I think I'm having the same operation on the 30th June.  Mine is only a small cyst, think it was 4.7cm but it has a dark area at the bottom which they aren't sure about although my womb biopsy,CA125 test and smear were all normal.  I think he is doing the bikini line cut but if the cyst looks suspicious he will need to do a biopsy of the apron which is the fat round the womb so I think that is what the other cut will be, as he says if there are any cancer cells then that is where the will go first.

Good luck with your operation and let me know how you get on xxx

    Hi Bev,

    I'm 51 years old.

i had a cyst about the size of a rugby ball, I can't remember the exact size.

I had an incision up and down, as low as it cold go and past my belly button.

it weighed about 9lbs when it came out.

i had no real symptoms, I was lucky in that respect. Although near then end I did feel uncomfortable and bloated, with huge belly.

i had to have a full hysterectomy along with cyst out, the gynaecologist also said my appendix might come out, but was fine so stayed in.

my op was just over 6 weeks ago.

i am feeling great now, get a bit tired at times, and the numerous hot flushes are a royal pain, especially at night.

the op wasn't half as bad as I was expecting. Yes painful at first, but after a couple of weeks, everyday I was feeling better.

I had a letter about a week ago to say the cyst was completely benign and everything else fine, so huge relief.

best of luck to you. It will all be worth it. x

hope you don't mind me asking but what type of cyst? Was it a complex cyst? Glag it all went so well for you

They never really told me, it all went so fast, but in the letter saying everything was fine, it says I had mucinous cystadenoma.

i think the most common type. But whether that is complex or not I've no idea.

      Thanks Bev,

Yes straight in lol I think the worse symptoms so far are the hot flushes, especially at night. I think maybe a bit more down at times but my life is a bit stressful and sad lately so not sure if menopause or not lol

Oh and I missed your original question, I was told by the gynaecologist that operated that she had to make such a huge up and down incision to enable her to get the cyst out without rupturing it. In her own words "it was great fun" lol

    Hi Bev,

I had a 22cm septated mucanous cystadenoma cyst in my right ovary and I was told all along that I would have a vertical cut too.... When I got in to the waiting area on the day of my surgery, my surgeon told me thy they would examine me when I was put to sleep as it would depend on whether the cyst was stuck to the bowel or not whether they did horizontal or vertical. When I woke up they had gone horizontal, like a c-section. Thank god!

I don't think they will know until the same point unless your cyst is a dermoid, in which case they can't drain any fluid off. I am still off work and had my op on May 7th, it's a long process to recovery but it goes quickly. Hope you're ok

Im hoping they will rake a pic lol whats it look like beccy xx how are you feeling x

It looks like a balloon, it's weird but kind of interesting! If you private message me your email address I will send it to you if you want lol

you can ask for a pic, from the way they responded when I asked its quite common to ask that. Just take along your camera or smart phone and show them how to use it and they will do it for you and make sure your camera or phone is labelled up and returned with your stuff.

I am ok. Still sore but I think that's mostly my fault as I have moved house and probably done a bit too much! How are you feeling? Not too long till your op?

I had my pre op assessment yesterday too and I was quite surprised that the nurse said I didn't have to have a general anaesthetic and that I could have an epidural instead. eek  I'm seriously considering it because I've read it's less painful.  I am going to ask for sedation though if I have that as I don't want to be fully aware of what they are doingwink  My hysterectomy is 30th June at 8.30am, I'm first one in apparently which I'm quite happy about as I will only spend all day worrying myself silly lol
