Do Fentanyl patches actually work..

Been on Fentanyl for three weeks and I can honestly say the only feeling I get from them is feeling stoned..Extremely tired I could quite easily go to bed now...Obviously very little pain control, should I wait a bit longer or give up on it now. I need some decent pain relief now not in a months time..Thanks in advance jx

I was on a 75 mg Fentanyl patch for the past 4 1/2 years, now been increased to 100mg, but it doesn't seem to take away pain. Doesn't make me sleep much so I presume you can become immune to the patch after a time. Not sure about side effects, am on statins and mitzapine too x

i have spent almost 3 years on fentanyl patches and lozenges for breakthrough pain with hardly any relief..just severe addiction, which is hell on earth when withdrawing..worst 8 months of my life
fentanyl also surpresses your breathing, and for me fentanyl actually caused me to stop breathing on 4 occasions,i suffer with other medical conditions but thankfully i was in hospital hdu department so was brought back very quickly thank goodness,it changed me completley i was constantly off my face, couldnt comunicate properly, horrendous
and all because a pain specialist prescribed fentanyl for me as an inpatient and i then had to wait 23 months for outpatient appointment,i was basically not monitored just prescribed fentanyl when i ran out via my gp..i became a legal junkie
I am still in severe pain but not putting my husband, children and family through the heartache of watching me fight for my life because of a drug
i try to cope with slow release morphine as best i can
but please..avoid fentanyl
regards
sarah

I am so sorry to hear that the Fentanyl is making you feel this way. You should not be in pain nor should you feel stoned----most especially together. I have a severely damaged spine and take 200mcg per 72hrs along with 15 Loratab per month for any breakthrough pain. Several people have suggested that perhaps it is not the Fentanyl that is making you feel dismorphic, but the combination of it with the OTHER drugs your taking.
I personally know that the patch can make you feel very sleepy until your body adjusts to it. It also saves your liver much more so than pills because it enters the body through the skin and stores in your fat cells. Have your doctor look at ALL your meds and see what the culprit might be. I have found the patch to be a wonderful solution to my problem with the added benefit of sparing my liver. Everybody's body IS different, however, and what's good for me may not be for you. I pray you find the answer! Good luck!!!! Mjp
