Diagnosed with H Pylor. Lots of weird symptoms..

I’ve been feeling like crap for the last year or so, and have been struggling to get answers. Regular doctors have dismissed me as either depressed and/or anxious/stressed because nothing was coming back via blood work and CT scans, but I refuse to accept that as my diagnoses as I know my body and know how I feel when I’m feeling those emotions, and this most certainly is not it. I finally saw a GI and got a colonoscopy and endoscopy, and the endoscopy confirmed that I have H. Pylori. My question is, how many symptoms can this bacteria cause? Are some people just more sensitive to it than others and more susceptible to feeling bad because of it? I know a lot of people don’t even know they had it until they get an ulcer because of it, but I feel terrible and can’t seem to find any other reasons as to why. No HIV, blood work always comes back in normal ranges, nothing on CT scans, colonoscopy came back fine. My symptoms are as follows (brace yourself):

Extreme fatigue. Dizziness. Random sweats. Constant noises in stomach with mild pain, especially at night and first thing in the morning. Nausea/loss of appetite/weight loss. Sore throat and white tongue. Constant burping. Extremely itchy skin. My face has always been oily, but it has gotten even more extreme. Digestion issues. Achy muscles. Twitching. The list goes on and on..

I’m at a loss here because I am completely miserable and have basically been diagnosing myself with cancer because I feel so bad, but I’m only 29. Please tell me that someone who has been diagnosed with this bacteria can relate to my symptoms sad

Kim, we are all different so probably suffer differently. I just have had everything you mentioned for awhile before diagnosed with h.pylori except the sore throat and tongue, loss of appetite and weight loss. Even on the 14 day treatment I still had an appetite and didn’t lose any weight. It just made me feel sick, lethargic and caused bloating and chronic urticaria. Since just before ending it, started getting chest pains. Always had that pit in my stomach and now it’s finally dispersing along with the thrush I’ve had down below smh Find eating as clean as possible, raw fruits and vegetables and drinking green tea helps. Sugar does not help. Try honey. I know it might be hard I’m a sugar addict. I’m limiting it as much as I can. Will be adding kefir again to my daily routine. Every morning and night I take a couple of tablespoons.  All the people on this thread have provided helpful insight and have suffered differently. Personally feel our bodies are screaming that there’s an invader in our bodies and it’s trying to get rid of it by reacting wildly. I’ve even cut out drinking and smoking, can say I had a slight problem since I did those on a daily. Lifestyle changes help tremendously.

Thank you for your reply. All of my symptoms have been so overwhelming. I’m on day 2 of my antibiotic treatment, and I feel like complete hell. Kinda wish I would have just done the “all natural” route like I was wanting to but now I have to finish what I started. I like what you said at the end about our bodies knowing we have an invader and it acts out because of it. That is exactly what I’ve tried to tell the dozens of doctors I’ve seen, and their response was always “stress can do a lot to the body.” Well, infections cause the body to be in a constant state of stress, so I guess they were half right!

Exqctly! I almost gave up on it 1week in  then thought well I can at least say I tried it their way.  Sad thing is it might not rid you of it. I don’t see the point in taking all that stuff to find out it didn’t work especially when you feel worse on them. Our world and foods are riddled with toxins that the safest thing is to eat as raw as possible. You are fairly young though so hopefully it will help you and if not you can try the alternative. I’ve got about a month before I take the breath test to see if it’s gone. I realize that a few years back this may have been my issue and took a course naturopaths gave me and yet my doc didn’t see any yeast in my tests I felt like my private area was crawling with bugs. I had stomach pains unexplained and attributed to my bad habits of junk food, alcohol and smoking. It seem to have calmed down and came back this time with a vengeance.

Yeah, I already have a feeling the antibiotics aren’t gonna work for me. They only put me on a ten day course, and I’m allergic to amoxicillin which is most commonly used to treat this, so I doubt what they were able to give me is gonna be aggressive enough with one go around, and I’m definitely gonna refuse a second round. I’ve already been eating really clean and I don’t drink or smoke. I’m pretty sure I’ve had this infection for a longgggg time. My weight has fluctuated a lot throughout my life, as I’ve gone through phases where I’m hungry no matter how much I eat (so I gain), and phases where I can barely even look at food without feel nauseous (so I lose). It seems like every six months or so I’ve gotten a new “symptom” and really does feel like my body has been screaming “SOMETHING IS WRONG. PAY ATTENTION TO ME!!” this entire time. I think everything I’m experiencing is either due to the stress my body has been under due to having the infection or the lack of vitamins/minerals I’ve been able to absorb. Ugh, I would give anything to have my health. People who don’t have issues really need to count their blessings!

Wholeheartedly agree with you on all points. Feel I’ve had it for a very long time as well, that fluctuation of weight and appetite either being suppressed or constantly hungry has plagued me for the last 2 years. I contributed it to getting older, but the infection could have flared up and maybe we did things that helped it at times and other times not so much. I’ve started taking oil of oregano again to help in any way. Doctors will not tell you to eat clean or try alternative methods because they are taught to prescribe medication only and half the time the medication has caused some of the destruction so it’s a cycle that they keep getting paid to prescribe more and we go back for something else. They claim to care about patients, but don’t teach preventative measures. I was prescribed  lansoprazole metronizodale and tetracycline. It seems to have helped. Hope they switch you to something else since that won’t help if your allergic. They are suppose to ask. Even the pharmacist should have. Hope you get something to help you soon. It’s been almost a week for me since I ended and I’m feeling better.

Do you remember if there was a turning point in your antibiotic when you started to feel better? Or did you feel bad the entire time and start feeling better once you were done? Today is day 5 out of 10 for me and I still feel horrible. Really loose stools, and stomach pains, not sleeping, no improvement with any of my other symptoms. I’m really considering stopping the treatment because I feel so bad and don’t understand how my body is possibly absorbing any of the medicine if I’m having such loose stools. I’m gonna talk to the doctor about it today but I think if I don’t see some sort of improvement in the next couple days, then I’m gonna take things in to my own hands. I can’t afford to lose any more weight and I can’t just have diarrhea for the rest of my life sad

I have been suffering for three months from pain in my right and left ribs ( more so on the right ) a long with nausea, loss of appetite, burping a ton, burning feeling in through a long with weird taste, itchy skin, pains in stomach areas and weight loss! I just had a baby four months ago and they said it was my gall bladder so I had surgery and got it removed but have gotten worse with these symptoms! I’m thinking H Pylori...... I just feel horrible :-( so I’m going to ask my doctor to test me for it since all other test such as bloods, CT Scan, two ultrasounds and x rays have all come back normal! I literally told my husband I’m 30 years old and dying a slow death after having my baby

First off, congrats on your baby! Secondly, I’m sorry that you are suffering with similar sad I swear I say the same thing to my boyfriend all the time, that I’m dying a slow death. I hope you can get a diagnoses soon. Make sure you do either a breath test or just get an endoscopy. I’ve heard about lots of false negatives with blood tests. My sister had her gallbladder removed and now has some stomach issues as well, so maybe you could ask about that too. Good luck and hang in there!

      Hey Mike,

I’m sorry that you are struggling and hope you were able to find some form of relief to know that you aren’t alone in what you’ve been feeling. As said above, I think our bodies know that there’s an invader and is literally doing everything it can to scream for help. H Pylori can also cause malabsorption which in itself can cause a wide array of symptoms, pretty much anything really. Make sure that if you do have it, you clean up your diet if you haven’t already. Whether you decide to do antibiotics or the natural route, both will need assistance through a healthy diet. I only lasted 7 of 10 days on the antibiotics, but my doctor thinks that might be enough and I get retested this coming Monday. I have been using Mastic Gum, Monolaurin, and Manuka Honey since stopping antibiotics. I’m far from 100% but am starting to feel better. It’s gonna be a long process to recover I’m sure. Good luck and let me know how you make out! Enjoy the nap that comes with the endoscopy smile

      Hi Kim

can I ask if you still have the white tongue

and does it upset your sleep

I have always been a good sleeper

      but this has crippled me

from your earlier post you were like me and got tested for everything

I do, but I am not sure if it is related to H Pylori or not. I am having sleep issues due to other reasons and believe it may be caused from that. Depending on how white it actually is, you may have a Candida infection. I got tested for that and was negative. Mine is a pretty mild white coat. I know that stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, and sleep apnea can all cause it (among other things I’m sure). I’m thinking I may have sleep apnea. I’m very petite but have an abnormally small jaw and have woken up to myself snoring or with my mouth open. My throat is also beyond dry in the mornings. Just another thing to add to my list to get tested for! If it is in fact caused by H Pylori, my best guess is that it’s from a vitamin or mineral deficiency of some sort and will take time to balance back out.

      Hi Mike,

I’m so sorry you’re suffering and know what it feels like to be at your wits end. A few things to keep in mind:

If you have H Pylori, you will for sure have gastritis (inflammation of the stomach). However, a negative biopsy of your stomach may not necessarily be correct. I would suggest getting both a stool and breath test as well if possible. If any of these come back positive, you have it.

Stress is a horrible thing that can cause a lot of horrible symptoms. If you are struggling with sleep, your stress hormones get released throughout the night and could be causing the white coat on your tongue. I have pelvic floor dysfunction, so I’m up every hour or less to go pee. I start physical therapy next month and pray to God that this will finally get me some relief and get me the sleep I need. I’ve noticed that my tongue is even whiter after nights that my sleep struggled even more than usual, and that it’s not very white at all on nights that I get more sleep. So, they definitely go hand in hand for me.

Your symptoms most definitely sound like H Pylori, but there are other bacteria and parasites that can cause a lot of the same things. You may wanna consider getting a colonoscopy as well, but for SURE a stool test. Hang in there, and try your best to get some sleep and not stress. I know it’s easier said than done, trust me!

P.S.-A lot of people, myself included, have found mastic gum to be very helpful with calming the stomach, no matter what the root issue is. Maybe you could try some of that while you wait. And, of course, probiotics! I find that getting them through food has been more beneficial to me than supplements. Kefir is great and so is coconut milk yogurt. Yakult probiotic drinks are awesome as well!!

      Hi Kim

      I cant thank you enough

Where can you get mastic gum

Take today fir example i was unable to eat

Last year i would eat a horse

    • Posted

No problem Mike! I got my Mastic Gum on Amazon, but I’m pretty sure Vitamin Shoppe has some. I could eat a horse at one point too, and whats crazy is being overly hungry tends to be the first initial symptom (maybe because our bodies are malnourished without a bunch of food?). I remember going to the doctor and telling them that I was always hungry no matter how much I ate, and they blamed stress. Then I went in saying the polar opposite a couple years later, and they blamed stress again lol. It feels like I went from being always hungry to having no appetite/constantly stick and loosing weight in the blink of an eye. Def never had a problem with feeling nauseous until this last couple years. It’s been such a long road for me and I am so ready to feel good again. Let me know how you make out after your endoscopy!
