    Hi Lucy

Not sure you are in the right section as we are all PMR patients.  Can I say I suffered from depression in 1978 for six months and IT NEVER HAS COME BACK.  I had a time of 3 days of v low feeling but talked to empathetic people and it went away.

Here's an idea.  Do dryuary - dont drink for the month of January.  Drink hot chocolate or cordials or tea.  Also give yourself a break.  It is cold.  It is dark almost all day.  So just take a breath.  Go out for a coffee with a good friend and talk it all over.  Surely all these things and your big move is throwing you off.  Don't let it get to you.

Go and talk a walk.  Exercise and fresh air helps (and I am a real slob).

Hang in there. 2018 is going to be a good year for everyone.

Ummm, maybe this forum would be more relevant to you?  We are a group of mostly older people who have an autoimmune pain disease.

I'm sorry my other reply was deleted.  No idea why, I believe I was being friendly.

You got my reply deleted I think.  What you need to do, if you really want to have this post deleted, is to report the post itself.  Not my reply!

    Hi Lucy,  just 2 observations:

As you are on the PMR discussion forum am I correct to assume you have the condition and are being treated for it?  The reason I ask is that Prednisone is the most effective treatment medication and I certainly found it affected my mood and I would have to fight depressive feelings for a couple of hours each morning. Then I'd settle down and be ok for the rest of the day. (This was never the case before I started using Prednisone.)

As time went on and my Prednisone dose was reducing, these depressive feelings reduced somewhat. I've just recently finished  Prednisone (after 4 1/2 years) and I still like ' to be left alone' for a while each morning . . . .

Next your drinking: there's a kind of  simple way to check yourself here - ask yourself these 2 questions and answer truthfully:  1) Does drinking cause problems in my life?   2) Do normal drinkers do this? If you can answer yes to either of these, you may need some support to stop drinking. AA is both brilliant - and free!!  All they ask is that you turn up with a desire to stop!!  Great support there, you're not alone.

    Good luck.  J

Hi Lucy,  Re. the 2 questions about alcohol use -  as I said if you have a potential problem the first question would be answered 'yes' and the second would be answered 'no'.

In bed with the 'flu and my head wasn't working properly - the rest of me isn't doing so well either!! (and many other parts!) a

Hi Lucy, re. the 2 questions to indicate that a person may need to review their alcohol consumption.

CORRECTION question 1 would be answered 'yes' and question 2 a 'no'.

Sorry about this, I'm in bed with the 'flu and head (or other bits1) not working properly. . . ..
