Dizziness

I have been prescribed Amitriptyline for nueropathic pain, after Keppra did not suit me. The pain seems to be derived from a back injury, but a neurologist Thinks  an antidepressant drug will help. The pain has been suppressed, but the side effects are a problem, like extreme tiredness and today dizziness when I was driving. Anyone had a similar problem and is it worth sticking with.

I never experienced dizziness, but had terrible fatigue for months. The fatigue did finally improve however. Also have really bad dry mouth, but I do take a large dose of 100 mg which makes side effects worse. Also gained almost 30 lbs from this, which is the biggest issue. I recently started metformin to counteract the weight gain, and have lost 6 lbs. I would ask your Dr about prescribing it BEFORE you gain weight. Almost everyone gains a significant amount on this medicine, and metformin can help prevent it. Amitryptilline causes major sweet cravings and makes you very hungry. Metformin controls blood sugar spikes which really helps with those. Amittryptilline also slows your metabolism, so it is a double whammy. However, it does work for pain, for me anyway, but only once I went to 100 mg.

Yes that's one of the horrid side effects...dry mouth..I take a drink of water to bed so I can sip away when  I need to..the bottle is usually empty in the morning, but I never remember drinking it..I also use a mouth moisturiser..I have have Sorjrens syndrome too, ..which just dries everything out anyway, but I've not had weight problems ..I'm on the PALEO  eating lifestyle so, I never get hungry or have munchies etc..well worth a google...you loose weight very quickly if you need to and if you don't, you just stay the same??  Very healthy..lots to eat...very effective fir autoimmune sufferers..?..be blessed, have a great day...:-) xx

Also, be sure you are taking it at bedtime, that will help with the sleepiness.

After only 4days I have decided to knock Amitriptyline on the head. I could not take the side effects. I have been off it nearly 3 days and I am still getting slight dizziness. Anyone know how long it takes to get out of your system. I have a long drive to do on Saturday.

Best to get the tests done first and then decide what medication will work best for you. Good luck!
