Dizziness only when sitting down/lying down

I have an inside feeling that i am moving but this only happens when i am not doing anything. Its kind of like like i am on a train moving or an airplane. I am not falling over or losing balance. I cant even watch t.v and just relax. It feels much better when i am moving. It actually feels better when i am driving and doing exercises. This is really annoying and dont know wat to do. I still have a very big appetite but i cant really enjoy the food because of this. I Think the problem is either the neck or the ears. I got blood tested and urine tested( came back normal) and didnt need to do further tests because keeping me in bed. My doctor gave me paxil but i kinda dont want to use it yet because of the side effects. I am so mad because how can you get dizzy when your not doing anything, doesnt make any sense. I just need some advice and if some one could explain what is happening to me.

Im a 17 year old girl and I've had these dizziness as well...I feel it when I'm standing still (it feels like I'm slowly swaying in a circle ,but it's not horrible) and also I feel it when I lay down and try to sleep..its so horrible it feels like I'm not laying down like normally but kind of like the bed is sideways (I sleep on my belly) and its the weirdest and most uncomfortable feeling.I have done the blood test and urine test and everything came out positive....my neurologist sent me to do tomography to do brain and vein scan... but I still haven't been there because I'm busy...this balance feeling is ruining my life...I keep thinking about it 24/7 and it's giving me a depression...im worried that it might be something way more serious and because of thinking like that I almost cry every single day...I want it to end so badly, also this balance feeling started to happen in May when I got my first big dizziness where I woke up at night feeling super dizzy and it continued all day (of course it slowly went down) but this feeling that I have right now is horrible ,I feel terrible every single day....to mention more over lost 4kg because I eat less than normally because this balance feeling is worrying me and I loose my appetite because of that

and click on the tab "therapy"  and click "treatment and cure" which contains links to the information you need.  It also contains a list of possible symptoms you may be experiencing to help you self-diagnose.  He also has a 53 minute instructional video on YouTube showing how to do these vision exercises, but this can be accessed through the link on the website I gave you.   It is a type of visual skills deficit and convergence problem that has developed.  I have found some relief by doing the exercises but I am still in the process. I'm not a big fan of taking pills for stuff if I don't absolutely have to so this is good information and a good alternative. I hope this will help some of you.

After two years of dealing with this I am finally cured! I'll explain how in detail.

    First, my symptoms:

When sitting down it would trigger my "wonkyness" as I called it. Not standing up nor lying down. But once triggered, I would feel "wonky" the rest of the day. When it was a bad episode, I would lose balance toward my right side and this would scare me and also trigger anxiety and blood pressure spikes. I thought there was something seriously wrong with me.

I had blood tests, x-rays, glucose tests, even a thyroid gland test and eventually an MRI.

It ALL came out great thank God, but in the end the neurologist just said "you have an anxiety disorder and need to see a psychiatrist".

I did not believe that because standing or lying down I was fine. It was the sitting position that triggered it. I strongly believed it was a pinched nerve because it all started after a two hour road trip on a VERY bumpy road in a truck with supper tight suspension. I also had economic problems causing stress. A friend of mine that's a doctor did a "bio-resonance scan" that revealed I had a pinched nerve on the 5th vertebrae. However, that technology is not accepted in the medical community (my friend warned me about this). The doctor at the hospital where I had the MRI done practically laughed at me when I told him what the bio-resonance scan said.

My doctor friend had explained to me that the body tries to compensate and avoid pressure on the pinched nerve by tightening the neck muscles, and that blocks oxygen to the brain. He gave me muscle relaxers that helped a lot but did not cure the problem from the root, my muscles would eventually cramp again and the problems would come back.. However, he was correct.

Now on to the permanent cure after almost two years of dealing with this:

I had received many recommendations from people I know about a Chinese man that does acupuncture where I live (La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico). Raving about how he cured so and so, etc. I hesitated to go with him until I found out he's a real certified doctor from the Hong Kong Medical Institute and was also certified here in Mexico as a doctor. I thought, what the heck, let's see what he says.

What he said is VERY important and I hope everyone here reads this to learn now to diagnose correctly when it is a problem with your inner ear as a few have suggested in this thread.

He told me, "IF your dizziness is in a circle, then it would be your inner year, but that is NOT your problem, your problem is equilibrium, you go sideways". Then he explained:

"Your problem is the top back of your neck, right under the skull, those nerves affect equilibrium and eyesight" (also one of my symptoms, some lights bothered me or the sun hitting direct when driving).

He said it's mainly from two causes:

    a) lying or leaning for long periods of time on the back of your head / neck on not so soft surfaces (I used to do that for hours on the sofa with my laptop or reading).

    and

    b) bad posture and stress.

For me it was a combination of all (for years). I work all day at my computer.

The nerves get irritated, and cause muscle spasms cramping the neck muscles, choking the artery and not letting enough oxygen get to the brain.

He said "all those symptoms are lack of oxygen to the brain". (Very similar to what my friend doctor had told me. However, muscle relaxers only fix the problem temporarily).

This Chinese doctor put needles on the back of my skull and upper back of the neck to make the muscles release and also on my ankles to reset the nervous system and promote correct blood flow. He said the irritated nerve will eventually go back to normal and this will fix the root of the problem, the muscles won't cramp anymore but that I have to make an effort to maintain good posture and not sleep on the back of my neck for quite a while. I started sleeping on my side (the left side is recommended for health reasons).

And, man oh man, the effects were INSTANT. After that first session I felt great and it only took 6 sessions to cure me completely.

I found this forum when I was looking for answers, I decided to come back and share my experience. I've almost cried at times from happiness to have my life back after two years, I am so grateful. These symptoms at times were disabling. I can now drive and travel again, even the anxiety attacks have gone away.

My advice is look for a CERTIFIED acupuncture specialist in your area. Do your due diligence, get recommendations and if he's also a doctor even better. Also, maintain a positive attitude, you need to feel happy first in order to be able to come in contact with happy situations or a solution to your problem (Law of Attraction). Raise your vibration!

I wish you all get better again, IT IS POSSIBLE.

    God bless!!!

    Mike.

Hi rich. I just came across your post. I am feeling the exact symptoms. It's like I'm moving and it's more while sitting down. I feel better when in motion. I dont feel any pain or nausea . I do feel hungry but dont feel like eating and i dont enjoy my food anymore . Its makimg me miserable. My head feels blocked and my ears stuffed but ENTs have cleared me. So these are not typical vertigo symptoms I guess. My symptoms started after having a dental surgery. It's been 3 months now but I haven't recovered and anxiety and stress is making it worse. How did you treat this? I hope you're feeling better. Pls share your treatment plan. It's killing me.

Hi, check out if you have an intolerance to salicylates!! If you have, they flatten the tinny little hairs in your ears and cause very bad dizzy spells. I only get them when I turn in bed. Or sit up.. but from salicylates.
