Does sertaline work??

Is there anyone who had been on this drug and feel it works for them / doesn't ?

I've been on it now for nearly a month and I feel really bad still, I thought I would feel a difference by now ?

I've got suicdle thoughts, no life worth, lathargic, over eating ,needing something sugary to eat, and worrying, anxiety, panic, very depressed, it's just getting out of hand now sad

Anybody feels better / worse ?

    Hi Hollie,

It took me about six weeks before I felt anything.  I'm at 150mg right now, and the med is boosting my mood just a bit.  But even a little bit feels like a huge relief!  I'll see my doc in two weeks, and he will most likely want to increase my dosage up to 200mg.

Hang in there!  It gets better.  Be sure to tell your doc what's going on.  Your doc might want to increase the dosage, or switch meds.

      Thanks for your reply xxx

      6 weeks you've been on them ... I'm into 100mg now 4 weeks ...

I'm going to speak with my doc Tuesday & ask for some advice ... I'm just so worried that they aren't working for my & I'm worried I'm getting worse sad

I haven't heard good things about this drug .. It seems to not be working well in people or taking along time, to show little improvement ..

    Hollie my dear

I am very sorry to hear that you are having a bad time and that sertraline hasn't kicked in.   I am on 100mg of sertraline and have been on the drug for 6 months.  I have had my bad times but for about a month now I feel on top of the world.  The side effects of this drug can be horrendous with insomnia being at the top of the list.

I didn't feel much difference after 6 weeks so my gp upped my dose from 50mg to 100mg and I started to feel a difference.  Maybe you should go to your gp and ask to get your dosage increased.

Your life is worth living,  you are going through a bad phase and you will get through this.

I have always been a big worrier and I see things far worse than they actually are. When you feel worried and anxious about something you should try to talk to someone you trust and let them put things in to perspective for you.

Try and do things and be in the company of those that make you feel good about yourself.

    Take care

    Sukhi

      THANKYOU for your reply, xxxx

I will stick with it & talk to my gp..

I've isoclated myself away from the world, I live in my bedroom now sad

I have so much anxiety & panic when I go into shops or see people I know & avoid these situations at all cost .. It's social anxiety .. This has left me at 30 year old, with no life ... I just live in my bedroom at my fathers house, no friends & can only tolerate family when I'm having an " ok " day ... It's awful this disorder or whatever I have ...

I only go out when i have to ... I really hope these kick in soon .. I really need to start living life again xx

      THANKYOU for listening ... XX

Hollie, stick with it.  You can get over this. Go to your gp asap and tell them exactly how you feel. Sertraline is very good for social anxiety.  I feel very sociable as a result of them. They will kick in very soon xxx

It works. Don't worry about that. It takes us ages yo reach breaking point, and we don't know we're on the road until it hits us. Sertraline takes time to kick in..... But it will..... Gradually. You're just gonna feel s**t until you benefit from it..... But let it work. Read "The Happiness Trap" by Russ Harris whilst you're waiting for Seetraline to kick in. It's a great drug.

Hi Hollie, I'm on my 6th week now, the first few weeks were awful, dreadful side effects, but now I'm feeling good, best i have been for years. I have to say though, please talk to your doc, maybe Sertraline isn't for you - I've tried a LOT of other anti-depressants and they didn't work, gave up trying for a long time but it all got so bad I tried this and it works for me, and I'm so much better. Maybe you need a stronger dose. I hope you feel better soon. I've been where you are and it's a horrible place - worthlessness, wishing I could die, hating life and everyone but mostly myself. I have found this forum so helpful too, you're not alone, we're all here wishing you well. Take care. Wendy.
