Does Anyone Else’s Attacks Last Days?

I have only recently been diagnosed with anxiety/panic disorder. My attacks are lasting for around a week at a time. I can’t eat, I go days without sleep, which I realise makes the attacks worse. Does anyone else experience this and if so, what helps?

I've experienced this a lot. In fact, the first month I was told I had heightened anxiety, I seemed to never STOP having an attack. I constantly felt my heart palpitations. Thank goodness, I'm much better now. But I do have "phases," like I can go a whole week without anxiety, but then one bad night of sleep might leave me with back-to-back panic attacks for 3 days. I've just learned to accept that these won't kill me. When it was at its worst, I saw a therapist and was prescribed some pills to take if needed (which I only took for sleep, since that was my biggest aggravation). I've gotten to a good routine of yoga and/or meditation daily. I feel that even keeping my anxiety down a little prevents it from escalating and trickling over a few days.

Thank you so much for responding. It’s becoming debilitating as it means me having to take time off work.  This in itself causes anxiety. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and wish you all the best in combating this.

Yes mine has been about a week and a half. I experience various symptoms which only make me worry more. I know it sounds like a cliche but just do stuff that takes your mind off it, like reading or watching a movie. If this doesn't help you may need medication. Good luck, just try and focus on something other than what you are worried about.

Thank you for responding. I have recently been given mirtazapine and I’m hoping this helps keep the anxiety at bay and makes me sleep a little.  The thing that makes it more difficult for me is that I only begin worrying once I get an attack. Really appreciate you responding and I wish you good luck also.

Hi, I’m 32 and have struggled with anxiety for about 6 years. Im a single parent and live alone with my young son. I have noticed that my anxiety heightens the week before my period and is constant. I lose sleep, I am agitated, snappy, and what I worry about is my health. I have had countless nights where I have stayed awake all night through fear of thinking I’m not going to wake up..... typing out I know I am being silly but I’m having it right now and the feelings are real and not as easy to get rid of.  I lost my Nan to lung cancer very quickly and I find I have shortness of breath type symptoms (probably as I’m asthmatic) and the only thing that helps is my hot water bottle for comfort. Does anyone else suffer leading up to their cycle? I’ve only noticed the pattern the last few months x
