Diane, I understand exactly where your coming from, I have hd the excact same withdrawals from Valium and other Benzo's, Unfortunatly it is a pysical withdrawal as well as mental but the physical part first is the hardest, you feel like your dieing inside and unfortunatly your husband wont understand as he has not been thru it.  Now I hope you did not come off this drug cold Turkey!  It explains the way you feel, I dont mean too scare you but you can end up having seziures and this can happen weeks, months afer you stop.  It hapened to me, I decided the same although i was a little worse than you I was also on Xanax and probably taking a little more.  After  months of not taking anything I ended up in hospital after having a small seziure, the doctors did not no what it was even though I told them I'd come off the meds. W was feeling horrible and actually halucinating at this stage, to bizzare to even explain, it haunts me too this day. They were not overly understanding, the doctors that is,not the nurses they new exactly and wanted to give me medication to help but Doc's would not let them.  They kept me in their care overnight as my mother had insisted and they told her to go home and come back tomorrow, as she arrived home about half hour, she received a call from the hospital saying I had just had another 10 minute seziure, in fact it was not stopping so they had to knock me out completly.  They also transported me to another hospital with better faciities for brain scans etc.

So I wake up to a docor saying my name, I new who I was but as they have to they bombared me with questions, who's the prime minister, where are you, date of birth etc.  I did not no where I was or what had happened.  I had a tube down my throat and (not very nice subject) a cathida which was all very painful.  Apparantly i'd been knocked out for 5 days and in another hospital.  I could hardly talk and could no walk.  Slowly things got better they sent round pyhsical rehab to get me walking but i was full of tubs and needles attached to me and very wobbly.  After a few days I was able to have a shower, they did ECG's EEG's everything, thankgod there was no permanent damage.

I only started taking these medications because I trusted my doctor, now they no the addictive properties and side effects they want to just cut you off, I dont want to e on them but I was so bad I would have rather died than go thru it again, the doctor said it could take up to 2-3 years before I felt kind of normal again.  So I started a slow reduction and started lots of natural therapies.  On a positive note, I dont no where you live, Imin Australia but we have only a few detox clinics yu book in, it's free and they asses you and monitor you and bring you down on a regiem depending how bad 7-14 days, now that addressed the cutting down but when you leave you have only been off the Valium they give you for 48 hours so it is likley to still have withdrawals, not as bad.  Otherwise I suggest you find a doctor who specialises in Benzodiazepam withdrawal as most normal GP's really dont understand.  Specialits can tapper you down over months even a year which makes the whole process a lot easier to handel.  Then Meditation, eating well, excersise, I have tried everything to help me and get my body & mind back to actually FEELING.  Horrible Horrible drugs as they attack the Central nervous system.  Also if you decide to get clinical help they can help your husband to understand what is actually happening.  Which is a big plus.  As I said I was on alot more than you, so you wont be as bad but want you to be aware.  I hope I havent scarred you too much, every body is different.  All the best, my thoughts are with you.  Feel free to contact or reply to me at any time.  Your not alone.
