I went to the doctor for the second time at the end of last week after i was previously prescribed an antifungal cream that didn't work, she prescribed a steroid cream which cleared up the inflammation within a few days.

So this is simply, and exposure to an irritant of some kind that is causing this. If you are using an anti-fungal this would suggest you have had recent unprotected sexual contact. Most commonly you get yeast or bacterial infections from unprotected vaginal, or bacterial from unprotected anal.
What you can also get is that the skin of the head and foreskin of the penis develops an intolerance to anything that it is regular contact with, such as soaps, shower gels and suchlike, skin creams, baby oil and that kind of stuff used as lubes or moisturisers.
Basically, you have to remove the contact with anything that can be sustaining the irritation, and simply use water only to clean your penis with, then make sure it is completely dry ......

I have a very similar problem. I had multiple visist at doctors and tried various medications:
Nothing helped. Please share your thoughts and recommendations when you have got rid of this problem!
