diarrhea almost every day for 3 years?

For the past 3 years I have been having some problems with my stomach. I have been having diarrhea every day multiple times to every other day. It is mainly triggered if I eat anything or do something simple like taking a walk or going outside. A lot of times when I eat, my stomach will get a lot of pain and I will have diarrhea in the middle of eating or shortly after. When it first started, it only happened occasionally, but lately, I have been having diarrhea several times a day. It might sound strange, but I noticed when the weather is bad outside, like cold or rainy, it will make my symptoms worse. Rarely, I won't have diarrhea for 1-2 days and I consider it a miracle. It really is stressful and sad since if I go anywhere, I have to immediately search for the nearest bathroom to feel safe. I can't go out to eat somewhere since I will always have diarrhea and it's embarrasing to always leave every time during the meal. Sometimes I can't barely even eat a few bites of food at home before I have to go to the bathroom.

I heard it's not normal to have diarrhea so much, so it really worries me. I love walking outside and even jogging, but I'm terrified do those things because I know something can go wrong with my stomach. I've been taking a medicine called metamucil. It does help a little, but not nearly as much as I need it too. I talked to my doctor about my problem and he recommended I get a Endoscopy, so I've been waiting a while for the hospital to respond. It is driving me crazy having to wait so long since I wish this problem could get fixed and I could have a clear diagnoses of what's wrong with me. I am really scared and worried. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or opinions to what could be wrong with me since I've been trying to figure it out for years. I have been wondering if I could have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) since a lot of my symptoms sound similar, but I'm not sure. Also I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of Endoscopy I would need. Do you think I would need a Colonoscope   inserted through the anus to examine the colon (bowel) or a Gastroscope, inserted down the throat to the oesophagus to examine the stomach. I just really want to know if the camera will be going through my mouth or anus and is the problem could be with my colon, bowls, stomach, or digestion.

      Hey Jeff,

I would also love to hear how everyone is doing smile As for me, it's been the same as before. I'm just trying to deal and live with the problem. The doctor told me to take metamucil 2-3 times a day. It's a powder you put in a drink. But I mean, I just don't honestly know how she can expect anyone to do that 2-3 times a day for the rest of their life. I was taking it 2 times a day for a while and it does help a bit, but it's just tedious, so I haven't been taking it in a while. I have been taking norit's (pill that helps with diarrhea) and lucky it does help a bit. But it really sucks that there is no medicine for IBS or anything that can really help. There are only things that make it slightly less, but nothing that really helps. I just wish I could be normal for a while. There isn't one day where I don't have diarrhea or where I'm constantly scanning for bathrooms every where I go. It does suck a lot, but there's nothing else I can do. I am happy to know 100% that it is IBS and I did everything to help it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find Bentonite Clay capsules or Bentonite Clay here in the Netherlands. I would've loved to try it and see if it worked. So if anyone else has tried it, let me know smile

I think you should do a full blood test for "Celiac Disease".

Also do tests for milk/dairy intolerance or allergy.

Also, you may consider getting some Probiotics capsules/tablets. They have helped some people.

      Take care.

if you ask a GOOD blood tests laboratory, they will tell you what the blood tests are for Celiac Disease, as well as for dairy/milk allergy or intollerance. I think you should do them.

Are you kidding ? Didn I think in 5 years ? IBS has nothing with intolerance. Celiac Disease as totaly another thing, it is a serious illness thank god I dont have it. If you have celieac, your body will respond even small amounts of gluten. My last doctor got angry with me and told me to stop testing  and said me you have no allegry but simple IBS. When you have diearha, drinking milk increases it, this is no allergy.

    Hello tigerbolt,

I am late in the game for this advice but perhaps I'll explain anyway. My mother, for many years was diagnosed with IBS with horrible, horrible, experiences. She would have 10-15 bowel movements (diarrhea) every day. Sometimes she wouldn't make it to the bathroom. She had to wear diapers to keep herself from embarrassment. She always kept clean clothes with her just in case. She experienced cramping, pain, and uncomfortable episodes every day. She is in her 70's. Anyhow I started taking her to the doctor and became more involved with her IBS. After a few trips to the ER, I became very stern with the doctors and that they NEED to take care of my mom and stop giving her band aids to cover up the problem. So she was finally advised to see a specialist. At our appointment I explained the horror my mom dealt with every day! He conducted a colonoscopy and the results were that she had extreme inflammation. He had advised her to take Budesonide, and let me tell you, her symptoms cleared up within weeks. NO more IBS, after taking Budesonide for a couple months, she no longer takes anything now and lives a normal life. After years of dealing with her issues, I cannot believe it took a simple medicine to cure her from her ailments. I don't know if this would be helpful to you, but it's worth a try. It was like a miracle. Good luck to you, I hope you are doing better.

Hi Tigerbolt... I just had my colonscopy, today... They found a polyp, removed for biopsy... Afterwards, I had a gush of yellowish diaherra.. .Bile? maybe...

Brief history... My diaherra was sometimes constant... Bowel mvt, 6-10x a day... my butt was sore, from wiping... pain in my tummy, at times... Back in the early 90's, I was always a size 8.. maybe 10... I took Zyprexa, for mental health issues... I gained up to size 14, 1x... thinking I was pregnant, no... It was from my meds.. .I stop taking it... It looked like my tummy had a tight basket ball in it... Thinking I was allergic to milk... people suggested drink skim milk, (tolerable) I can eat cheese, yogurt, etc.. not 2% or whole milk....

still diaherra... colors black to mustard...

2010, They found a gallstone and I drank vodka for 3-4 yrs, 2-3x a week or more.... I been sober for 8 mos, now... still diaherra

Today, Colon is fine.. Now I am bit worried abt my liver, because after my colonscopy, I totally messed up the blanket, bed pad, and gown w/ mustard color diaherra...  Please get the colonscopy... Also, check your liver... too...

I forgot to mention.. They said it could be IBS... from stress, and I would drink to help w/ stress.. Its like adding insult to injury..... Do the tests.... and have them check for wheat allergy or any allergy, thyroid.. and your liver, too... smile

Please don't ever be afraid of an endoscopy as it is nothing.  I have had it done a couple of times and I am the world's most nervous patient.  One of my prior doctors used to call the medication you get to relax you "milk of amnesia."  You don't feel or know a thing about what is going on even though, theoretically, you are awake and you remember absolutely nothing when you wake up.  Good luck!

Your story could be mine.  I've had a colonoscopy (which was a nightmare because I was awake through the whole thing) and it turned out ok. I'm so depressed I'm about ready to drive off a Clift.  I am 64 years old and I had stomach problems my whole life but this diarrhea is really getting me down. I hope you find a solution.

    Hi,

I have something very similar, maybe you could ask your Dr for some advice?

Firstly I had cdiff, which has left me with chronic diarrhoea (5-7 bouts daily) my Dr prescribed me with codine phosphate and this helped to solidify my stools and even slightly constipate me. It also helped with the pain.

This has been the only thing I can recommend from my experience. I would also urge your Dr to refer you to gastro for further investigations.

I truly understand what you're going through. Keep going though x

Hi, I've been struggling with the same problems. Haven't had a solid bowel movement in about 6 years. Was taking gastro stop tablets every time I worked so I could get through my shift without an accident. sad January 2015 I developed a sharp pain and feeling of pressure under my right ribs (at the front). Since December '15 though things have taken a turn for the worse. I've been in total agony at times but each day I'm always in some sort of pain. I also have constant nausea, exhaustion, and also occasional dizziness. It's driving me nuts! I just had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy on Friday (was asleep for the whole thing). I've also had a CT scan. Don't get to see the gastroentorologist until the end of May for my results though. Sick of all the waiting! It took months to get in to see the gastro and then months again to have the procedures. I've had to give up working because of what I'm going through. Just hope they have some answers for me! Don't know what I'm going to do if they don't.

I forgot to mention that the pain I've been having since December is in my abdomen...mainly right hand side but can be all over. I still also have the pain under my ribs.

Blockage. I just passed my Thursday. Almost killed me. And I did every test for a blockage and no test showed nothing. But I know what I passed. It was.a piece of undigested food.
