Dry ejaculation

My husband is Type 1 diabetic and was also recently diagnosed with an enlarged prostate. Diabetes affects blood pressure - raising it, and it may in some men cause erectile dysfunction. Tamsulosin Hydrochloride was prescribed and my husband has taken it for approximately 2 - 3 months. I can report that his urine flow has increased significantly but he does not produce semen when ejaculating, something he has been oblivious to and it is only me who has noticed it. Failure to produce semen is not listed as a side affect to the drug and I feel it is of low incidence and has therefore gone unreported. This failure presents no problem to my husband or me presently and only if it does will he report it to his GP. May I respectfully suggest to those men who find it problematical that they tell their doctors who will a) explain the possible cause of the side effect; b) change the medication or c) give reassurance that this will not affect their sexual performance.

I wish to thank the person who initiated this discussion and also all the people who contributed to the topic and gave accounts of their own experiences with Tamsulosin. My own experience was exactly the same: dry ejaculation. After I had read all the above posts I realized that it must have been due to Tamsulosin. I stopped it for 24 hours and everything almost went back to normal. I suppose this differs from one person to another. Now, I'm hesitant about going back to this medication because I fear that if I take it for a longer period of time my ejaculation might go dry forever!
Thanks again everybody here.

Thank you so much theodore1914 for your valuable advice. You are absolutely right. I shouldn't do self treatment based on my personal judgement. I'll definitely consult my doctor on that, at now I am sure that things could go back to normal when the doctor determines that I no longer need this medication. Thanks again.

If you can revert to normal ejac after 24hrs, it's likely you can do so again. The greater risk in stopping Tamsulosin is going into acute urinary retention. This is likely to mean a trip to hospital and a catheter (ugh). Best avoided if at all possible.

I am a 69 year old healthy male and would like advice on my situation. I walk at least 4 times a week with a little jog mixed in. Not overweight, like to have a couple of gin and tonics in evening after supper. My urologist put me on FLOMAX and also Proscar about one and a half years ago. I was getting up to urinate three or four times at night and didn’t feel like my bladder was empting at times. After taking the medications for about 3 months I noticed a difference in my love life. I wasn’t getting as ridged as I once was and sometimes my erection would come and go during intercourse. I looked up the side effects and realized that the medications were the problem. I stopped taking both meds after about 4 months. It has been over a year but I am still not back where I once was in regards to a stiff erection. I have an erection but it is weak and not ridged like before. I tried a free sample of Viagra from my regular DR. but didn’t see much of a difference. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve my situation? Thanks Vern

Thanks for the advice! Does the Cialis give you a flushed red face. The few times I tried Viagra, it really flushed my face. It didn't work for me either.
Thanks

Hi Thomas, sounds like you take care of yourself, exercise is a vital requirement at our stage of life. I am 79 and try and do as much walking as I can and keep active. I have been on prescription medicine for prostate for about 5 years. Initially on Tamulosin and later combined with Finisteride as the Doc said they work better together. I now just take the Finisteride and generally only need to get up once a night to the bathroom. These drugs shrink the prostate so less semen is produced and the relaxed neck of the prostate leads to reverse ejaculation into the bladder. Once erect and this may take a moment or two I don't suffer your problem, and I don't think it is a symptom of enlarged prostate or the medication. One thing that is beneficial is to do pelvic floor exercises, from time to time, this can strengthen this area and improve erections and orgasms in my opinion.
