Does the injection work in obtaining an erection

Posted , 9 users are following.

After being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018, I underwent the Robotics procedure to have my prostate removed. The operation was a success as the cancer is gone and I am able to get erections. My erections is not rock hard as it used to be before the prostate removal and many times I struggle to have an erection at all. I have tried using a pump but don't really see an improvement. Does anyone know whether erections return to 100% normal with time? Also, how effective is the injection in obtaining obtaining a 100% hard erections? Furthermore, is the injections bad for your health. Sorry for my English as it I not my home language. Any advise and help will be appreciated.

I think you are, doing well but wonder if you have tried Viagra and the alternatives. I went for hormone treatment and a short course of RT and find the tablets work quite well. I do also have a pump but not keen on it.

    All the best, Richard

I had my prostate removed to treat cancer by robotic surgery in 2018. The nerves that control erections were also removed as part of the operation. Although I recovered good penile sensitivity I have lost my ability to have erections. I found the pump useful to prevent penile atrophy but it didnt help me sexually. I started using injections to get erections six months after the operation and find this works for me. I can control the hardness of the erection by varying the dose injected. It took a bit of trial and error to get the right dose but I am finding injections work well for me. You have done well to retain some level of erection. I wish you every success. Tim

Thank for adding your experience to the discussion Tim. Was there a reason for not attempting to spare your nerves during the surgery?

      Cheers, Richard

      Hi Richard

Yes buddy, I did try Viagra, but it gave me terrible headaches so I stop it. Thanks for the input

Did you try the alternatives, which are Cialis and Levitra, they may have different names dependent on country?

I use Levitra having not got much of a result with Cialis. I take a 10mg tablet and it seems to last for many hours. In the beginning I had mild heart burn for a time after many hours and took something for this but not any more!

I suggest to anyone to try the alternatives to see find out what works best for you. Cheers, Richard

      Hi Tim

Thank you for the info Richard. No, I have not tried either of these. In fact, I have only tried Viagra(which gave me headaches) so I will do some research on Cialis and Levitra before going back to the doctor. I actually prefer doing some research before going to the doc rather than just believing everything he says so thank you for the info - appreciate!

My cancer was very close to the nerves on one side which seemed a good reason to me. I was less happy that the local policy was not to offer nerve sparing surgery to me because of my age- then 68. I thought it should be determined by level of sexual vitality - I was still sexually active and functioning well. However, as the cancer had turned aggressive after a period of several years of active monitoring I didn't think it was a time to delay by arguing with the current policy. On balance I think this was probably the right decision and I still manage an acceptable level of sexual activity. The longer I remain cancer free - the more reconciled I feel to the losses involved. VIAGRA works for many but I had some side effects that I was uncomfortable with. The injection method may be a little cumbersome but is very effective. It is important to follow directions concerning dosage ,frequency and cautions about mixing ED meds with the process.

    Hi Martin

First I apologize for the spelling mistakes (it is not my first language), they operated on me in 2018. I have used the pump (with no apparent results), viagras (they give me a headache), and the injections I have to admit were the most effective (the first erection lasted me in full condition for 4 hours) is somewhat cumbersome, but effective, I do not usually use them very often (due to lack of occasion) but I think they are very effective, I do not get a natural erection by myself (and sometimes it affects my mind) but they do not produce any side effects, another thing would be to talk about the sensation of ejaculation ,,,,,

I agree with RichardKen. Why not try meds before injection?

I used meds and they worked.

A friend was told by his urologist to have injections. He does, every now and then

and says they work. I don't doubt him, but why bother is meds do the same job with

    less pain and anxiety?

If meds don't do the job, then that's a whole other matter.

in my experience the injections work about as well as you want them to and sometimes too well you can overdo it so you will have to find out what is right for you by experimenting with different doses gradually working yourself up. a rock hard erection does not sound too bad... but a rock hard erection that lasts 3 to 4 hours it's not as fun as it sounds... good luck to you

Thank you Mark_fast fir your comment. I have been to the pharmacy to procure the injection as I am convinced it will work given all the feedback I received on this group. Pharmacies however are out stock due to the COVID pandemic, so sadly I will have to wait. Greetings
