Dreaming..Peri/Meno or Not??

Hi Ladies,

I believe I have posted about this before, but I can't remember. I've had many things happen in the last 5 months in regards to this hormone imbalance thing. I have been having some vivid, crazy, and some scary dreams. I've had nightmares before but this seems to be in excess lately and immediately after I fall asleep. I never have a full night sleep, I either wake several times or I wake around 3-4 am and can't get back to sleep.

I've been very tired lately which is new. Even though I don't sleep well at night, I'm usually pretty ok during the day. Does anyone else have this issue with dreams? I thought it may be side effects from my meds or a connection to this peri/meno. What do you all think?

I JUST told my husband this exact thing! Lately, I've been have the strangest, most vivid dreams. I suspect that it is hormonal peri-menopausal stuff because, let's face it, what isn't? But, yes, what you describe is exactly what I've been experiencing. I haven't had a period since November, but these latest dream related symptoms coincide with when I would normally be having a menstrual cycle. That's what makes me believe it's hormone related, as well.

So nice to know you aren't alone, isn't it?

Yes it is nice to know I'm not alone. I'm still having cycles but it's very light and I noticed that I really dream when it's time for it to come. I don't dream as much throughout the rest of the month. I'm starting to believe it's hormonal as well.

Yeah. I've had some weird dreams too. Mostly an hour before I get up though. I barely get sleep. Mostly from night sweats waking me up every couple of hours. So I approx. get 3-4 hours a night. Getting used to the lack of sleep these days. Someone said on this forum that lemon water with honey and sage helps with night sweats. Haven't tried it yet, but I may try it tonight.

    Hi Jamie,

Yes and wake me up as soon as I get off to sleep.

I had them on and off during peri, then when I started the HRT, about 10 to 14 weeks in I had one almost every night.

    It's settled down now though.

I surely hope it settles down. Sometimes they are scary and it can stay on my mind ramping up my anxiety. Then again everything seems to ramp up my anxiety these days.

      Hi Jamie,

For most things and I think I had all of them.

Sleep is still not brilliant but was perfect for the first 8 nights on estrogen.

I have really sore shoulders left worse than right and it hasn't changed that.

I had other pains that I have not had since starting.

Lifted depression made anxiety go and good libido again.

I'd take it just for those. But loads of other good stuff I don't feel hot don't have to go to the loo so much.

Constipation I can cope with without laxatives.

Memory is great my family no longer have to finish my sentences for me. I've stopped saying um um all the time.

Driving the car is better I was becoming a little old granny.

Most things got better in first couple of weeks.

I had symptoms return with a vengeance for two weeks then by the time I'd been on it about 10 weeks settled down.

No side effects and I've lost 7 Lbs without trying.

That is excellent that it's working out for you. One day I will get some help. Until then I try to do all I can to take care of myself. I've only had one appointment with the new the GP and GYN. The the new GP seems to be a pretty good listener. I'm not too sure about the GYN yet, I saw the midwife instead of the doc. She said I might be peri but she doubts it because my cycle was coming every 23 days now its every 27 or 28 days and she says thats normal and when I described my symptoms and anxiety she suggested I see a psych. So I'm thinking of finding a new GYN once again.

Tanks for replying zigangie...i am 48 and had odd symptoms for last 3 years but the last 4 months they have ramped up. And this cycle has been horrendous. I started getting anxiety and flat moods about 4 months ago and the odd hot flush. But i managed. But now omg....i am drenched with any activity headaches constipation and having anxiety through the roof. Just had more bloods done (its been a year since last ones) and going to have a mammogram and pelvic ultrasound. I am just praying the bloods finally confirm the hormones. The doctor I saw seemed really helpful for once...i have never thought about HRT but after this week i would eat camel poop if it helped lol

Hi Jamie..my new doctor said even though I am still regular ...24-33 day cycles now..used to be 28 on the dot...i am definitely in peri. Hallelujah...finally a doctor that has listened and given help. Had new bloods done today and thinking of HRT as it seems to help others. She said main symptoms of peri is the flushing and mood swings....and i have got both of those in spades! Got to have a mammogram first but hopefully it will help.

I am so glad you got a doc who listened and is willing to help. I'm still searching for one of those.

I know jamie...i was at my wits end this week...i didnt want to go to the doctor but felt like i was having a breakdown. I walked in to her...and it was a new surgery and doc i hadnt seen...told her what was happening and said i would take antidepressants anything because the symptoms were so bad. She said straight away peri...and moodswings were def part of it. I still feel horrible today...dont know how i am going to work weds as i feel so bad. Bring on HRT if it gives me some normality again sad

I totally understand. I've been feeling ok the past few days and today I feel little weird, a little doom, and I just want to cry. But I'm not giving into it. My period is due in another week so I'm not surprised at feeling this way.

The physical symptoms can be frightening, but these mental ones on a whole nother level.

I know Jamie...I could handle the physical but these plunging mood swings are so hard. I can't believe so many women are suffering this and we just have to 'suck it up' sad

Have you thought about trying a progesterone cream? That would have been my next move if they had been unhelpful.

I've read a lot about it and it seems to help a lot of women with their symptoms.

Well it has helped me stopping the anxiety was a plus. They m make out it's only going to help with the hot flushes.

I didn't have those I was just hot all the time that soon went. But so many other things my memory for one.

It's nice not having people finish my sentences for me.

I will have to look into it to see what's safe to take with hypertension. Hopefully I will get some help soon. Other than that I just try to deal with it with some lifestyle changes.
