Did anyone come out from anxiety without medication?

Hi! I suffer from anxiety for the last 3,5 months and trying to cope with it without medication. I tried Sertraline but got allergic reaction to it and had to stop. I am seeing counsellor, doing CBT, meditation and educate myself. It is MUCH better than it was at the start but I am not there yet. Have my worse days from time to time. But I don't want to take meds, I want to combat anxiety consciously so I can proper come out of it. Anyone who is combating anxiety without medications? Thanks.

I did. I had really bad anxiety last year after my son was born. It eventually went away though. You could try something herbal. I got these pills called "kalms" they are natural and just having them near by helped me. I only took them a few times on bad days

      Thanks for reply Backtome!

I am glad to hear you managed to overcome anxiety and that you did so without meds - that gives hope!!! I also use Kalms smile I take them as needed. Used to rely on xanax from time to time but I decided to stop taking it due to it's addictive effect when used long term. Congrats that you managed to get anxiety under control! And how do you feel now? Does it come back sometimes or do you have it underl control?

I still get a little anxious but it's defo under control. I stopped googling everything which helped a lot. And I unfollowed a lot of things on social media. You know those things that come up on news feeds on Facebook like "breaking news step dad tortured 3week old" and stuff like that would really upset me so all those things that randomly pop up I unfollowed them. And I started having acupuncture recently which is really calming and it helps. I'm having 6sessions in total and lots of my aches and pains and other health worries are getting better. I try to eat healthy, stay hydrated, take supplements and exercise daily. And I try to distract myself by staying busy, making sure I get enough sleep which is really important. I'm also thinking of joining yoga or Pilates and I go swimming sometimes. Hope this helps ?

Delighted all those things are working for you! We have very similar approach in our journey out! And I was also thinking about acupuncture... how many more sessions you are planning on having? I tried yoga but only once I because of anxiety I got myself worried I will die or have a heart attack at a time (at that stage I thought too fast pulse will kill me!). So that was a no go for me then but I am hoping to try it again some time soon. I also take supplements and drink a lot and more than ever I take care of my sleeping time - cruical! Plus I do counselling now as I have to deal with miscrriage trauma in order to try for a baby again... so glad to hear that you are managing anxiety without meds. Best of luck and keeping my fingers crossed for you! X

6 acupuncture sessions all together. I just had my fourth and i feel it's helping me. smile I worry about my heart rate speeding up too but it is a normal response to exercise. Even walking up stairs can speed up heart rate so try not to worry smile sorry to hear about your miscarriage. That is traumatic and can defo cause anxiety or make it worse. I hope you feel better soon x

Thank you! Glad to heae acupuncture is helpimg you! I read a bit about it and seems it works for some and doesn't for the othets so you are lucky smile I made an appointment for first session for next week myself, hopefully it will go well! I am hoping it will help me get even better, as I kind of feel like I did almost everything at this stage and neef something new on the stage.. It's amazing as I thought that I got anxiety since the miscarriage but looking back seems like I have always been more anxious than average person and the tough few months just made my anxiety to come out eventually, after many years. So it will be a case of working on it for a while I'd say esp that it has been brewing for years... pity we cannot foresee it, and do something about it before it hits us so hard...

Hi, I'm combating anxiety with the help of medication, but i hope i can still help you. You mentioned you're doing CBT which is great! Get that routine going and plan out your day, adding in all the hobbies and things you love. I find medication does very little and the biggest impact comes from lifestyle changes and proving to yourself that you can handle life's obstacles.

I was on mirtazapine (another anti depressant) for 2 years and it never helped my anxiety. Maybe in a minor way. The big change comes from the therapy because a pill only masks symptoms and doesn't solve them, so when the meds wear off, you're back where you started. You've had anxiety for 3.5 months so have that peace of mind that you can get back to that calm place you was prior to that. Hope you feel better soon smile

Helli there! Thanks for response, I appreciate the effort! I totally agree with you, I think it's a mindset/lifestyle change more than anything else. I am trying to do anthing I can to get out of anxiety claws and it is much better since I did CBT and meditation... although I neglected meditation recently and it wasn't a good idea as I had a bit of a set back. So lesson learned stick to your routine! 😉

So do you think in your case it is the changes you made that have helped rather the medication?

Hey! Yes i do truly think the lifestyle change and the positive mindset is what ultimately treats it. I think if you have mild anxiety, medication can take the edge off a little? But i have it very severe so I've honestly never noticed much of a difference. So before i started CBT i felt lost and didn't even leave my house. Now I'm going gym and everything! Although i still struggle sometimes, at least i can say I'm doing things now smile

You sound like you're doing really well so I'd say just try and keep that motivation there for your routine and meditation. Just lay out some time each day and tell yourself you have to do it. I also neglect stuff at times, its hard to stick to schedules when you have daily tasks to sort out. All the best, you sound on the right track! smile

Thanks a mill smile Great to hear how you can do things now and getting your life back! It is so encouraging and it's always great to hear those stories!!! You're right, I need to make it a habit and make time for my wellbeing!

Yes, I think I am on the right track, despite from tough days I try to stick to my guns. It was hard before and some of the panic attacks would literally get me welded to bed - couldn't get up as I was afraid of collapsing and terrified of going out and meeting people so it was pretty bad but despite from everything I keep pushing myself. Few days ago I even went to a concert where there was hundreds of people around and I had no panic attack or anything! A bit anxious but that was all.. 😁

Best of luck to you and keeping my fingers crossed for you x

    Hi Sylwia,

TM Meditation has helped me greatly. 20 minute in morning and evening.

TM is Transcendental Meditation. TM is a simple technique. You are given a mantra and it is practiced for 15–20 minutes twice per day. They have certified teachers throughout the world. It can really make a remarkable difference for people suffering from anxiety and or depression

Thanks! Tell me please is it something like a hypnotherapy or something? And the reason I am asking is because I am terrified of hypnosis - anything that can alter my thinking without my will wink How long have you been practising it since?
    • Posted

I have been practicing it for 7 years. TM is not hypnosis. You are always awake and aware of everything. It's way more safer than medication.

Thanks! I will look into it. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger wink
