Did surgery cure 100% your FS
Posted , 5 users are following.
I was diagnosed with right FS in May, but this started back in February doing chiropractic adjustments and deep tissue massage not aware of such condition. I have since had two cortisone injections and my severe pain went away, totally. In between i have been doing some physical therapy exercises at home. Significantly improved my range of motion, probably 70%. The tightness/stiffness remains, but I am able to use shoulder more now.
During my last follow up check up with Orthopedic surgeon, he recommends surgery to fast track my regaining of quality of life. This, rather than waiting it out for another 6 months or so doing the curre t therapy regimen. The proposed surgery is minimally invasive Arthroscopy removal of adhesions/releasing the capsule. Success rate is in the 90s percentile.
Anyone here who had similar surgery, totally cured from FS? Or did the condition come back after awhile?

Im a 49 year old policeman. ive had three prior shoulder surgeries. Ive had a dominant arm biceps tenodesis in 2014 and then it was determined that my rotator cuff was torn so they did a subacromial decompression as well 5 months later. I also had a non dominant arm biceps tenodesis in 2012. all of these were work related. fast forward to July of this year when on my 49th birthday, - combative intoxicated subject took some swings at me. i took him to the ground to place him in custody and took the impact on my dominant arm. At the ER they took an x-ray which showed a widening of the AC joint (perhaps it was the subacromial decompression they saw where it was shaved down? Referred to an ortho who ordered MRI/arthrogram. It showed a small labral tear which he didnt seem too concerned with. He did a steroid injection and ive been doing months of PT. i cant externally rotate still and it hurts. same with cross body, (e.g. washing opposite shoulder or shampooing hair, tucking in shirt..) Last week the doctor said with my level of fitness and determination, id be a reliable candidate for ACR surgery. Im scheduled for one week from today.
Am i being realistic in thinking after two dominant arm surgeries plus a capsular release, that I'll be 100% to go back to the road after this? Im not able to work full duty in my current condition so they have me on desk duty, but is it realistic to envision being back on the street and safely being able to defend myself or the community? im really wrestling with this one but i need to get back to being pain free.

Hi Larry
.
god mate you have been through it haven't you.
.
all for being out of ache / pain and back to work.
.
why has the ortho picked on the capsule . has it scared up over the recovery times you have had.
.
had my procedures opposite way around to you. but as of this week I am 98% pain-free for the first time in four years.
.
had the ACR 17 months ago. i had the full 360° . it really eased the shoulder ache / sharp pain. they kind of dis connect the shoulder in a round about way.
.
had 4 ports through the joint. zero discomfort. hooray for scalene block.
.
i used a CPM machine and had the shoulder fully mobile the next day. just be very careful not to overload the tendons that’s all that holding the shoulder onto the body be careful with the physio and don’t overdo it.
.
as you have probably told by your surgeons on the past operations doing twice as much physio doesn’t mean it mends twice as fast.
.
It seems being an old expert on operations you are by now. always question the surgeon pre-op and post op.
.
you know the rules on what has been done.
.
i have finally got on top of the last 5% ache this week. seeing you used the term "ER" are you in the USA. I have just re-started using my neoprene shoulder cuff with electro magnetic pad inside from tshellz at the mend me shop from the US.
.
Sceptical but it actually really works it gives the shoulder a warm start to the day.
.
good luck on the operation and keep us up dated on your progress. it will work just keep positive. shoulders hey who needs them so over rated.

Hi piper
.
RELENTLESS
.
i would not wish Frozen Shoulder on my worst enemy.
.
is the night aches subsided or are you turning into a vampire.
.
i had forgotten about the heat pad. i had use it a lot up to operations.
.
i got prompted by the rehabilitation team last visit and when i started it again it really helped the ache that was left.
.
just try and increase blood to the area which aids recovery ( even start with a hot water bottle ) .
.
warning warning " oooh sound like robbie the robot if ya can remember him", i used the heat with the peppermint udder mint and i actually burnt the skin lol. it went brown dis coloured.
.
just trying to find options that i have tried to help.
.
i find it so hard understanding how this is dismissed as a problem........ yet it is so debilitating and so so so long lasting and detrimental to all of our well-being.
.
stay positive as ever from my end piper. yes it sucks. and have a great weekend and to you as well dark horse michelle.

it isn't dramatically sorer at night (not like it was the first few months) i unfortunately still can't sleep on that side (which is the side i always slept on).i don't get great sleep but more than i did at the start. i use heat a lot - with hot water bottles & head pads that go in microwave & of course udder mint (not at the same time). trying to up my physio exercises too.
FS sucks asssssss but we will all get there in the end

hi piper / michelle
.
finished the rehab this morning . got signed off from them.
.
had to do a strength test on the shoulder / tendon. i was at 98% compared to the good arm and no issues .
.
i was told to go for it while they over saw the test ( just in case ) so i have it me all and could blame them lol.
.
the electro- magnetic sleeve i have it on while driving to and from work is magic. increasing the blood flow to the joint has sped up the recovery so much.
.
its friday and my first full week in 5 months. call me old but i am shattered lol
.
how are you all doing

HOW ARE YOU PIPER !!.
.
is there any change or advances . the rehab specialist agreed on the electro- magnetic sleeve to improve blood to the injury !!!.
.
know you are struggling, is it worth a google search. for a cost effective one ??.
.
i had poo pooed it . but its worked at last.
.
sorry for the last post , kinda up beat and happy, after 46 months of hurt. know we are all struggling. its the light coming through at last .
.
which means for you it will improve. use me as an example. i am cautious as i did this last year and fell head first into a pile of poo and had to start all over again
.
so being happy with a warning sign on me shoulder lol.

you don't have to be sorry for a positive post Colin.im doing ok, range of movement still about 50-60% but I think it is improving slowly its just tougher going some days when you have other stuff going on in your life....but look I know that FS will end at some point down the line

hi piper and michelle
.
been 4 weeks since last check in. just seeing if there are any changes or is it the same piper . just too slow for you and Christmas is looming again.
.
are you still in a good place and ticking along michelle .
.
i finally can say i am out the tunnel and in the light at last ( 4 years in 2 weeks time ).
yes will celebrate lol.
.
working really hard again physically. not holding back mentally now and its holding and pain free.
.
that was a journey and a half. now squabbling with the insurance company. seems i will get every penny spent on treatment and £2 per day for the pain ( couple of thousand pounds ).
.
at least i am healthy now.

Hi piper
.
we had a party for me 4th anniversary lol
.
finally settled the injury. just did not get any sport injury physio costs. small print i should have gone to a physiotherapist
.
back at work full time. doing every thing i should not be doing and struggling again.
.
should have got a new shoulder it would have been faster.
.
same issues different tendon ( tricept tendon ) . mailed the rehabilitation team. early signs of tendonitis again.
.
company just will not listen or understand. having to work 24/7 all week started it off again. yes its illegal but some how are doing it to us.
.
i think it is just too fragile now all the work has been done on it. all from a frozen joint !!!!!.
.
small gains for you as well. well done keep positive.
.
up date us after new year.
.
happy frozen shoulders to each and everyone of ya

ahhhh Colin that's very mean of them not to cover your sports physio cost, i hope it hasn't left you very out of pocket.
bit worried to read how much you are pushing yourself in work.weren't bosses told that you could only do so much?.can you get someone else to help you with the parts that could do you further damage to yourself with?
remember to put yourself first....its only a job....its not worth doing yourself another injury for
colin1964 Piper2022

hi piper
.
1st off have a great christmas
.
yes very mean. i have a report from the rehabilitation team and just received the draft from the surgeon.
.
boils down to dont ruin all my work done. the report states i am to work a standard week only due to the fragility of the joint.
.
i have to play them at their own game. sad as i am a dedicated worked ( old school ) honour.
.
we asked for £33,377 which i have actually spent " a real load of money". had reciepts for every thing.
.
and £16,800 for injury pain over 4 years. injury law guide lines. brought it to 50k,
.
i got £36,000, so for 4 years of hurt and three operations, 8 months off work post operation recovery, i got 27p per day for all the ache.
.
sucks doesnt it, but hey i got what i spent out.
.
hope ya have a good break and try and stay positive
.

.
nowhere near the operation site. just back from docs. got sport injury on thursday and physio on 28 dec. it just is not right and i am back holding a pillow of a night.
.
gutted. i know its the work load. far too much and too heavy for the fragile joint.
.
sod sod sod and a ho ho ho

.

glad to get a reply from you but sorry that you are struggling so much.i really feel for you. i was getting worried about you when you said you quit your job & then you didn't reply so I ended up contacting Michelle to see if she had heard from you
good auld udder to the rescue !!
have you got aptmt for MRI yet?

Hi Piper
.
yup same old record. different tune lol
.
and yes i smell like a cow udder. trying to get the chilli rock sauce but seems not to be on sale any more.
.
going to see the consultant on fri 26th this month. professor lee at 108 harley street. i just want to stop aching for a change.
.
actually had this tendon up since 21st june 2021 while on the CPM machine ( referred back to me video log), it kept asking about this problem to the surgeon and consultant and the rehab team.
.
i was told if i left it alone it would go away. so i left it and now its still here. lisa really not happy. kept it a secret for the past 3 months. she wondered why i kept on going to physio and ultrasound !!!!!.
.
it all comes from the medial deltoid area. its swollen and has been since that time. really at a loss.
.
i am not allowed to see the old team as they represented me for my claim and professional conduct rules them out. the claim is finished and paid so i am at a loss as they know my shoulder intimately to say the least.
.
work is a big issue all work tops and fire doors and no sign of a office job yet
.

colin, its so unfair that after all you have been through you are still struggling.
if you are still paying out for appointments etc....are they going to cover you for these expenses or ??
am glad you have told Lisa now, you need support.
can you arrange a meeting with your bosses boss to discuss office position cos it seems like they are really neglecting health & safety at this point
colin1964 Piper2022

hi piper
.
yes i am having to pay out for treatment. now the claim has been settled . it is down to me to finance !!!.
.
i told everyone about the issue with the area. they would not attribute it to the injury.
.
if i never got injured then i would not have had this issue. so in my eyes it was part of the claim . they even squabbled over the tendon operation not being part of the initial injury. hence why they forced the claim to finish.
.
work do not care. i have sent in surgeons physio and rehab letters asking them to suspend all overtime that i am forced to do.
.

oh colin, that's just terrible that they can force you to do overtime, they have absolutely no regard for your well being at all.can you look for a new job that doesnt hAve so much heavy lifting involved?
am so annoyed for you that you are paying for this. they shouldn't have settled till you were 100%

hi piper.
.
MRI done. had it done behind the london eye. private again. will know what the results are in 3 days to pass on to the ortho consultant.
.
6am on a sunday to get up there.
.
no movement on the job still brutal and hard work. the desk positions hinted about and been sub contracted out and an electrician has taken the post of supervisor.
.
it seems i am not liked in the east division. through injury.
.
will let ya know the results. its going to be scar tissue due to over working the shoulder.
.
but we will see.

Christ Colin, your job are being so unfair to you, i mean its their fault that you are in this situation at all.i mean not that long ago you had the bosses boss begging you to stay....so why are they being so horrible.Im so frustrated for you being in this horrible situation.
I hope the MRI is conclusive and not emmmmmhhh we are not sure what's causing the pain.Really hope they can help you get back to pain free.
