These symptoms are severe restless leg syndrome all throughout the day, being jittery, uneasiness, and being overall restless. Valium withdrawn as patent expires

    The Independent · January 30, 2002

by Steve Connor · Science Editor

Valium, brand name of one of the world's best known tranquillisers, will no longer be sold in the UK. Its maker, Roche, took the decision after the expiry of the patent.

Although Roche has stopped marketing Valium, other firms will continue to sell their own versions of the drug under the generic name of diazepam.

Valium was introduced in 1963 and its enormous success catapulted Roche into the pharmaceutical super-league, where the Swiss-based company remains one of the world's key players. The drug belongs to the family of benzodiazepines which are widely prescribed for the treatment of anxiety and sleep disorders, and as muscle relaxants and anti-convulsants.

In the 1960s, millions of people took Valium to relieve stress and to overcome insomnia, although there was a controversy over claims that the drug could lead to dependency in some pateints.

Roche said its principal role was developing new medicines and it was not unusual for a firm to discontinue a medicine after the patent had expired. There were many other tranquillisers available, it said.

It is fair to say we all have different experience folks, we can all associate with each other symptoms, but only if we have had them too.

I think argue when we need to support each other is not good, and its probably the anxiety / depression. A balanced view that is legal and moral is always the best. Restep need support not to be in the middle of another argument people.

    Come on folks lets help

1 kn0w!!! its sudenly working again! its off and on, I want to take it to be repaired asap - but I need diazepam to go it because I am recovering agorophobic and have awful social anxiety. Thats why diazepam has helped me so much..I only use it when I need to socialise in situation that intimidate and I can go weeks without taking it. Anywyas it seems we are all different. I just remember my nan took diazepam in the 70's and had no problem coming off. However the first grand mal seizure I ever witnessed was someone on alchohol withdrawel - he had not drunk that much, it turns out due to a problem with his digestion he had not been getting any b12 for years and thats what triggered it.

    Hey there,

I did not mean to sound unconpassionate to your experience, I think what probably has happaned is you dont take it every day, and with Valium that's a game changer.  So totally understand how it did not effect you as it did me.  I was taking it almost every day and doc put me on 15mg, took away my panic, aggraphobia all those things and was great, only when i thought ill come off did all this happen to me so I researched and went to drug detox and learnt that when your dependant as i was I needed to come of slowly.  Tell you what the hallucinations i had in hospital were like the worst thing ive ever exerienced, like a dream or nightmare you can't really explain but I was IN the simpsons, audio visual hearing voices talking right at me out of a radio.  One Doc at the hospital said I actually started to believe that possesion could be possilble and he was a man of science, I was acting like a little girl they angry and i felt like i could see right through those nurses etc.  I could also at time see myself from above.  Very Very Scary.  BUT I do not want you to be scared, not only are we different but you are obviosly not addicted if you only take them here and there, you have had no unpleasant reactions believe me if you were you could not go a day with out feeling horrid so you my friend are using them wisely, even though doctors put me on them for years it was up to me in the end to research what i was taking and perhaps i could have been like you. I wish I had now. I really did not mean to sound nasty we all have so much info that can help each other so I appreciate your story.  Best wishes to you and I think you are going about things the right way, taken as needed and I understand you do need them.  Nicola
