DIVI DINERS

Posted , 82 users are following.

Returning from a hospital session of Drips and Deprevation (food) I was handed a Low Residue diet to follow. Scant in products, and information what to do with said products, I searced the web for more information,

onlt to find contradictory eat's and don't eats, so I thought that WE the

sufferers of food deprevation should start our own Divi Diners club and see if we can throw some light on the subject.

Ilove mushrooms, but cannot find any info about them.

How do we achieve our five a day if we can't eat fruit? Is it O.K. to take the

skins off?

Can we have chips or roasties,or fish with batter on?

Spices, do any of you use spices. and what do you put on spaghetti?

Can we blitz veggies, as stews and casseroles are forbidden?

Pastry is allowed, but no mentoin of which type.

So. can we help each other ,then at least when ,or if we ,dine out, we can

order something from the menu.

I cannot eat boiled potatoes ,eggs (is it O.K to have a fried one?)

jelly and rice pudding for ever. .

So please join in and share your doe's and dont's. mushrooms eaters

would be good to hear from.

    Hi,

just come out of hospital and really struggling to eat again.

So I would be interested to see what helps others, when I asked in the hospital

for advice all they did was print off a page from Boots web site that gave me very bad advice I feel for me.

Hi Lynne, hope the letter from Jon will help, it has cerainly given me more confidence about eating "proper "food. It seems  to be an area of no interest to  Divi staff .  An offer to see a dietician would probably be helpful, as an out patient . So I supose the next best thing would be your, G.P.

However , Ithink that if more "divi" sufferers join in ,we willbe able to take of each other.

Hope this helps, and hope you are painfree.

      Hi Jacqi,

Yes Jon's list will be helpful, I am waiting to

Go back in to hospital for further tests as the ct

Scan suggests I now have problems both sides

now, although my GP said it couldn't happen!

Thanks for the post as information like this

Is really helpful when you don't know where to turn.

      Lynne.

      Hi Jacqui,

Yes I'm ok, still having some pains and

Trying to eat although I don't really want too.

Still having a metallic taste in my mouth

from all the antibiotics so that doesn't help!

Have finished them now so hopefully it will go.

Trying to write a food diary and writing down

      Suggestions I read.

Just wondering if I will ever get back to

'Normal' have a flexible sigmoidoscopy at the

end of the month and have heard it is very

      painful!

Does anyone ever eat salads now??

      Lynne.

Hello Lynne glad you are feeling a tad better  I had the same probs

Ifelt like a zombie when I came home, so I just stayed in bed, and drank

flavoured water the still variety. Strangely enough I didn't feel hungry  for ages so I assumed the drip content must have been liquid food .

One of the antibiotics did remove the contents of my stomach on occassions, and the metallic taste must have been stomach acid,

because that's all that was in there. That has now gone. My "viewing"

day was moved up a month , the doctor thought I would be too sore inside. All pain has now gone, thankfully, and I di stick to the no-no diet stuff that just slid down.  I don't see any salad  or raw veggies on the sheet  Probably need four stomachs like a cow to digest the stuff

Apparently the investigation only hurts whe the camera goes round the

corners but there is sedation on offer which yours truly has opted for

I keep having "wuss" moments but inevatiblity draws the moment on. You will be done before me ,so IEXPECT you to tell me that it was not

as bad as you expected Tea and a couple of (allowed ) shortbread biscuits are beckoning

Lynne, first let me put your mind at rest. The procedure was not in the slightest bit painful; odd yes; but no pain The drugs they give you to clear you out are lethal. (Can't remember the name.) Do not stray more than 10 feet from your toilet. You will understand..... I had a mild sedative, but I was more interested in trying to see the screen (yes I know I am strange) than I was worrying about what he was doing. When it was done, they took me back to the specialist ward (so we were all in the same boat) and told me to rest, so I went to sleep for an hour. When I was a bit more compos mentis they just said they had found exactly as expected. Bit more advice about diet and that was it. Whilst I aopreciate relaxing is not the foremost thing on your mind, it does make all the difference during the procedure. Think if anything you like, as long as you relax. It really will help.  Hope it goes well for you.

morning donna, up early ,norain, so Im off to a car boot in the Hope valley

If everyone has the bug it's usually caused by people not washing   their

      hands after you know what!!!!!!!!!!!

Mushy peas are as bad as all the other types, they all have skins, that's the troublemaker, hard to digest, so they sit in your little pockets

      and fester

Probably some baby yorkshires and asparagus

      speak soon

Yes going ok! Just being very careful still,

I haven't had the 'investigation' yet, in 2 weeks

      Not looking forward to it!

Does anyone have an issue with Fruit juice,

I was told to have it for the fibre but not sure if

It is agreeing with me, really missing my fruit.

      Hope everyone is ok.

Hello Lynne i've been scrolling through the posts and can't find out if you had your investigation and if it came out good.  Must be yards of posts and I might have passed it

So, how did it go ?

      Hi Jacqui

Yes had procedure, I don't want to go through that again, they had to abandon the procedure as my colon was to thickened and scared to get the camera through.

I'm not doing to bad, like everyone else up and down days. Hardly eat any fruit only bananas and can only tolerate two veg once a week usually, prefer to be on bland food, less risk.

I'm getting a bit braver eating mangoes, and nectarines and peaches.

but take the skins off first   Really miss peas and sweet corn and ONIONS

      big time.

Bit of an odd experience looking up your own rear end I over dosed on the gas and air thing, and could'nt stop heaving, so I couldn;t ask him

any questions, then I never saw him again  Story of my life !!!

Oh god, I remember the drugs to clean you out and boy, do they do just that.  Incredibly painful, much more than the actual examination.  I did ask for every sedative going so don't remember a thing - thank goodness.

Finding a diet, what and how to eat straight after an episode and then onwards is very difficult with lots of differing info out there which can be quite depressing.

Give it time you will be eating salads in no time. Though there will be days when you wonder if you will.

In the mean time try pickles and par boiled carrots. You can use honey and ginger on the carrots. Also, try vegetable soup instead of a salad.

Zucchini squash is mild and easily digested when lightly boiled.

I have read alot about onions on here. I find that if I saute them until translucent I can digest and they are a mild source of magnesium which you need to heal your gut.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: consider getting rid of gluten.
