Diagnosed with sinusitis, fluid in ear and infected dental carries!

Hi! everyone.

On April 28th, I finally went to see an ENT. He suspected that I may have chronic sinusitis. Ordered a CT scan to be sure. The following day I felt so weak and sick, I had to go to the hospital. They performed a blood test, urine test and CT scan of my sinuses. The doctor said he saw fluid in my ear, infected dental carries and I have sinusitis. I was prescribed five different medications (augmentin, flonase, prednisone, loratadine and zofran). I finished the antibiotics on Sunday, yet I still feel really bad. The facial pain and weakness is not going away. I'm at a loss at what to do. I can't see a dentist in such a weakened state. I don't think I could tolerate anything being done to my teeth until I get my strength back.

Infected sinuses, teeth and ears! What a nightmare! Does anyone out there have problems like this? Don't know what to do. So tired of feeling so very sick.

You are lucky in a way you got a diagnosis!

I have similar symptoms. Every day since July 2015, (yes 2015), aching front ears, jaws, blocked nose (high up), the choking sensation, headaches, teeth and gum aches especially at night. Got my sinuses scanned, all clear!! I have no diagnosis so far and been waiting for the specialist to come back since April.

Since then ive been stuffed up on amitripyline which ive stopped taking as A) doesnt work and B0 makes me well groggy during the day.

    Hope you feel well soon.

It sounds like a casebook text case of Chronic Sinusitis, possibly caused not by virus or by bacteria but rather by a fungal infection. I would talk to Dr and see what he can prescribe. May cases last years and too many doctors end up prescribing antibiotics over and over ...the antibiotics will kill off the bacteria but they will also kill off the good beneficial bacteria,  leaving you vulnerable to an overgrowth of fungus...which causes the inflammation, pressure, stuffiness and the reffered dental pain. It can be fixed as easy as in a few days with proper antifungal treatment. Up to 97% of folks suffering with Chronic Sinusitis were found to be carrying fungus in a Mayo Clinic study. Your doctor needs to be told that fact...if they do not listen, get a new doctor. If this was just a case of acute Sinusitis, it would have resloved itself either naturally or most times with the 1st round of antibiotics. Your case sounds like it is fungal in origin.

PS...no scan will detect this. Blood work or just listening to the patient and his/her symptoms is the method to detect it.

    Hi there

I'm not sure if you are still reading these post, i havnt checked the latest butI hope you have gotten better. Have you or anyone here ever had a steroid shot? I got my very first sinusitis attack 2 weeks ago with all the bad symptoms including everything from ear aches, phlem, migraine, all the headaches one can get, stuffy nose. My doctor gave me a steroid shot along with Zepac antibiotics that are only 5 days, and a small dose if prednisone which I only took for 2 days (didn't like side effects ), and put me on Zyrtec. I felt relief, I went in at about 3pm for the shot and by 6pm I could breath. Must have been the steroid shot.

Yes, it probably was the steroid shot. It takes away the inflammation which causes the blockage. You really should have finished the prenisone but if you are feeling better...great! Make sure you finish the Z-pac even if you feel better. A shot of steroids is quite strong and not the usual way to go but your doctor must have thought it was called for in your case.

Thank you for your info on steroid shot. I didn't think I was going to get one and also thought it was too much but boy did it help me breath within hours, don't know the side effects and not sure if I want to know now that I'm ok, I just take zyrtec for now and saline spray here and there. Yesterday after being outside for a while I started to get that headache puffy feeling , I took zyrtec and it helped.

I have been having tension headaches for a few years but never thought anything of it. I would take some ibuprofen and it would go away. For the past few months I have been having these reoccurring things such as slight shooting pain on the top left side of my head along with a liquid dripping sensation up there, constant earache in my right ear, ringing in my left ear, and worst of all constant pressure in my head and neck. First I went to a clinic and they said I had fluid in my ear and they prescribed me Zyrtec and Saline nasal drops. The symptoms went away but now they're back and even worse. They told me I don't have an ear infection but my ear constantly hurts. The other night the pressure in my head was so bad I went to the ER. I thought I might have a tumor or an aynurism. They gave me a CT scan and it came back negative. They told me to take some Ibuprofen and sent me home. I don't know what else to do. My head pressure is so bad it feels like it's gonna explode. I can't sleep and I'm scared. Somebody please help me.

I have had this same sinus problem for 3 years.  I got rid of it once when I was perscribed amoxicilin/K-clav.... but it eventually came back,  I tried it again but the second time didn't clear it.  I believe due to diet... yeast/gluten and maybe alcohol.  After a year of it coming back, I'm now experiencing more pressure and pain and headcold/flu/hangover type feelings... I am going to try Serrapeptase and will get back with my results if it works.

      Hi ,

my name is Chris and i'm fairly much in the same situation as yourselves, sinus, infection , Ct scan of sinus, im told that these are clear now, Ive just finsihed 2nd antibiotic, little improvement , Ive facial pain, pain in my teeth, sometimes pains in back of my head and neck which I feel are coming from pressure in my forehead and cheek areas, but ive prescribed so many different things and dont see many improvements. In truth Im comforted by hearing from other people who actually understand how debilitating this.

      best regards Chris
