Due a hysterectomy and need advice

Hi all

I have 3 cysts, 2 the size of oranges on my left ovary, and one the size of a grapefruit on my right ovary. I have had a call from the hospital today to tell me I have to see the anesthetist at the end of March, and if everything is ok then my operation should be at the end of April. I have to have open surgery, and the surgeon said the incision will be from side to side due to my tummy as I am overweight.

I would love to hear from people who have been through this as I am scared silly! Also any tips with recovery and anything I should be taking into hospital, anything really, I would be really grateful smile

Thank you

Dawn x

    Hi guys

Had my last lot of tests today, each, blood tests, blood pressure etc, was at the hospital for 4 hours!! Had a good chat with the specialist nurse and she says I will be ok to go upstairs but will be very slow, so I can sleep in my own bed smile Got everything I need except a dressing gown, but wasn't pleased to find out you can't have someone with you on the ward while you are waiting for surgery sad They reckon I will be in hospital 3-5 days. Just want it over with now!

Hi Dawn, my husband was allowed to stay with me until I went to surgery but I suppose different hospitals have different rules!!!!! . Glad everything went ok with your tests, just waiting now for your operation, it will soon be here. All the best Debs .x

      Hi debs smile

No I'm not allowed to have anyone on the ward with me while I wait for the op, and my husband can only visit me at visiting times sad Nothing I can do now but it's increasing my anxiety about the whole thing knowing I will be alone. This time next week it will all be done thank goodness. Hope you are well smile

Hi Dawn, that's a pity no one can stay with you until your op. Take your Kindle or magazines, anything to keep you busy. Yes just keep reminding yourself it will soon be over, no more pain. I'm fine thanks and will be thinking of you next week. All the best Debs x

      Hi guys

I am back home now, very tired and very sore but glad to be back in my own bed. The surgeon told me the cyst on my right ovary was the size of a football, and the two on my left were both 6cms wide, and both my ovary were pretty much destroyed. The trapped wind is very painful, and I feel different somehow, but despite everything I'm glad I did it. Will write a big post about everything in detail to help others due the op in a few days, I am just so tired!

      Hope you are all well

Hi Dawn, so glad it all went well. It's surprising isn't it the size of these cysts ?, mine was 10 inches wrapped around my ovary 3 times. You will feel a lot better now your home in your own home. Just take everything easy but move around little and often. Speak soon Debs xx

I know it's amazing how they grow so big! I had to go doctors yesterday as the hospital hadn't given me enough pain relief to last over the bank holiday, and my doctor was fuming, as they hadn't given me any hurt and my haemoglobin level when I left hospital was 8.8 and is supposed to be 11.5-15.5! So he's put me on iron tablets for 3 months and if it drops below 8.0 I will have to have a blood transfusion! He reckons he's gonna call the hospital to complain lol! I don't know it's all fun and games hey! I am pottering to the kitchen to get peppermint tea and had a little walk around my garden today to get some fresh air, I hate being cooped up.

I was given peppermint drink in hospital , which really helped. You sound like me, every evening I would shuffle up and down our drive to get fresh air, I wondered what the neighbours was thinking hahaha. In a few months you will be tip top and wonder what all the fuss was about but you will never forget ( well I can't ) . I definetly think there should be meetings or a clinic for women to be able to go and talk about their worries or just to talk about their operation, it would of helped me enormously . X
