Dizziness as Worst Symptom

Does anyone else have dizziness as their worst symptom? I suffer from constant lightheadedness and bad balance issues, plus a host of other issues (slurred speech, brain forg, strong head pulse). I just wanted to see if anyone else had dizziness as their worst symptom and what they are doing to try and deal with it. Thank you.

    Hi

Although I have days were dizziness is pretty bad,

I can't say it is my worst symptoms.

I do keep a close eye on my blood pressure when it is bad,

more often than not it accompanies low BP or a migraine.

It might be as well to have your BP checked if this is really bad. Alternatively

You could try some vertigo medication, maybe this may help?

I wish you well and hope you find some thing to help x

    Hi Ashiode,

Dizziness is sometimes one of my most distressing symptoms. I get symptoms at different times and in March I had dizziness for about 4 weeks. It was combined with high intensity brain fog, memory problems and the issue of overloaded senses. Bad tinnitus too. Everything was too bright and loud. I felt I was going to pass out all the time. As with cfs/me, I wasn't sure if I was actually ill or just symptomatic. As I felt so ill with it, I was resting much more. I have a dark bedroom and I felt this helped along with no music etc. I'm just coming out the other side although I am having to maintain the rest.

A long time ago, I had labyrinthitis and ended up having it recur occasionally. I had blood tests at the time as I keep falling to one side too. I had a b12 deficiency. When I took the vitamin, the issue resolved.

I like you, also slur and feel the ligtheadedness alot.

I feel that the b vit and rest helps with the issue myself. Do you have the dizziness all the time? Have you had any blood tests recently? Dizziness can be caused by other conditions and as cfs/me seems to deplete certain vitamins and minerals, may be worth checking them to make sure thats not adding to things. Hope you get some relief from it.

    Hope that helps

Thank you Beverley. Yes, it's 24/7. I have a constant pulsing sensation in my head that I think causes it. I have had my blood checked but nothing ever comes up. Thanks again.

Do you ever not notice the pulsing, such as say you're involved in something where it seems to disappear? I can only imagine how frustrating that could be sometimes, a bit like the overload of light and sound I get. Also the frustration with the negative result blood tests.

Do you find the dizziness is less laying down or sitting still? I find laying down better. There Is also a linked condition called pots you could google and see if other things apply.

I was told I could not get labyrinthitus more than once. I got it really bad quite a few years ago and  was laughed at when I said I thought I had it again this was by the health professionals.

      Hi Alison,

I'm sorry to hear of your thoughts being rejected like that. There were four of us who got it at the same time three having it recurring. .my sister is one of them. My doctor and one of my peers doctors were definitely of the opinion that symptoms can come back to (not sure of the exact number) approx 1 in 6 of sufferers? This was over 15 yrs ago though. She was also told the symptoms can come back wirh stress. Labyrinthitis can physically damage the inner ear to cause the reoccurring problems. I remember something about calcium deposits getting distributed in the labyrinth and this can cause the balance issue. The other balance problem causer being meniers syndrome or full on vertigo.

Its shocking that we get such a mixed bag of health professionals. I've had a spinal injuries consultant be really rude to me and physio refuse to work with me because of the cfs/me but, mostly my experience is positive.

Dizziness is one of my symptoms, but not the worst. I do have a tendency to stagger about and fall into walls. I also tend to miss doorways. My worst symptoms are fatigue and pain. I'm not sure what a head pulse is. Maybe, I don't get them or I would know. I assume you checked with a doctor to make sure these symptoms do not have some other cause. Take care, and I hope you have a good week. 😃

      Hi Ravenwood,

I too walk Into doorways and stagger and fall into things. My worst being walking into a lamppost and bruising two of my ribs (most embarrassing! ) I think that It's a mixture of brain fog and faulty spatial awareness that causes the walking into things.

My GP prescribed Serc (betahistine) for the dizziness, and that helped. I keep it in the cupboard and take it as needed, because it loses it's effect if you take it all the time.

I think I'll ask my doctor for this pixie, thanks for mentioning it.

I was given serc too for the labyrinthitis. There's a few side affects and as it's used to treat schizophrenia, It put me off taking them. We're all different so may work For you like pixie

I looked into Serc pretty thoroughly and i found no mention of it being effective against schizophrenia, but it is used for vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus and nausea. Perhaps these can be associated with schizophrenia?

Really? Maybe they Changed how they use it now as when I was prescribed it, along with my friend who also had labyrinthitis, it was on the information leaflet in the pills box. My friend also found It odd .we live about 25 miles apart and were suprized that this was seemingly the norm In regards treatment. It was used re the balance issues associated with labyrinthitis as well as schizophrenia. This was approx 15 yrs ago.

Hi, I do get lightheadedness sometimes which causes me some balance problems. I also occasionally get the pulsing throb in my head - mostly when I have overdone things!

If your blood pressure and blood tests have all repeatedly been ok I would suggest mentioning to your doctor about MS. This tends to have balance/mobility problems as a primary symptom.

    Best wishes :-)
