I have also had a gastric bypass 5 years ago so eating bran is something I cant do and to be honest don't need as I go too much neutral as soon as I eat I am in the loo and I am so scared when I go out because I know if I get a little anxious I need the loo and I wont eat out because of the same reason. It feels my life revolves around the loo day and night and I am getting so drained and tried by it all. Can anybody help please my doc don't seem to know what to do neutral Thanks for reading x

    Hi everyone,

I am from Canada and, like all of you ,have had my troubles with diverticulitis. My doctor decided this is why I had severe left abdominal pain back in the fall and puit me on two antibiotics. They made the condition worse so he put me on a third one. When this also made things worse (I was tied to the toilet and couldn't leave the house) he took a "poop test" and found I had C-diff which was caused by the antibiotics. I had no good bacteria left so the C-diff took over. This can be fatal! He then prescribed Vancomycin which started to have a positive effect after three or four days. If you are getting sicker and sicker on antibiotics for anything, especially wide spectrum ones, get a "poop test" to see if something else is going on. This is a good forum for diverticulitis and related diseases. Good diet suggestions. I hate missing out on salads but they just don't agree with me. I am best with cooked foods, rice,no red meat.

Hi Joan and anyone else reading this. I am new to the forum and live in Canada. In December I was diagnosed with diverticulitis and was prescribed two antibiotics for this. After a week I was sicker than ever so the doc prescribed a third antibiotic which made matters worse. By this time I was very ill indeed and practically living on the toilet. Finally the doc did a "poop test" and found I had C-diff.  This can be fatal! Seems the antibiotics killed off all the healthy bacteria and the C-diff took over.On the plus side I lost 10 pounds in two weeks but this is not the way to lose weightsmile  After a few days on Vancomycin I was on the mend (very expensive at $325.00 for two weeks). It has taken about six more weeks for me to be able to eat anything like a normal diet and not be in pain all the time. A cautioary tale-if you have non-stop diarrhea, whether or not you have diver, maybe get a "poop test" to see if it something else.

Thanks for this thread, this has given me more insight than any of the doctors I've seen so far.

I was diagnosed with diverticulitis in October 2014 after an emergency admission which had been misdiagnosed for 3 days as a bladder infection.

I had complications with an abscess and a small perforation.

I was kept nil by mouth for 4 days in case they needed to operate and fit a stoma, which I narrowly avoided.

Anyway, 6 months on I have been ok until this week.

I have pain, nausea when I eat, feel drained and tired and I also have diarrhoea as well as bad reflux to the point it is burning my throat.

I have been given antibiotics to ward of any infection.

The worst thing is the feeling that you are on your own because it really gets to you.

I am trying not to panic as this makes the symptoms worse.

It's not nice to say, but is is nice to know there are people out there with similar things.

    Any help would be appreciated.
