Dizziness In Waves

Hi,

Does anyone's dizziness come in waves? Since u had my second baby in April I have been constantly dizzy, I had a ct scan in June which was normal because of headaches I was getting prior to the baby being born and it was a detailed scan apparently that picked up nothing so the nuerologist discharged me off his list :-( however for the last 4/5 months I have had horrendous dizziness, it's there in the morning, it's there where I go to bed, there is just no let up, I am also getting a lot of headaches I don't know it it's stress, tension or migraine I haven't a clue & neither has gp, I have seen ent incase it's my ears and he thinks it could be vestibular neuritis but I'm not convinced they seem to use that just to fob you off with something, however this wouldn't cause the headaches!!! I am taking sertraline & propanranol for anxiety but again I'm convinced I'm being palmed off with the anxiety scenario I'm only anxious because I feel so rubbish all the time, it stops you doing everything, I could be just sitting chilling watching telly and it'll come as a wave through my body any my heart will start pounding it's horrible I don't understand why when I am at rest I still get dizzy, I've had a 24hr heart monitor and I'm waiting results I'm assuming all is ok as I've not heard anything!! I just hate feeling this way all the turn, as I type this my eyes won't focus properly and my head feels really really heavy and dizzy :-(

Hi emma...I would do a number of things.....First of all its not anxiety, stress....so many drs blame it on that.......Yes all the anxiety is brought on because you dont know whats wrong and because you feel horrible....ENT dr should be setting you up for a variety of testing...caloric balance rotary chair gaze etc......MRI of head and ear should be done and MRA of neck front and back....with and without contrast....rule out anything serious..... maybe vestibular rehab may help.....if all else fails neurologist and eye doctor.....Its a pain and long process  you keep going to doctors until someone has an answer...........Its horrible I know  I was unable to drive for 5 months.........suffered really bad one year ago.......and still going to drs.........had a bad day saturday......today was ok   they say its vestibular migraines........you dont need to have a headache....on meds   but.........I am not sure about this....my mom suffered from migraines.......now they want to sent me back for mri And MRA again..........

Can doctors arrange for mri etc or does it have to be a nuerologist etc? I've lost count the amount of times I have been back i just feel like they aren't taking me seriously, it's so scary being in my head right now it's unreal, I just don't feel right, I have been to a&e who have checked me over and said they are not worried but maybe I'm not explaining properly, it's horrendous, I don't know if it's stemming from my neck or my head but whatever is going on it's not normal at all, I feel like I'm living in constant fear that something is going to happen to me as I feel so terrible, if I go to the doctors again I don't know what to say as I've already been there and broken down in tears countless times cos I can't cope or because something is off big time, I know the signs of the worst things and maybe it's not what I think but I know something is going on how u can feel so bad for so long is beyond me x

any doctor can put in gor an MRI....I would have that all done ust to rule out the worse.......Then continue from there....Like I said this year has been horrible and I am still going through stuff everyday........My head now feels...not even sure how to explain it.... but yucky.....wondering if I have an eye problem.......If you dont feel like your doctors are helping look for others  but let them start putting in for tests....sometimes you have to wait three weeks to get the test done....and thats three weeks of just torture.........I have to wait two months  yes two months to see an opthamologist.........apparently hes good....but we will see......

I honestly don't know why they haven't sent me for an mri or another ct scan when I've been there in tears cos I feel like my head is up my backside if you like, how many times do you have to visit the doctor before they honestly rule out the worst, i appreciate that my neuro signs were good etc but there has to be a reason why I feel the way I do? I have done and tried everything they have asked me to do and I understand what they say when they say it's been going on a long time if something was going to happen then it would have by now hence they need to look at other avenues however I didn't have the dizziness before this is something new within the last 5 months but I did have the weird head sensation, it's hard to put into words, sometimes it's really head like it wants to snap back, sometimes it feels as if I'm just not here others it's the headache from hell but all the time it's dizzy! I have had a recent eye test but I am going for another one at a different opticians on Wednesday for a second opinion as I know they can tell a lot from your eyes so hoping all is well there! I do currently wear glasses and have the odd bout of blurry vision and unable to focus properly but I put it down to my mind playing tricks on me! What's tests what you had done? X

I first started with a horrible ent...saw him only 3 times than switched...going to go see another one who I didnt call yet to see what they say.......I had to just about BEG THE FIRST ENT to put in for aN MRI......anyway  I had MRI head and ear...with and without contrast........MRA of neck back and front.....caloric test...where they put in warm and cold air in your ears and see your response.......balance test....rotary chair .....and I think the other one was called a gaze test......where you follow dots with your eyes.......also went for vestibular rehab for 3 months once a week.......it helped.........tried several meds......I am now seeing a headache specialist because they are saying its vestibular migraines.........was getting much better and then noe a down fall she said could be something I ate.......then I went to her with new symptoms and she said its the blood vessel/artery in back of neck......I panicked......but I said that was all normal....now she says yes everything was in the normal range but one atery is which opened and the other one is a little narrow.....her office is calling it in today more mri and mra......Honestly it could be possible and I will get another opinion  but I think she has no idea what is going on.......Which brings me to my eyes........which were jerky yesterday very little but u could see it.....and one of my eyes slightly turned in towrds my nose   ALL THE DOCTORS AND TEST I took my eyes never did this.......It could be something called vertical heterophia...........so tired of seeing drs and stuff....but I want to get better........going to start with opthmalogist and then theres an optometrist  that specically deals with this conditions.........Sorry so long!!!!rolleyes

I'm 10 months into this. I fully understand the wave passing through the body. Had flu, went dizzy never shook it. I've seen ENT who said VN, my audio and calorific testing etc was ok. I had head mri. Clear. Neck had wear and tear and a patchy high T2 signal which was dismissed as I had no other neurological symptoms aside dizziness, tingling and lhermitte's sign! Still said not neurological. Passed neuro physical. Then saw spine guy and a sit down mri to check cord compression. All ok. And t2 was not apparent on this machine. Still dizzy and vague etc. Third neck mri showed patchy signal again. Checked B12. Ok. Now seen an endocrinologist for thyroid etc plus testing for Lyme and other auto immune diseases.

No progress in 10 months...pretty frustrated now. I have to trust the neuros interpretation as I have no medical training but the neck mri concerns me still as I have a physical manifestation in the lhermitte's. Which incidentally started after 300000 neck movements while doing the VRN exercises following my ENT visit! I have no idea what is going on. They took 14 phials of blood the other day....I guess that's enough! I know I'm not getting better. I feel crap all the time. It's like a hangover that just won't clear. Life really is not fun. I'm virtually housebound...well you know the score. Best wishes, hoping you recover soon...

Yep. Rubbish isn't it? Thing is each consultant gives a different story...ent said vestibular neuritis, neuro thought MS, spinal said stenosis, and endo I await in anticipation! Only one of the 4 specialists I saw actually listened to me and had spoken to the others to try and get the bigger picture. My head is swimming it just doesn't stop. 30 years I couldn't even begin to imagine...you have my sympathy

Thank you for your replies it's a crap time for us all, there just doesn't seem to be any let up, I had an ok day yeaterday which I was very positive about then today the left side of my face has gone tingly a headache has come on followed by the dizziness I wondered if it was because I had taken all my meds and not eaten so I've have some breakfast and a cuppa but no still the same still dizzy all I want is to not feel this way, although I had a ct in June I have not had anything since they just keep doing the same old checks and fobbing me off with more tablets to try! I have gone from taking nothing and being done to having to take 5/6 tablets a day, I don't want to be like this, I am a young mum with a 4yr old and a 7 months old baby which is stressful enough, it's weird cos the hole way through my second pregnancy I had no symptoms nothing I was fine then 2 months after he was born wham it hit me big time and it's been this bad ever since, I'm pretty sure it's not serious however I would like to rule all the bad stuff out as all i do is worry myself sick, I keep getting stabbing pains in my head which take me by complete surprise and it's really painful, I've got another app tonight with docs but I really don't know what to say that I haven't already x

Hi Emma, you may have said but have you seen an endocrinologist? I was wondering that if you were ok while pregnant it could be a hormonal imbalance/thyroid issue? Might be worth seeing? Best wishes

I haven't no, I have had a scan on my neck because I found a lump on my jaw and they did say my thyroid was slightly enlarged at the time & to get docs to do bloods which he did and they all came back clear, I'd never heard of one before, I just wasn't sure that it could be hormones or if it was just because I had something else to concentrate on that's why I felt ok?! I will mention it to the doctors tonight to see if they think it should be checked out. The pressure at the back of my head is horrible, it feels like my head wants to tip back all the time like it's really heavy on top of my neck & when I go dizzy my hole body goes light headed then feels really heavy, I just don't know what to do anymore sometime I just feel desperate x

I'd definitely mention it. I had my thyroid checked and although the bloods were within range I am slightly hypo. In other countries I would be treated if symptomatic but here the level was below where they consider treatment.

It seems strange that you didnt get it while pregnant - I doubt you were concentrating on being pregnant the WHOLE nine months! So it could be something hormonal. I'd push for it - they have to acknowledge it cant be coincidental?

I would push for a full blood screening if you havent had one, it might be a battle with your GP but lets face it, they're not doing much for you just now. Be as assertive as you can to get what you need.

Hi Emma you keep letting him know how you feel because you need to get to the bottom of this...you have 2 young children which that alone is very very demanding...My kids are all grown now but I had 3 and I know what its like not feeling well.........Meclizine I think I spelled it correctly may help somewhat with the dizziness...but its like putting a band aid over the problem........I am sorry because I am speaking to so many but what drs have you seen already????

I would also puch ent  .......something could have gone off during pregnancy.....no matter  how weird it might sound to your dr tell him....you know how your body feel and the symptoms
