I have VA. What can you do besides hormones? It causes me to have utis and yeast infections. Not to mention other problems.

I managed for a year or two with coconut oil and vitamin e oil (applied inside the vagina) and took sea buckthorn oil (scientifically proven to improve the condition of the vaginal wall cells, but not improve lubrication). And tonnes of silicone lube during intercorse. But gradually these things became nit enough and I had to use oestrogen cream (inserted into the vagina). I resisted as long as I could, but succomed to the hormones in the end.

We have to try different things to meet our physical needs that works. I guess I will try the hormone cream. But, they only have me on it short time.

I have used the Estrace for 3 nights. But, now I have a light yellow discharge. I don't think it is the cream, it is white. I hope not another infection. What is my body doing? I had a wise lady tell me the other day we are told sometimes about sex when we are teenagers. Thenabout child birth. But, somewhere the medical or somebody forgot to tell us EVERYTHING about menopause. That is a huge chapter in our lives.

I agree with that lady... I had a total hysterectomy at 32 stayed on premerin till age 40 the 2 years of compounding estrogen and then I stopped and not one Dr. ever said I had to be on it the rest of my life. So then 3 months after I turned 50 I started having itching and burning every so often went to gyno they said it was yeast infection and gave me diflucan funny thing it never got better just progressively worse then went to a gyno Dr that's a women's specialist for meno who kept saying it was yeast only to find out that the crazy b***h who is the top Dr for menopausal women doesn't believe in hormones never once told me it was due to low levels of estrogen and that it was due to atrophy. As it got progressivley worse and coconut oil wasn't cutting it. I started looking into compounding found a pharmacy near me and they hooked me up with a Dr that would write the script. And only then was I told it was atrophy and that even tho I had hysterectomy at 32 you still go thru some sort of menopausal symptoms at a certain age and who told me this? The freaking compounding pharmacist not the Dr. Oh and I've only been on the estrogen for a couple of months and that didn't take off easy either because I was so dry I had to stop and restart at a lower dose. Drs suck once you reach a certain age your more or less on your own. Sorry for ranting lol

I am learning as I go (I think) about va until the the wise lady explains how your vagina can get smaller due to all this. That popped my bubble! But, everything you might have to do to take care of it. She had been through it. Where is the manaual? I guess I did not ask enough questions at the doctors' office. It just makes me crazy.

      Hi Melinda

If you were diagnosed with Atrophic Vaginitis the doctors start you on 2 weeks of Estrace vaginally then start with Vagifem vaginal tablets 2xweek.  It took me several weeks to finally feel normal again.  As I mentioned earlier I will probably have to do the Vagifem for the rest of my life as if you stop it the discomfort starts all over again and my doctor confirmed that this is something that I will have to do to feel normal.  It just amazes me that we did not know about VA and the discomforts until we have had to experience it.....I have a very good GYN but years ago during check up he said to me you have Atrophic Vaginitis and gave me a prescription for Vagifem.  He really didn't explain what it was that I had.  Well I did the Vagifem for a couple of weeks then I stopped taking it as I wasn't feeling pain (actually I never felt discomfort).  That was my mistake of stopping the Vagifem.....I must have been in the early stages of the Atrophic Vaginitis.  As a year went on I started to get UTIs.....after the UTIs I started to feel like I still had UTI so went to the doctor and found out the discomfort was from the Vaginitis that's when I had to start with the Estrace for 2 weeks then began the Vagifem.......that took weeks for me to feel good again.  I am hoping to hear good things about this Mona Lisa treatments and hoping that insurance will pay for it in the near future and hoping if it works that I won't have to use the Vagifem.....for now it is the only thing that will give me quality of life.

thank you all for sharing.....so important.

      Blessings

      Wendy

Vagifem has not been mentioned to me one time. Estrace with no refills my daughter is a rn. She has given me more info than the gyn. If I don't use this I will have more utis and more yeast infections, not to mention the other problems. I will be seeing my nurse practioner next month. Hopefully, she can help me more rx wise. This can drive you crazy.

I am glad we can talk openly about female medical issues finally somewhere.

      Thanks.
