Hello Not sure if I can help but this is my experience.  Around 4 months ago I started to get awful mid and upper back pain and tightness and soreness down the breast bone.  My gp put it down to stress and tension as I suffer from anxiety slight especially health anxiety.  I also have IBS and diverticular disease, so digestive problems.  My symptoms when they started were slight feeling of food getting stuck and mild indigestion not heartburn but which did seem some how at times to be related to back pain or should I say the back pain seems like indigestion related.  I also had awful bloating.  I would add though that do have arthritis in the neck and back..  Last week I underwent a gastroscopy the consultant gastro man though it might be some sore of motility disorder  The findings wee oesophagus and duodeum normal and mild gastritis in the stomach I am now taking a course of ranatidine.  I cannot take PPI's.  The pain in the back is really the worse apart from the bloating which has mostly settled.  Pain between and down both sides of shoulder blades and tightness around the bottom of rib cage, only really soreness down the breast bone and mild soreness if I press on in a spot above breasts.  The only things left to check are the pancreas and gallbladder but I am waiting to see how I do with the ranatidine not only for the indigestion but whether the back pain eases.  The back pain never keeps me awake and the only thing that really helps with pain which is at its worst  after being out walking is heat.  I hope this helps you,

Hello No if you read my reply to Katrina you will see I did not.  I agree awful when you have so many things to contend with.  Anxiety does not help just never know if it this, existing problems or something new then the mind goes into overdrive.  CC seems quite a complex condition.  Do they know what causes it?  When you google it it seems that they think it only lasts weeks a year at the most yet I read of people in pain for years, not good.  Hope all is well with you and that your costo will eventually go.  All the best and thanks for your reply.

    Hello Katerina

Sorry to hear you have this dreadful CC condition. There have been many forum discussions posted and I would suspect due to the variation of symptoms sufferers have experienced acid reflux is highly likely. My have experience has been the inability to eat, the loss of appetite and subsequent loss of weight. I think I have prehaps a mild bout of reflux but because the lack of eating this has been the one amongst several of the symptoms for me.

Please do stay in touch and let us know how you are doing and of course for support.

I have had CC for 6 approximately now.

Hi katerina. I sometimes get a burning pain in my chest walls when I eat. My biggest problem is swallowing or sometimes it feels I have something stuck and can’t swallow properly x

Hello No of course I don't mind you asking.  No I have not been diagnosed with costo.  I replied because I still wonder if I might have it.  When the gp orginally examined me she felt all down the breast bone which was very sore to the touch and then down the spine which was the same I also  had as I mentioned  sore spots when touched above the breast,  She did mention the word costochondro at the time but I did not know anything about this problem until I googled it.  She said it was stress related as all my muscles were tight.  It was only because some people say they get pain not only in the chest but the back as well that I became interested also some like you were mentioning digestive problems as well.  Of course this might just be stress, and the back might be the arthritiis getting worse.  The gp does not seem concerned with my back although she is a very caring and will aways send you for tests if needed so I do have faith in her as does my husband.  I did not get a diagnosis of Gerd just mild gastritis and I hardly ever get heartburn.  Sorry if I have confused you.  It seems to me doctors are not that helpful with costo and it seems that it can last for ages.  I hope that is not so in your case.  This may not of course apply to everyone but I am a great believer of treating the body as a whole ( I don't mean ignore doctors and use herbs etc) but often modern diseases have so many symptoms and you need to get to the core of it.  I have an underactive thyroid and it has a list of symptoms as long as your arm if you don't get the dose of thyroxine right then you will continue to feel below par.  Hope all goes well for you.

      I spelled it wrong.

Its gerd or gord = gastro oesophageal reflux disease.

Its a chronic acid reflux condition.

Chest, back and other pains. Indigestion, heartburn.

      Its not part of costo.

I wondered if ppl have digestive issues on costo.

Cos if not I could have both conditions together.
