I would go really carefully and if less than 2 weeks I was told to keep above heart level and other than a few gentle hand exercises not to overdo it.  It's important not to encourage swelling by overuse in first 2 weeks. Ali

Just ti be cautious If the stitches r heals and u made a quick call to UR doc then he will recommend what u should do at this time.,u don't want to undo the surgery . There r many muscles and tendons in that area.

    Take care.biggrin

Yeah I did but not for 3 weeks let it heal first .i made the biggest mistake with my first hand by over doing it and scar popped open ,wait till stitches r out and then work on building it up 3 days far to early

I would think it is a bit early, you may put your wound at risk. Once the stitches are out  is soon enough. I have used a ball since then to good results.

I was the same landed up in tears a few times .but to habe the pins and needles gone is worth it .once the stitches r out it gets so much better ,just time ,which I am sure u don't want to hear but so true

Yes it is frustrating and takes time, please don't let your impatience lead you to doing to much too soon as it will make things much worse.

They seem to make out it is common, which it is, and do it as day surgery lulling you into the idea that once surgery done that's it. I know you won't want to hear this but it does take time and how long varies from person to person, afraid you need to have a mindset that gets around the idea of months though with independance in weeks.

NHS Choices website states "Open release surgery

Following open release surgery, your hand may take around six weeks to heal. Depending on the nature of your job, you should be able to return to work two to six weeks after your operation.

      Keyhole surgery

Returning to work after keyhole surgery will depend on the nature of your job and which hand was operated on.

For example, if surgery was on your dominant hand and your work involves carrying out repetitive activities, it is likely that you will need about four weeks to recover from surgery.

If surgery was not on your dominant hand and your job does not involve repetitive activities that might affect your recovery, you may be able to return to work after one or two days."

Depends alot on weight and strength needed then as does not sound repetitive. My sister is a dental nurse and uses her hands alot, she was back on full duties in three weeks.

There is alot of heavy lifting with bottles and pushing a trolley round various sites my route is heavy unfortunately

If you have an Occupational Health Department at work then speak to them, See if you can be temporarily assigned a lighter route. Rules allowing could someone come with you to help?

Ill wait until after i have seen the consultant in 2weeks ive told work that i might have to go on light duties for a while so ill have to wait and see

Good idea, and have written down a description of your job  plus any questions you have for your consultant so can give them if need be, mine welcomed them being written down for him.

Easy to do on computer and print, clear too and can jot down things as think of them them and then nothing will be missed.
