Hi can anyone help please I have been diagnosed with Diverticular Disease but I get a lot of pain in my right side' also at the bottom of my tummy it feels like I have pebbles rolling around. I have also had a gastric bypass 5 years ago so eating bran is something I cant do and to be honest don't need as I go too much neutral as soon as I eat I am in the loo and I am so scared when I go out because I know if I get a little anxious I need the loo and I wont eat out because of the same reason. It feels my life revolves around the loo day and night and I am getting so drained and tried by it all. Can anybody help please my doc don't seem to know what to do neutral Thanks for reading x

Hi Polly so sorry to hear that' but on here we are all from different times im new to D/D but I have quite a few other problems as well Then there Kaz(popcorn) who like you has D/D and IBS' I have only just been diagnosed where kaz has had it for sometime ' then there's Phyllis who also has it but not so fierce so any help we can give we will try we all help each other as and when we can. It not easy coming to terms with this disease and yes you cant just carry on as normal not if you want to stay as well as possible because you will pay for it as you have done by ending up in hospital or on antibiotics its not easy as im finding out but since talking with Kaz and Phyllis it has helped me so much and the first thing was knowing im not on my own then finding out the best food to eat and what to avoid ' when Kaz is back on she will be the best one to talk to about food but if you just need to talk or have a good moan then we are all hear. You take care. Joan

Hi Popcorn, thanks for getting back to me, right here we go------- first diagnosed 10 years ago, had a thingi put up my bum, I am on Sotol and aspirin for Atrial Fibrillation,I've had a water infection on and off since July,on antibiotics for it, its ok now but after that I had pain in side was on Ciproxoflin.Last week I was on holiday for a few days and the pain started in my left side again, and I had a very loose stool, but not watery, had to come home went 3 or 4 times,am still on medication for it,have about three more days to go then finished.I've got all sorts of things running through my head what I have got ,and can't seem to forget about them, I just wish it would clear up just for a bit. Someone told me that probiotics were good to take. I do try and ear healthy a lot of vegs i eat, hardly any cakes etc, although at the moment I am keeping a diary of what I eat during the day,but do find that if I eat smaller meals it doesn;t seem so bad. Sorry to have lumbered you with all this speil,

    Thank you Kat Ann

Well in hospital bored so I'm here to help

First the thing up your bum was colonoscopy that what shows the dd

Ok your find eating small meals better but as there small best to snack on low fibre day diet

If you look at fodmap site this will help you eat the right foods second don't it fats ie fried or high fat foods also processed foods ie packet ham etc

Don't drink alchol or fizzy drinks

Milk substitute for soya or rice

If you like herbal teas peppermint or ginger are good for the bowels

    Di not drink coffee

Drink at least 5 pints of water per day in any form

On diaharra days sip dyralite this well prevent dehydration

Stay away from seeds and pips in fruit ie strawberries

Diviculitus is pouches in the intestine which get infections if food gets stuck into them this causes pain and diaharra invest in hot water bottle try warm stomach on attacks also hot baths relax muscles

Do not take aspirin or ibeuphen this cause irritation on the bowel wall take paracetamol

Well hope that helps a bit you know that Joan myself and phylis are here to help as much as we can and learn from each other

Take care her for you anytime kaz

Hope what Kaz says helps I have found it does its not always easy to stick too and it can really get you down at times and that's when you need to come on here and have a rant it helps ' it takes time to put it into your life but bit by bit you will but give yourself time out we all need that.

True not easy to go off the wagon as tempting food comes along its a new way of life but with time it does get easier but you do need to talk to others don't try and deal with it on your own look at me had it three + years and still default diary good way to help you write down all ingredients if the day so lets explain you have seeded bread sandwich you have attack now it could the seeds on the bread the bread itself the butter in the bread the filling so next day you have non seeded sandwich same filling as before but no attack hense it was the seeds so illiminate from diet

    Hope that makes sense

Hello ladies, You all seem to forget that we men also suffer from this , we just do not keep moaninig (lol)

I find the worst problem is it being so unpredictable. Not knowing untill the day if you have a problem or not.

Ond day fine, next in agony. I use a hot water bottle. Also find buscapan tablets will give relieve.

My GP has put them on prescription for me. Also I keep antibiotics in the cupboard if a infection occures.Fortunetly not need to take for the past 6 months. The only good thing Iam of the age for free prescriptions.

Its bad when it gets you like that because you want to still do stuff but don't have the energy and to be honest how can you work when one day your fine and next your not and unfortunately it not a illness that shows on the outside so its harder for people to understand' I know when I first told my sons they thought it was funny at first and said that's to do with going a loo a lot and having wind lol but they read up on it and got back to me and said mum how you going to manage with it ' you just have to but as you said its the not knowing one day to the next . What I find worse is if im somewhere and someone starts talking to me I start to think please tum don't start but the more I think the more it will how do you turn off your brain lol I cant .Oh and im Joan by the way there's a few of us on here you will hear from popcorn soon but she's in hospital at the moment but hopefully will be back very soon.

Has any one else had success with Buscapan? It was a locum who said it was worth trying and prescribed it when my Gp was on holiday (again). It provided a lot of relief so went back to Gp and he said fine, have all you want. It was after he relised I did have a problem,he let me have the antibiotic to keep on stand by.

I tried Mintec which a friend recomended but found I very quickly became inmune to it.

I had Buscapan at the beginning but it didn't work for me I had to have it at the same time have Fybogel it seem to work for a week or 2 then it just stop so I suppose its finding what works for each person.

Hi there Joan, Popcorn and Kaz, haven't been on here for a day or two as I have been on a short holiday, and I

I can't believe it but it was my first time that I have been away WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS - I honestly cannot believe it, so much that I am thinking about booking to go and see Blackpool Iluminations. I did sort of look out for what i ate,and I m going to continue to do so. I did take my hot water bottle, and drank bottled water, took pain killers with me as well. Thank you all for your kind help, will continue to keep talking to you all, keep well Angie

Hello Joan,Kaz and Phyllis, sorry I havent been on here for a while, after my little holiday I had my Son and

Daughter in law over. I got the rice milk that you suggested and find it better that cows milk - I have been

pretty good since I got back(did I tell you that I had been writing down what I have been eating for my meals)

am sure that has helped a lot,but unfortunately today I have had a lot of bread and am paying for it now, feel so bloated and windy really uncomfortable.wonder if i should cut out bread altogether.and just have ryvita, but being as i like bread its not the same.

How are you all keeping these days -hope you all are not too bad,I believe you were in hospital Kaz the last time i wrote are you out and ok now.take care all of you,Ann x

Hi got out of hospital yesterday

Glad the rice milk helped as for bread not worth getting ryvita as these contain wheat as well as your keeping a diary did bread cause what you feel today as you've said you eat a lot so maybe over indulgence causing it so don't eat any fir a few days let the system clear for 72 hours this will clear what you eaten then on the third day eat some see if it causes any symtoms if you do it still maybe not the bread but the butter process if illumination again

To ease your symtoms drink hot boiled plain water if you have lemon juice one tablespoon this will ease bloating if you have basupan take as directed this will ease cramps let me now how you get on
