosis is interstitial cystitis there is no cure.

Hi Ann
I would strongly recommend not to have cystoscopy , i have had this procedure 3 times and it has never worked in fact made my symptoms worse.
I have cut back on my fizzy drinks, i now drink de caf tea (suppose to help)
I seem to be having to put pressure on my bladder when i need to urinate and also if im am sitting down as soon as i get up i need to go, I really wish there was a cure for this.

given says all results show nothing though 5 weeks later i am still waiting for my biopsy results!!!
for the last week i have been having the feeling that i am leaking after i finish weeing, and i feel very conscious about it, thinking that i smell of wee.
never had this before feel very stressed about it.
Also i went onto google (like we do for everything nowadays) and i saw this Kegel 8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Floor Toner, read about it, i haven't read all about it yet but worth looking into.

Ann and Cheem - 'feel very bad for what you are going through - I'm just now coming out of a long, dark tunnel of the same types of bladder problems for almost 6 months - all following a nasty UTI.
I had a ton of anxiety about the holidays and then a family tragedy - my anxiety was then roof top level.
Anyway, me, who hates going to western medicine doctor's unless I'm half dead - was going to several - even 3 times in one month.
I had urgency, frequency, pressure, burning, vulvar pinching pain when I walked, etc.
As I had IC in the past (dx'd via a cystoscopy - no big deal at all -relieved my mind - gave me a diagnosis - then I could set about healing) I had an echo in my head that I would go through that whole year of misery I had when I had then and 'waited way too long to go to the urogyne. I wasted that year!!
Anyway - sorry for the long back story but I found that, trying to help my current situation, I did tons of online research and began keeping logs of everything, how many times I peed, what I ate and drank, my mood, constipation (that's very big) sleep quality, exercise, yoga, meditation, PH level of my urine - kept a separate log on this, rx's I took, natural products I took, etc. When the weather got better I was able to go back to my hour long outdoors race walking every day which I have done for many years.
Bottom line - with the addition of estriol cream to fight vaginal dryness, daily teaspoon of baking soda to prevent very acidic urine which leads to burning and inflammation and pressure - at least it does for me, addition of lots of oils to my diet (trying to get rid of the atrophy) I began to have more + signs on my daily evaluations than the -'s I had been posting.
Also, I would put a small cotton pad with some Bee friendly vaginal moisturizer on it into my vulva when I was nervous as I often pinch my vulvar area in body tension. When I'm super anxious I put a little stick on heat pad on my bladder to calm it down. Another thing is to just rest your hand on your poor bladder -it has a calming affect
Now my big issue - is how anxiety affects our bodies and minds.
I now know what my triggers are - this is critical - you have to find out what YOURS are and then be on guard for them, be they anxiety, food, drink, whatever. Know them.
Learn how to relax your body tension.
I do a 4 point mindful meditation when I get really nervous - pause - slow inhale saying BREATHING pause exhale. Saying the one word gives your mind something to hold on to. Just do it over and over to calm yourself and your body tension.
Now when I feel I'm rushing or anxious about "X" - I go right into my 4 points, (thanks to the wonderful Peter Renner, Buddhist monk for posting them online.)
I found out that much of my misery began in my head and then my fear and negativity made my body sick.
'Hope this helps a little....

i feel must like you in this. dr has given me estriol cream for two weeks to help with bladder he says its atrophy. i am still so anxious though, ive been like this for a long time and all they give me is valium as i cant tolerate anti deps for some reason. i have tried breathing exercises. i am always better by later part of day but wake very crazy in my mind, going from dream mode into reality is my problem still not solved.

We must be sisters from another mother!
I am exactly like you - 'was very wary of taking the estriol cream but it works very nicely. I think you will be pleased.
Are you going to take it every night for 2 weeks? I took it every night (just a small amount on a finger tip) and place it right at the entrance to my vagina - even tucked a wee bit just inside.
I took it every night for 10 days now I'm on a 3 times a week regime. Do you have lichen sclerosus, too? Most/many of us here have both of them and are on both Forums.
If I recall LS can also cause urinary symptom but I'm not sure.
Regarding the anxiety. I don't take any meds for it. Its rough going "natural" but I just don't want to become dependent. I meditate (4 point breathing via Peter Renner's free site) and exercise outdoor every day and do yoga....every day.
I try to distract myself with tv, following politics on the radio and computer, movies, prayer, keeping my mouth closed so I don't hyperventilate, hobbies and I'm starting volunteer work next week.
Negative thoughts are my enemies and I have to keep them as far away as possible.
My husband is my secret weapon - very kind and supportive. Has more than his share of health problems, too.

all sounds very familiar. today my bladder was so irritated last night they gave me medicine oxybutinin but im not sure whether to take it as its strong stuff and bad side effects. i am also usually better by end of day. i will continue with estriol just now, dr also suggested mirabegron if needed. i have lichen planus, had it for years, is it related to lichen sckerosis?
