Do your anxiety symptoms last for days/weeks?

My physical symptoms of anxiety seem to never go away 😟 does anyone else have the same thing and is this normal? I'm sick of it and because it's always here I think there definately is something wrong with me! It's horrible living like this.
Also, when you start to obsess with one symptom (me chest pain mainly breast) I feel like it's actually something serious and its like I'm seeing more symptoms of it being serious. It's hard to describe but if you obsess that much always lookin etc if it possibly for you to make up new physical symptoms in your head?? I'm making myself go mad. Want my pain to
Go away and it won't which makes me more anxious.
Thanks for reading, Nicola xx

Hi Nicola,
You've just described exactly what I'm feeling. First my anxiety happened only on trains and in cars (random) and now for the last two weeks I've been feeling dizzy 24/7, pains, mild panic attacks. I laughed (because I could relate) when i read your part about being obsessed, I just went to the doctor today to get a full blood test as I had convinced myself that I must have something wrong because when you search symptoms you normally get a solid match for something
One thing I would like to ask others on here, who leads an unhealthy lifestyle? smoking/drinking etc... I'm 32 now and haven't exercised in a long time, I also definitely drink to much and smoke cigarettes. Hard part is I want to exercise but the dizziness is a big factor in me not starting.
Thanks for sharing. I felt better after reading your post and knowing I'm not alone

Not to cast too much negativity on it but I've had anxiety/social anxiety for my whole life and to make it worse the more I grew as a person the more intense it became! I don't know the answer but I älways have hope that there is one.

Yes it can unfortunatly, it is health anxiety. a fear of the fear. so every twinge , difficult breath magnifies.
You have to learn some breathing skills, guided meditation for relaxation.Â
try to dostract yourself from the symptoms.. i know thats easier said than done but it can help.
good luck stay strong and beat it x

Hi I'm a 37 year old used to be healthy and normal up until I had a "panic attack" a month ago. I still have lingering issues. Has your symptoms improved? I'm desperate for hope.

Ismael, I'm 32 now and had my first panic attack about 2 years ago. My "lingering issues" as you put it have not yet gone away, honestly they've probably magnified. I really don't think there is a cure for panic attacks, but you can learn to control them. I hope it was a one time only thing for you

Hi Nicole I been having very bad anxiety attacks lately I thought I was having a stroke or something I felt like i was going to die. I went to the hospital they say I'm fine . that its all in my mind but its still Scarry to be alone or drive alone . I've been so depress I don't feel like my self anymore. What is really helping me is reading everyones story on here . I have the same symptoms dizzy extremely nervous my hands would get sweaty I had to get out of my car for air. But there is something to learn here . we are all still here after an anxiety attack and we are not dying . what's been working for me in camomile tea I drink it at night and in the morning and its natural I hope it works for you .

Hey I'm Ashley and I'm expierncing some of the same things! A month ago was when it first started I was sitting in the couch and out of no where I got real light headed my heart started to beat out of my chest I felt as if I couldn't breath I started shaking and my whole body got cold. I went to the emergency room as fast as I could and they did blood work, EKG montitored my heart and everything was okay they wasn't sure what was going on and sent me home and told me to call first thing in the morning to set up family doctor. By the time I came home I was much better and felt back to normal up until 3 days ago I had another attack it wasn't as bad as the first one I tried breathing through it but it didn't seem to help I was having these attacks every 20 mins to a hour and finally calmed down at the end of the night. Next day I felt I a little nauseous shaky and still fast heart rate and went into a local urgent care where they did another EKG and told me everything was okay and sent me home with a anxiety medicine . it doesn't seem to work I do get a little relaxed but my body won't allow me to calm down I'm still having anxiety feeling like a attack is going to happen again . so I'm always anxious I'm feeling isolated I'm a mother of 3 and these attacks are really getting to me I don't know what to do . I'm so tired of feeling on the edge feeling light headed and naseuous all the time it's taking a toll on my well being any advice on what I could possibly do to help all of this?

Hi Ashley. I really wish there was a simply solution, but I haven't found one. I've been having panic attacks on and off for a few years now. I understand the struggle of feeling helpless. There are a number of different things you can do once you recognize when an attack is coming, such as breathing exercises and mindfulness meditation. There's a great app called "mindshift" that has helped me greatly. But as far as stopping them from happening, that's where things get tricky. I had to do a lot of self reflection after many panic attacks to recognize what triggers them and do my best to work through those situations. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. I haven't found a way to defeat them yet but I can tell you that they are controllable. I know it feels like you're going to die, believe me I know, but you wont. You should take comfort in knowing that there are MANY people who struggle with this daily, you're not alone. Just remember that the anxiety is a part of you, it doesn't define you. A lot rides on your perspective of it as well. It's kind of like heartburn. It's a very unpleasant experience but you recognize that it's heartburn and eventually it goes away. I find that approaching a panic attack with a sense of curiosity as opposed to fear makes it easier to deal with. It's important to remember that how you react to an oncoming attack determines it's severity. I've always used that analogy that it's like quicksand. The more you fight it, the faster it will pull you under. I would suggest that as soon as you feel it coming, immediately do something to divert your attention. Take a shower or read a book or listen to some music. Everything will be ok. Remember to keep your chin up and surround yourself with the things you love. Positive vibes definitely help and there's always someone on here that you can talk to. Hope you feel better soon. - Joe
