      Hi Paula,

I too have been dealing with dizziness issues for quite a while - more than 5 years unfortunately.  I was interested in your going in for botox.  I had thought about that in the past, while dealing with neck pain.  What is the reason for you having that done?  Do you equate your dizziness with neck problems?  I know that when my neck gets horribly tight, I definitely experience more problems such as tinnitus, dizziness, and even vertigo on a couple occasions.  I was told by one neurologist that I have vestibular migraines.  Is that considered the same as silent migraines?

      I wish you the best,

Hi Nanci Ive had dizziness for over three years now.  Had endless ENT appointments, neuro surgeon and now two neurologists.  Ive had approx 8 different medications none of which worked or I couldnt tolerate but have left me still dizzy.  The only thing left is botox.  I did have it once before on one side at the migraine clinic in harley street.  It did seem to help my jumpy eyes over aperiod of time.  It was OK, the needle isnt that big.  So now Im having it properly as its supposed to let the trigeminal nerve rest and hence ease the headaches and the dizzies. But they want me to have it 3 days before my hols.  I hope I dont have any side effects.  I didnt last time but didnt have the amount Im having this time.

Forgot to say Nanci that yes I do have neck pain but that has been examined and diagnosed by orthopaedic consultant and its facet joint syndrome and I need cortizone injections to help the pain with that.

      Hi Paula,

Thanks for answering my question about the botox.  I don't think you and I are dealing with quite the same issues, other than feeling pretty lousy!  I was wondering about having botox injected into my neck, or at the base of the skull to try and relax those muscles which I think contribute to a lot of my dizziness.  My late husband was an Osteopath, and he seemed to be the only one who ever knew how to handle my problem.  I later saw a chiropractor who only made things worse, as I was told after having an MRI that I had a tear in a disc in my neck.  It was the chiro who had done rough manipulation on my neck that caused that - nothing else.  My husband used to do that gentle, stretching of my neck while I was lying down - sort of put his fingers under the base of my skull and pulled.  Ever had that done?  It seems so simple, yet I haven't been able to find another doctor to do it right.  That easy treatment would relax my neck muscles, and even feeling dizzy would be taken care of.  That is why after all is said and done, I do think that your neck can cause a myriad of problems.  I hope your treatment will leave you feeling better.

Hello I am so glad I have seen this post and read the threads.  I am beginning to feel so down about my dizziness.  I have been diagnosed with migrainious vertigo after tests for hearing, balance tests, MRI. I have been given Nortrypyptaline (20mg) but I am still getting my dizziness.  At first I thought the tablets were working as my spells were getting less frequent (or so I thought) until I had a particularly bad attack on Wed, I thought I was going to pass out, my heart rate was beating at 138 bpm, my mouth was dry I felt very weak and had to sit on a step (I had just been to weight watchers to get weighed, was leaving to go back to the car where my partner was waiting).  I don't know how I did it but I got up from the step and literally ran to the car and I was in a right state when I got in the car.  I have made an emergency appointment with my consultant for next wed as I am going on holiday abroad the week after and want to of course get it sorted before I go.  I wish I knew why I get this.  My head feels heavy, stuffy and if I bend my head down it feels like I am lifting up a very heavy ball when I lift my head back up.  I hope my consultant can suggest something otherwise I don't know what I'm going to do.  I sympathise with anyone who has something similar - you have to experience it to know what I'm talking about.

Hi Carina....yes that was the first step for me too.....nortripyline.....I actually went up to 30 mg a day....I also thought it was helping but it really didnt do much.......i also as you read went for test after test after test..........basicly all was good except the balance test showed a litttle something that could be MAV (migraines associated with vertigo)I went to see a neurologist and she put me on a medicine and when that didnt really work she referred me over to see a headach specialist  This was the only doctor tlhat helped me...The problem is the meds I am on take like 3 weeks to a month to really work and you cant just stop them....can be very serious withdrawals.......I even went for a nuclear stress test.......this started like 30 or more years ago .......but then it was just  maybe 3 times a year with some dizziness sometimes worse  until of course last september.....If you can go see a headache specialist......Remember this is a migrane without headaches  although you can get some headache where do you live?????  Dont know why these past few days I feel dizzy again but I am movinglol I felt very down too.......felt like my whole life literally changed over night.....I was this active person then went to sleeping literally all day and night because i couldnt even stand up.....stayed awake maybe 5 hours ........gained 12 pounds  which i lost now..........it will get better.... need to get you on the right meds....and meds are trail and error too!!!!!!please keep me posted

I will keep you posted, it is good to be able to talk to people in similar situations.  I live in the UK.  I am under a consultant for this and really hope there is a solution as I don't want this to take over my life.  I'm trying to make lots of notes on how it makes me feel so that I can show my consultant.  It seems to be movement by that I mean if I am walking, I seem to walk off balance as if I am being pulled to one side and then I can start to feel dizzy and unsteady, it can even happen if I am sitting still at my desk, I can sort of feel it coming on, it either gets worse ( like my episode on Wed) or subside but not going away completely - I have never experienced anything like this before but it has been going on and off for about a year now but because it has not gone away, it has prompted me to get further investigation ie starting with my GP then being referred to a specialist. I will let you know what she says about it.

If you find that pills don't help; lay down with something heavy on your chest and legs.

I've been dizzy and lightheaded for 8 years.

    Yoga helped slightly.
