My 18 year old daughter has had the condition for 4 years. She felt her heart was missing a beat. It turns out that this does happen with her ( & my mother) and is nothing to worry about for them. The doctor told her that because of the Tietzes when she is in pain she is more aware of her heart as she is concentrating on her chest .

Yep, had costo for 6 months, finally got rid of it about 6 months ago. Every day my resting heart rate was elevated and breathing was harder, nothing I did could get rid of it. To be completely honest, I can't even remember the day it stopped happening, it just sort of ceased to exist..

I saw a chiro weekly for awhile, that certainly helps, there a lot of remedies out there, don't let it control your life, and remember it's not too serious (i.e. you're not gonna die).

    Hey!

I have been diagnosed with costo in July and it has been a roller coaster!

I do notice I will get random episodes of racing heart or heart palpitations. Im going to a cardiologist to get some tests done because those heart episodes are pretty scary. I also realized that it is very stressful and scary to have chest/ rib pain/ back pain on a daily basis as it can raise cortisol levels.. Which can lead to heart palpatations/ racing heart..

Did you get to the cardiologist? I have been having these pains now for a few weeks. Wish they would go away.

    Hello,

I am a 19 year old female with chronic anxiety and stress induced costochondritis. Costo pains and inflammation can tend to fluctuate in different areas on your ribs and around your cartilage. Because the costosternal points in your chest are inflammed. The inflammation brings on anxiety attacks which can cause palpitations and those heart attack like symptoms. This is completely normal for costochondritis suffers so do not panic! Panic makes the pain worst. Do you get tenderness or pain when you touch your chest/ribs? Or a feeling like your chest is knotting together and about to bring on palpitations?

I press around my chest to make sure I do feel the pain. I can't help it. Psychosomatic maybe? I don't know. I just worry all the time...still. it's been several weeks since the pain started.

Yes I know exactly how you feel. I take meds for  anxiety that help alot. I agree anxiety makes it worse. My dr just recently diagnosed me with Fibro myalgia as well. Anti inflammatories. soft cold ice packs, heating pads, Arnica gel all can help you. One of the tell tale signs of Costro or any kind of muscle inflammation or bone pain is pressing on it and it will hurt. Its good to know its not life threatening Thank God!!! hang in there. Camamile tea also can help you to stay calm.

I have also been diagnosed with costochrontitis...I still freak out windering if it's something else. The stress of it all is exhausting. I have been to the ER twice thinking I was having a heart attack. They did blood work, x-ray, and EKG the first time and then repeated those and added a CT with contrast dye of my heart the second time. I have been to have a stress test with two more EKGs after that and I'm still not convinced I'm ok. I can press on my chest and I feel the pain it's tender mostly around the breast bone. I also have pulling in my neck, upper back, and horrible collarbone issues. My chest pain only lasts for a few seconds at a time but sometimes it comes and goes several times a day. I notice a huge correlation between stress as well...and panic. I am now in anti depressants as well. sad

Lynsey,My symptoms sound almost exactly the same as yours. My heart feels like it's pounding so hard at times but the pounding is not present when I have chest pain. I am so sore under my left breast and along my rib cage underneath my left arm out. When press on my ribs they are so tender. My symptoms started two weeks ago and I've been to the ER and have also seen my PCP. I've had a ton of tests ran and everything has came back fine but there is definitely something going on with me. Hopefully you are better now. If so how long did it take for this to go away? Any tips? Thanks!

Hi, my pain eased in about 10wks but I still have a slight tender breast bone 4 months on, I still have the strange feeling every now and then but I remind my self it's costochondritis and nothing serious which helps calm me down! Try not to worry as it doesn't help and I just took pain killers anti flam ones, hope this puts your mind at rest take care, xxx
