Diet change helps lichen sclerosis

Posted , 44 users are following.

I’ve suffered with vaginal lichen sclerosis for over 35 years. I’ve tried everything from emu oil , to borax to prp. I’ve changed my diet and it has changed my life dramatically. Not one EXPERT suggested this. I no longer have soak in borax or lay with ice packs. My lesions that went unheard for 6 months healed in 5 weeks and itching is minimal . If you are desperate and I was change your diet: no gluten, no dairy, no no no sugar / carbs. For the first time in 35+ years I’m healed and minimal itching.

Really d not itch my vagina burns. What can you do about that.

Brenda I’m guessing burning and itching are both the lichen at work .... I would try changing my diet using unscented soap such a cetaphil, unscented laundry detergent .  I did lay with ice packs prior to this but I don’t need to any more .

OH Marci! I'm so so sorry you had to wait so friggin many years before the info got out about autoimmune diet or anti-inflammatory diet. (I'm not sure yet if they are very different). So glad that the web of caring out of hte box sufferers are gong ahead and finding the solutions that I truly hope every doctors office will soon have a info sheet all ready to go!

Nancy my clitoris was not hidden. In the past year  I  had deep pains that wouldn’t heel for over 6 months.  I would soak in borax and cornstarch nightly. I went to Italy and had to pack cornstarch because I couldn’t switch brands. I’m allergic to all topical antibiotic ointments and was miserable . It wa painful. When if it did heal they would reappear. I’ve had the most recent open lesions since September. 4 months and they healed within 5 weeks. New skin has grown over the lesions. Other rough calluses skin is softening and beginning to feel like normal skin and looks pinker and healthy. I call that heeled or heeling.

I’m not a dr nor associated with any diet or products I speak of. But after having suffered for longer than most and been one of the lucky few to try PRP I was really left with one of three options try to get another PRP treatment about t $5,000 ( knowing it lasted about a year) , try CO2 laser, also the same price or try to change my diet. My friends dog story inspired me . Hazel my friends dog had HORRIBLE skin issues since she was a puppy. My friend Janie took her to every specialist and tried everything ointment , meds, creams baths etc . They tried many diets .  Finaly they put her on a specific diet of organic food and kangaroo meat. Her skin was 98% better with dietary change. I still wasn’t inspired as I love fruit , dairy and Starbucks. But I was really suffering and sex was impossible. Not great for a single person. I met a man who is in functional medicine and works persominently with people who suffer autoimmune diseases.  I decided that although VeRY hard it was worth trying to see what would happen. Within 2-3 weeks the itching was 97% better and the healing began and has continued. Yes it’s very hard and boring and limiting BuT it’s worked ....

oh gosh Marci - okay so I guess I've gotta bite the bullet then.. no carbs no sugars... I had had such high hopes that I didn't need to go that restricitve since I felt so much better really quickly with the Vitamin D3, acupuncture, MSM, Vitamin B's etc... but not hurting is not healing either.

I AM so excited that you said we don't have to give up butter! I love cocomut oil too but sometimes... artichokes just beg for butter memon and salt!

THANKS again for writing up in detail for us.

It was suggested to me to go very restrictive to see if it helped. Then slowly add things. With that being said. Dory is a definite NO as is gluten. What you can add is some and I dress some low carb veggies like eggplant, aqeetpotaoto.  It is drastic but I’ve see dramatic results quickly. I was prepared to have co2 laser in January. I’d have to have it every year. Now I do not need to do so. Also, my skin looks amazing, I have lots of energy . I use to crash in the afternoon and now I don’t. I hear it’s great for hair and nails . But I can’t tell that yet. Too early,

Best wishes. Let me know if you have questions.

      Marci

I'm preparing myself for the very restrictive test, thanks.  Marci, but what is Dory? is that a british word food of some kind?  I didn't think my artichoke is a gluten food?  smiles and thanks

Hi Marci, I am gluten, salicylate, histamine, sulfite and lactose intolerant.  I had to change my diet considerably which is why I believe I have not flared for a long time.  This was not a choice I chose but it fits in with what you have said regarding diet.

what do you eat and what do you avoid on addition to gluten and lactose. I just got diagnosed with oral lichen planus and I see some appearance of it on my skin as well. My doctor just asked me to avoid spicy food and acidic ( could be because of oral biopsy) .

I see so many contradictory lists of what to avoid and what to eat. I am confused. On top of that I am a vegetarian . ( No sea food either) I do eat eggs though.

Hi there Marci. well done to you for sticking to your modified diet. What sort of percentage carbs do you do? thanks :-)

Well done Marci!! It takes a lot of strength to stick with such a rigid diet!!

Yes I agree totally with you. I was fortunate my dr told me to work on one at a time. First I went gluten free then the no no sugar diet has helped me too.

Glad it is helping you too

    Hugs

HI Marci.... dare I ask, what does "healed" mean for you? Does that mean you can still see or again use your clitorus for instance (or never lost it in 35 years)? THank you so much for your sharing.

From my understanding our immune system is compromised per se . It’s doin what it is suppose to do. Reacting to something foreign. The question is what has happened - it my be glycation - sugar binding to cells and causing them to change shape . For all

People with auto inundated it’s our area of weakness where it’s evident for vaginal lichen sclerosis it’s skin in vagina  for other auto immune their weak area may be nerves or tissue. Im not sure This is 100 the answe but I’ve had dramatic results when all else failed and honestly cavemen did NoT eat carbs ... sugar of any kind and very very little fruit .

      Hi Marci,

I just found a lady Dr who has 'cured' her Multiple Sclerosis with diet and supplements to some extent. She now teaches/treats her patients with her methods and people are getting well from seriously bad auto-immune conditions.

The reason I mention this is because she advocates eating lots of low carb veg ( dark green leafy and roots, like swede, onion , that sort of thing) and fruits ( berries mainly) which is why I wondered what level of carbs you eat. I track all my food and drink via an online database and having cut out Gluten ( yeah! wasn't as hard as I thought) and any added sugars I really struggle to eat the calories I should get for the day unless I load with all the good fats, which is surprisingly easy to do also :-) my carbs average at 32% of total calories. Just wondering if that is low enough to see some effect on the LS in your experience?

I appreciate that you may not log your carbs but any insights would be appreciated.

      Many thanks

      Sue :-)

Actually, having just re-read the thread, I can see what you are eating. Most of my carbs are from fruit and veg ( average 7.5 portions a day) but I guess you are getting some carbs from legumes.
