I have had anxiety for 15 years and I'm 29 years old, I have had fears of different things ov er  the years but my main problem is now i feel like i'm dying i get a tight pain in my chest feels like my breathing is short i can't breathe properly, my muscles ache and i have just a little pain in my chest where my heart is and in my left lung i'm now convinced i have lung cancer i work and own horses and i am constantly brushing them alot, I cough up a little bit of brown mucus and when i mean in a little bit i mean a little bit barely visible but i can notice it which makes me become anxious and panice, I read on the Internet that brown mucus could be a sign of dust i do have rhinitis which doesn't help as i can't breathe out of my nose properly which makes me breathe out of my mouth which as you know it's not normal to breathe out your mouth all the time does anybody else have a fear that they are gping to die from lung cancer or dying all the time that's my fear i'm convinced there is something wrong with me,  thank you so much looking to hear it looking forward to hearing your replis 😢😢😢

Hi sounds like you have "health anxiety"..lots of other sufferers on here & threads with similar topics. I have GAD & constantly worry about my health. All normal feeling for anxiety. We live in an age of constant information bombardment with the interenet & social media etc so it's an understandable condtion to have.

Try to datach yourself from the anxious feelings & recognise them for being unhelpful to you & always see the doctor if you are overly concerned with an ongoing condition.

    I wish you well.

Remember that one of the most common Physical symptoms you will get from anxiety is chest pain. I used to almost 'crack' my chest (hard to explain but I tensed the breastbone) all the time and had a constant chest pain because I was tensing it all the time. It's another classic self perpetuating thing. The pain is from the stress but you're stressed because of the pain. Every time you feel a twinge, remember that and break the cycle.

Hiya emily i suffer with health anxiety really bad, when i read ur post its a lot like me at the mo😕 ive been thinking ive got lung cancer for the past week, the doctor said i had bronchitis and gave me antibiotics...i finished those and my chest was still wheezing so im thinking omg ive got lung cancer and have ended up a wreck about it. The same as u i find myself struggling to breath and then i end up over breathing which leads to the upper half of my body hurting and then u start to think oh god is it coz of the lung cancer, ive also been coughing up phlem which is a bit brown (i do also smoke around 10 fags) which doesnt help I know, alls i can say is the chances of u having lc are minimal ur breathing will be out of sorts coz ur anxious and the chest pains ur having are muscular coz ive had them and the doctor told me they are muscular, i know its hard coz im the same and its hard to get these intrusive thoughts out of ur head, im also only 27yr old!! Its an awful.thing is this anxiety 😕 hope ur ok x

It's so hard isn't it, I can give advise but I seem to not take my own advise, I have 3 beautiful children and I don't want to be like this because of them,I work hard and have a very busy life but I really need to stop this crap😡😡😡😡😡😡

I'm exactly the same, I don't have kids but I have a decent quality of life, and I would consider myself happy. For me, although it may annoy the crap out of people, I talk about it til I've run out of things to say. I can always rationalise it better when I can hear myself say it rather than listening to the crazy anxious voice inside my head!x

brown mucus is your body getting shut of the dust,i was a coal miner for 20 years and used to cough up black dust daily, now i'm out of the industry the black mucus is no more, wear a dust mask when brushing your horses if its causing you anxiety,i guarantee you will see a difference.

Thank u Dean, it's just very minut but I can see it if everyone else can't if you get me bit it does scare me, I even bought a oxygen saturation machine that doctors put on your finger to do my oxygen sats when it's 99% I'm happy but when it's 97% I'm in bits and then I start panicking, it has helped me when I feel like I can't breathe because the stats are okay but when it goes below a certain level I'm very anoxious 😕😕😣😣 x

carbon dioxide displaces oxygen and when you are nervous you breath more havily so produce more carbon dioxide which will lower your oxygen level....so throw the machine away, its making you anxious.:-)

hi Emily, if it is any help to you i too cough up brown mucus most days- i smoke 50 a day- i recently had my annual physical which included chest x-rays and all was fine- so i dont think you have anything to worry about - it is just your lungs disposing of any crap by coughing it up, its perfectly natural- sorry i cant give you any advice on your other symptoms. best of luck

I hate it that one of the most common Physical symptoms you will get from anxiety is chest pain. I already have complications in my thoracic spine which cause enough pain as it is so its a vicious circle.

I remember being told to do breathing exercises which with pain ribs and around to spine really made the pain worse.

Hi Emily I'm sorry to hear that you have been going around the viscious cycle of anxiety for so long, have you ever tried CBT?

I'm 35 & have been suffering from health anxiety for the past couple of years now and although I still have my days I found that CBT has really helped to rationalise my costraphic thoughts which used to spiral out of control.  CBT for me has definately helped change my thought process and this has helped reduced the amount of pain attacks I have for sure.

To answer your question, yes I feel the way you do on a regular basis.  I feel as though I'm not breathing right not getting enough air and as an ex smoker often drive myself crazy with thoughts of lung cancer etc.  In fact out of all the things that trigger my anxiety the breathing is definately the worse for me as I get really scared and worked up.

I recently downloaded the app from this website and again this is something that I have found quite useful you can refer to it as and when you need to and it helps you with your breathing and helps to rationalise/take your mind off your thoughts when your having a moment.

As for you I'm sure it's just anxiety that your suffering from your symptoms are typical anxiety symptoms and we are famous for over analysing etc.  I wish you all the best & like i said CBT is definately worth a try x
