Does anyone else with hiatus hernia get weird sensation in throat?

I've read on here about people getting severe chest pains and aches and sore throats - I get the sore throats and sometimes feel like someone is standing on my chest - but by far the strangest thing is this feeling I get very often - nearly every day - which feels like someone has put a pipe down my throat and wedged it there (feels like the camera is down me in endoscopy again). I can swallow ok - it's just this heavy uncomfortable feeling?!

I can't do PPI's either - been put on ranitidine now - but it's not as effective - and I was told this before I was put on it. I am looking into the op - and being realistic - I may have a fight on my hands! But I find the meds don't really do much for me,

i too suffer Same symptoms not all the times but get food stuck in throat and at times feel as though I'm choking.
also get a feeling I have a golf ball type thing stuck in my throat but on expelling know that it's just trapped air.
it s very disconcerting and scary but having had it investigated can assure you it does not stop you swallowing although it is at times painfull to swallow and feels like a tight ridge of pain round my neck (that's scary)
but after exhaustive tests I know it's only trapped gas from the hernia relaying into your throat your not alone ask anyone with a hiatus hernia at some point they all get throat and chest symptoms.try not to stress that makes it worseregard Boho

I'm not on PPI's anymore - on ranitidine - and I've had this for quite some time now. Seem to get it more often - and I can't blame it on weights - maybe cleaning the bathroom today :-) who knows?! Eating and drinking don't make it go away - it comes and goes as it pleases......

I have been getting fed up to the back teeth with the chest pains, neck and arm pains and having to sleep propped up so three days ago I decided to try out a new approach to my HH, reducung medication to just Gaviscon as needed. I've reduced my caffeine to one cup of (proper) coffee each morning but the real key seems to be drinking a mug of hot water with a lemon slice just before bed, and another one first thing in the morning. The one time I forgot, I had the acid reflux back within the hour. I'm feeling loads better so I'm going to keep on with it

Will definately give the lemon a try - I gave up everything except 2 'dishwater' coffees a day - sad thing is most of the things I really love seem to be an acid trigger :-( I actually don't know what had triggered my throat to feel like this today - can't blame it on PPI's as I'm not on them anymore!

I have to see a surgeon in December - Haven't had the 24hr monitor - but I'm sure that will be done at some stage. I am seeing this guy as my original consultant didn't listen to a lot - and tried to talk down to me as if I didn't know my own body! Let me know how you get on!

Good luck with that! I have to wait until December - but I feel a bit happier I am having a second opinion - the first guy was a locum - and was like talking to a brick wall! Fortunately my GP is wonderful and sorted a date with a surgeon in another hospital. Do let me know how you go - I have my fingers crossed for you!
