Dosage of Sertraline

Hi.  I was prescribed the above today and told that I would be on a low dose however when I went to collect the prescription I noticed that 50mg doesn't seem to be low to me.  Usually this type of medication comes in 20mg doses and anyone I've known taking it has always been on a lower dose.  I refused the prescription as I want to speak to my Doctor again before I decide whether or not I'm going to take it.   Does anyone have any experience of this drug?

I still haven't started it yet guys.  I managed to take my 8 steroid tablets for my Asthma this morning with my friend here supervising me but the Sertraline was a bit too much for me.  I'm thinking about starting it next week now.  I finish the Steroids on Sunday and I have a DR appt and a job interview on Monday so I won't start it on Monday.  Looks like I'll have to gear up for Tuesday now.  I may take the odd diazepam (which he also Prescribed) in the meantime if I feel the anxiety running away with me.   Thank you for all your support.  It means a great deal. x

I know you are right Weenett and I used to be a strong person but the last few years have seen her go and a replacement weaker person is now in place.   I worked myself up so much about taking the Prednisolone which I feel is the priority at the moment so I can't put my stomach and anxiety/stress levels up further by trying another med.  I do need to work up to this.  I first got prescribed this medication 5 years ago and it's only now that I am ready to attempt it.  I had a blood test 7 weeks ago.  The GP asked me to have it 18 months ago and it's taken me this time to work up to it.  I need to do this in my own time.  I don't want to go to a big interview (it's a long process) and be feeling anxious so that's why I'm not taking it until Tuesday.  I can also get a bit more reassurance from the GP on Monday as well.  I do appreciate your support but my anxiety is absolutely awful.  It's been controlling me for years and I've coped without meds.  The progress I've made in the last 7 weeks is incredible so I'm hoping I'm on the road to overcoming it but I will have to do it at my own pace.

Hey Craftylady, don't beat urself up about it. U do seem to be taking a lot of meds at once. If u feel it's not the right time, then go with it. We're here for you when u r ready. I haven't felt any side effects whatsoever yet but still building up to 50mg!
