Hi,  I had my op on the 20th and I know exactly the pain you mean.  I described it as a ball pushing out of the back of my buttock at the top.  This is still on going, worse when tired and when in car.  I assume it is muscles and bruising.  See my consultant next week as I could not make initial appt.  On whole I feel I am progressing well, but now I am doing more without sticks I notice how tired my muscles get.  Sleep is still rubbish!  I can not sleep on operated side although people say that is possible it hurts too much for me.  Ups and downs are pretty normal reading the forum.

    Good luck

I had my op on 11May and I get the same feelings as you, I am still using my sticks out side but indoors I can walk unaided as we live in a bungalow so haven't attempted stairs yet, I have been given another 4 weeks off work which will please my personnel manager NOT LOL, as for sleeping thank goodness for my ereader/tablet I have tried to sleep on my unoperated side but it's uncomfortable that is playing up now and I know that hip will need to be replaced within the next 6 to 12 months

Hi Helen. Read your comments about sleeping on your operated side. Not sure how long ago it was you had your thr - April or May? I had mine on 7th April.  It does hurt at first but the pain should get less and less. I also found at first I couldn't just turn/roll over but had to physically lift myself up and place myself back down again, if that makes any sense?   As everyone else has found sleep is very disrupted, but agsin I think it will improve in time. I think I am one of the insomniacs between midnight and 3am! Anyway hope it gets easier for you. sarah

Hi Sarah,  I know exactly what you mean about rolling over.  I did it accidently early on and it hurt so much I think your body remembers and protects you.  I have some nights when I sleep better than others.  I am very outdoorsy and think that sometimes I just do a bit much, which takes it out of you.  Still feel week going up stairs but few weeks ago couldn't walk around the kitchen without sticks so must stop being so impatient!  Waiting to hear what consultant says about riding my horse again?  Think I will be waiting a while yet? And skiing this season??

      Wishing you best, Helen

Hi. I am much the same with driving etc.  i found though that due to lack of sleep have had to cut back my hours at work for a couple of weeks. Finding that taking ibuprofen and paracetemol at bedtime or in the early hours helps and I settle down and sleep.  I have found this forum to be so helpful as the hospital and Doctors don't tell you what might happen afterwards. Hope the pain and discomfort eases off.  We have all just got to be patient with ourselves, although that is difficult sometimes. 😊

hi delkie ... same here - I thought I was sitting on the hip hardware and was sure I could feel it ... my Physical Therapist kept telling me that it was this big muscle but I didn't believe her until she started to massage it ...  we forget sometimes how much damage has been done to muscles and tendons - seems as  the weeks progress other muscle groups are making their presence known ...right now my Back is giving me a hard time ... good Lord - can barely stand up straight - a lot of patience and being gentle with ourselves is required ... and yes, thank God for this group - who else would listen to us or find it even remotely interesting .... good night - warm hug
