Do you think wine is making my anxiety and depression worse?

Hi everyone, I've been drinking quite a lot of wine everyday. Do you think it will make me worse? It's just so tempting as it makes me feel so much calmer. I'm really worrying about it though. Does anyone else do the same.

    Hi caroline

Yes that happens with me, it is tempting to keep drinking, i think it may be more because its liquid thats calming us not the fact that its booze, our blood volume drops during menopause, due to constant weeing, so, we become thirsty, fatigued, lightheaded  off balance, dizzy etc, its because our blood pressure drops, so, drinking any sought of liquid will help bring it back up, but water is best, switch to decaf hot drinks, and plain water,  as i think ultimately booze will make us worse in the long run, apart from the fact we are risking becoming alcoholics.............ha

Alcohol affects me terribly the day after. I used to go out on a weekend, going back over 10 years ago now. I'd love the night out but I realised eventually that the alcohol was making me depressed and my anxiety was terrible. I realised this eventually and I haven't drunk alcohol for years now, apart from Christmas and/or special occasions. It actually scares me now to drink it. From my experience, it's best to avoid alcohol for several reasons. We feel bad enough as it is, I'd hate it to make you feel worse. Catch 22 really, we want a little relief but even that can have adverse effects too. I hope you can find something to help you x.

I totally agree. I was once a pretty moderate drinker with two or three times a week a few glasses of wine, I have cut that back and like you I noticed when I turned 50 it added to the depression and anxiety. I just stopped except for rare occasions.
