Diagnosed with sinusitis, fluid in ear and infected dental carries!

Hi! everyone.

On April 28th, I finally went to see an ENT. He suspected that I may have chronic sinusitis. Ordered a CT scan to be sure. The following day I felt so weak and sick, I had to go to the hospital. They performed a blood test, urine test and CT scan of my sinuses. The doctor said he saw fluid in my ear, infected dental carries and I have sinusitis. I was prescribed five different medications (augmentin, flonase, prednisone, loratadine and zofran). I finished the antibiotics on Sunday, yet I still feel really bad. The facial pain and weakness is not going away. I'm at a loss at what to do. I can't see a dentist in such a weakened state. I don't think I could tolerate anything being done to my teeth until I get my strength back.

Infected sinuses, teeth and ears! What a nightmare! Does anyone out there have problems like this? Don't know what to do. So tired of feeling so very sick.

      Hi,

I do not know if I could help you. I suffer from sinusitis for few years.

Here is what helps me. Note, I am not cured.

      1. Use saline solution to flush your nassal passage. I put one drop of iodine sometimes.

      2. Build up your immune system.

      A. Take contrasting showers (hot/cold) every

morning. Walk bare foot. Lower your termostat temp.

      B. Exercise

      C. Consider yoga, meditation, hot sauna.

      3. Get a moisturizer and maintain about 35% humidity in your bedroom

      4. Eat healthy. Remove sugar, less red meat.

      5. Sleep a lot

      6. Drink water.

I had an assessed tooth which cause a sinus infection I took the antibiotics and then got the tooth pulled 3 months ago. I still have the pressure in the head and the swelling in my face. I started getting dizzy spells and fluid coming out of my ears after it got pulled. I don't know what's going on and the doctors here won't really look into it. The do a quick check and send me home never any tests or anything.

I suffered with sinus issues for 20 years after having two dental implants following losing them playing rugby, around 3 months ago I needed these replaced and the dentist recommended that the top for needed to come out, I opted for a temporary denture at the time with the option to have new implants at a later date, since three months i have not suffered a runny nose, sinus problems or headaches, your top 4 front teeth seem to have a lot to answer for

Hi Kim, like Sibusisu and many people on this site I was eventually diagnosed with CFS/ME/Fibromyalgia by a rheumatologist. My sinus pain, migraine, pain through my tooth and down my neck has continued for 3 long years and I have tried everything. Zolmitriptan will lessen the pain but I seem to be forever on antibiotics. Also on my bad flare ups I get post nasal drip and end up coughing up thick brown lumps of disgusting mucous - does anyone else get this?

I have had sinus problems for many years, sometimes really bad (and sometimes triggers migranes).  Unfortunately doctors have a habit of prescribing antibioticts for the condition, these don't work unless there is actually an infection in your sinuses.  Many times the doctors gave me more antibiotics but to no avail.  I stopped going to see the doctor as it was not helping.  I found that menthol helps and a decongestant (sudafed with no paracetamol - no point in getting the one with paracetamol as paracetamol didn't even touch it).  Was interested to read that someone recommended walking barefoot as I have always done that (don't even own a pair of slippers) and don't really think that it makes a difference.  Hope you feel better soon.

So I have been having sinus headaches and earaches for a while and i asimply thought it was because of the wisdom teeth i had coming out from my sinuses. On top of that i havea very small jaw. 4 teach from the upper and bottom had to be extracted. THe only ones of those 8 that i never got extracted were the upper wisdom because they were coming from my sinuses and had not yet errupted. So fastforward years later all of a sudden these teeth are errupting fatser than normal. SO assumed that my isnus headaches and earches were from the teeth errupting. I wake up one day only to find that when i drink water or any liquid it comes up through my nose. I went to my dentist to see what was going on and he took x rays and told me that yes the teeth must come out but that they were not reason form this "hole" in my sinues. So decided to go to my doctor and he told me that most liekly it is a sinus infection and he now has me on nasones antibiotic and claratin D. THe problem is that i cannot speak i sound like a cartoon. But it does seem like the opening in my sinues is closing. My doctor said that if the prescribed medicnines did not help he was going to preform a CT scan. I only hope that the medicines that he prescribed help me. Has anyone ealse suffered from this opening in the sinuses due to a sinus infection?

Hey, I just read your post. Antibiotics alone aren't going to help.  You need to see a dentist. I've been having migraine headaches, sinus inflammation, and neck pain; it turns out my wisdom teeth had to be removed because they were impacted. You really should see a dentist because you probably need to get something pulled. ALWAYS, if you experience migraines, you need to see an ear doctor, dentist, AND a general  practitioner or ENT as you did.

    Hi Kim

I am in kind of the same boat. Mine has been going on for 2 years!. I have been to 4 ENT, dentists, and GP's. Constand sinus infection, fluid in ear, pain on same side of head(not headache) this is a pain. Problem, I am living on antibiotics and steroids, BUT there is no reason for it and there is really nothing wrong?. Went to Dr yesterday cause I woke up with ear pain. My GP told me not to wait to go to ENT, so I went immediately. No fluid YET! so I am basically a nut job or hypocondriac!.I did get more Augmentin, just in case???  I am very frustrated, and don't know where to turn. Is this anything like you?

I am in the same boat! Would someone throw me a life preserver. I feel so sick. My mucus is clear and as thick as thieves! All because I tried to save my canine#11 with three root canals. Stupid me right. But the endocrinologist is too blame in my opinion. But I'm not here for blame games, I'm just here cause I'm not living right now I'm just existing I guess. GP and I haven't put one and one together until my MRI just last Wednesday. I've been feeling sick since December 1st. I actually thought I had cancer! Went through a battery of tests that my doctor said there are no more for me to test you with. That's when I went to a cancer specialist. And here it's been my damned sinus that's been torturous the whole time. GP didn't know about the tooth issues and silly me didn't really tell him about the canine tooth extraction that had to happen cause it was infected, and treated with anti-biotics and thought that was the end of it. Well now I have headaches, neck pains, lymph node pain, and I'm in a hell of a way right now! Doc just gave me 500 mgs of amoxicillin and it's helping but I know it's not gonna do the job that I need. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    1.  A dentist won't extract or drill until infection is gone to prevent going systemic.

    2.  For a sinus infection that severe, minimum 21 days antibiotics; augmentin may not be strong enough

    3.  prednisone is nice to reduce inflamation but can cause other issues

    4. Don't let the doctors jerk you around.  Make sure they take you seriously!
