Doxycycline has ruined my life!

Hi all. I started a 2 week cycle of doxy for a tick bite - no other symptoms just had a tick in my leg. I was put on 100mg x 2 daily for 2 weeks. 4 days in I thought I was going to pass out and I called the pharmacy and they said to stick on it. I made it to day 8. Since then I’ve had sever heartburn, chicest and back pain, burning in throat and now diarrhea. )sorry, gross) anyway went to my pcp and 2 GI docs. I was put on a prescription Prilosec ( that caused the toilet issues I think) and probiotics (which I already taken previously) and have had blood work, given samples (fun) and had an endoscopy last week. ( Heaven forbid they call me with results of the biopsies ) anyway all blood stool and various other tests were ok. I was told take magnesium ( more toilet issues) and otc antacids vs the stronger ex versions.  Anybody else going through this kind of mess from that devil drug doxycycline ? I’m a wreck and feel like this will never end. I should have yanked the tick and moved on with my life - but noooo I go to a clinic and get prescribed the antibiotic formulated by Satan  himself !

Yes, i agree some tablets may have certain side effects that affect some people in different ways and not for the better!

I had an issue and visits to hospital. A triage doctor told me. "No drug is worth continuing to take if it doesn't take away the problem its prescribed to do without adding or causing the problem to worsen and should then be stopped! Take care all the best x

Yes, I will agree Doxycycline is one of Satan' drug. I am a USMC disable veteran for 23yrs. Most of my medical treatment is from the VA hospital in East Orange, NJ. In 2017 I had an issue that just happen from the results of wearing non-waterproof combat boots during my active duty service. I develop a bad case of athletic foot, toe fungus, callouses, and eczema , etc. years after being discharged. Several visits in the past as well the present.

Well anyway, in 2017 I developed an infection in my left toe that immediately raised concern. I went to the East Orange VA walk in clinic to be seen by my primary physician. They recognized immediately it was infected and without asking me what kind allergies I have another physician suggested to my primary physician to prescribe me Doxycycline for two weeks same regimen. Then sent me home. After three or four days later I noticed massive swelling in both my feet and hands. I immediately went the E.R. to inform a doctor. When I arrived I was seen by a doctor who had no idea what do, but consulted with my doctor who came to the ER and suggested that continue taking medication as prescribed 2 pills twice a day for 14 days. So I did. A few more days later I notice no change in the swelling and continued to swell. My whole body was going through a horrible experience. I return a second time to the ER same thing was told by doctor continue taking pills. It was three days later I return back to the ER demanding to be admitted because from the 1st visit I knew something was wrong. Thick layers of skin started forming on my feet and hands. My hands were hard, dry scally and stiff felt like concrete. Yellow fluid was draining from my ears, under both armpits as well as other area of my body.

I was not feeling good by no means. When I was finally admitted I was seen by panel of student doctors and other specialists who discover that I was experiencing Steven Syndrome, a very rare but serious condition. This was the results of the Doxycycline. They started treating like an experiment wanting to take pictures of how horrible I look my feet, my hands. I was furious and scream at the doctors several times that I'm not to be treated like a study specimen, just treat the issue and send me home. After a week and half I was sent home for three weeks with a home nurse to continue care.

Over the course of a long three weeks visits by nurse dressing my feet and hands, I watched layers of dead skin being removed from my feet and hands. My feet and hands were like a newborn baby in the end.

The doctors did not want to admit they prescribed

a drug that can cause what I experienced, but later realized I had Steve Johnson Syndrome which was the results of Doxycycline. Just last year in August I was admitted three times for a similar issue involving the same foot, but was not given Doxycycline. I given several antibiotics that was immediately stopped because I begin experiencing the same thing which has prevented me from working.
