Ectopic beats everyday

Hi. Anyone suffer from ectopics? Mine started 3 yrs ago when i was pregnant and are getting worse. Had ecgs...48 hr ecg ( which of course only showed a couple) echo and ct angiogram which im waiting the results for but wanted to know how many is normal? For the last 5 days have been really bad and tonight in the space of an hour as i counted them i had 16..just so typical that when i had my 48 hr ecg a few weeks back i was having a good few days so of course the cardiologist said all looked normal. Just wondered if people suffered with these and what the outcome has been? Its really getting to me and worrying me now. THANKS.

This is the weird thing it can be quiet for days then starts up for no apparent reason. Is it just random and unpredictable or are there definite triggers we are not picking up?
Trouble is that so many people mention possible triggers that other people aren't affected by.
Alcohol? The weather? Vitamin D? An E supplement in a meal, or just 'one of those things'.
At least you know that next Tuesday you will be completely free for 24 hours! Seriously, I do wonder about this anxiety thing, and when you know someone with a medical background is paying attention you feel reassured and the stress goes down and the ectopics cease.
Every time I have had a test or gone to see the nurse and been hooked up, the ectopics magically disappear.
Let us know how you get on with your 24 hour test will you?

Hi Emily, this is such a reassuring thread to read as I've had them for years too. I'm 47 going on 48 and they've been a total menace since I was approx. 40. Had three babies 34, 36 and 38 years of age so did a bit of a ringer on my body and bang then it all started.
As you;ve all said could have nothing for a few months, and then a few a day develops into up to 300 in an hour...for a couple of hours and then the cool off. I've had all the tests and same feedback - nothing to worry about but they are a nuisance. Have had many ECGs, holters x2, stress test, echo, and they all come back normal. It's like cardiologists dont really have any further answers. But I've noticed they have become much worse over time unfortunately. Yes totally drink related too and like other people have said, heavy meals, late nights, bad sleeps, stress and anxiety, or worrying about something all affect the ectopic episodes. But as someone else said, they can come out of nowhere, when I'm quite relaxed.
I think mine are anxiety driven in the main. Having started suffering from panic disorder since 30s the god forsaken ecoptics just followed suit. Like as if it wasn't enough to have simple panic attacks. They're a walk in the park now by comparison.
I've had a bad dose of them since 22nd Feb (3 weeks on and off and some days, evenings mainly brutal). sometimes I have to leave the room to gather myself. They are extremely frightening and worrying that they'll turn into Afib. My cardiologist said they won't but at the same time he put me on Flecinide 3 times a day 50mg and Metacor (betablocker) both help significantly but so much so that if I'm having a few weeks of ectopics I just have to have that medication or I don't know what the hell would happen. I have been on them for on and off 3 years...that's a long time sadly. I want to come off them and did from Nov 2020 till 22nd Feb. Always carry them in my bag just in case but wasn't taking them. I'd love to kick this to the kerb for once and for all and just don't know how. I've done small meals frequently, lowered alcohol intake and gone decaf all of which help...but they're never fully gone. May try the higher dosages of Magnesium. Walking, mindfulness and yoga are great. What gets me is there;s no real rhyme nor reason to them...frustrating! Thanks all, x

Hi, I have just come across this forum scouring for answers after suffering ectopic beats for the last week. Thank you to every one who has posted, just knowing I'm not alone offers some comfort.
I had a doctor's appointment 2 days ago with ECG and blood taken, just waiting for results.
I find being sat up makes them so much worse, this is usually when I get a run of them in a row leaving me exhausted and in a state of panic. I also think they have a strong connection to your stomach. When mine trigger I find myself bloating at the same time and and often burp after a spell of ectopic beats, I also get a mild pain in the chest, is this normal?
As far as the vagus nerve goes I wonder if this could be damaged in some way. Mine have started since I had a back injury in which seating was agony and laying down was relief, this is exactly like ectopic beats for me. It could also explain why it is seemingly more common in women who have given birth. Just a thought.
Only living a week with this and I am already desperate to try and find a cure.
I find myself terrified to exercise right now in the fear of my heart failing. It is such a scary feeling to feel it stop, I have had to stop using the monitor on my phone as seeing the missing beats is even scarier!
Any tips on how to try and live a normal life? I find myself not wanting to get out of bed right now and terrified to eat as this makes it worse!

We're all with you and scared too! I live for "quiet" days when palpitations are not often, but dread the "busy" days when it seems nothing helps. I'm opposite as laying down it's worse than sitting up. I'm living in fear of it getting bad when I'm out with friends/family. I find I'm turning down invitations and then get mad at myself for not going. I've tried vitamins, many different meds, and different cardiologists and EPs. They all say same.. get on with your life and stop worrying. Whatever happens, happens. So I guess mindfulness or meditation will help. I know praying helps! I'm afraid to ask God to make it stop.... and my request is misunderstood 🤣 Just adding a little humor!

Same here I am glad i am not alone on this..For the past 3 months now i have had these ectopic heart beats. About 4-5 years ago i had the same feeling in my mid 20s but however it only lasted about a week or 2 and very dull..now being 31 male i feel them everyday, some days better then others and sometimes during the day are better...Went to doc and cardiologist and was told your heart is strong and could not find any wrong with my heart. Great!!! but i still get them...the cardiologist did not do a holter monitor which i would have like too. Going back to my regular doctor this week for a follow up. last week was getting better would wake up and not feel it for like the first 8-9 hrs of the day..and even went two days with none. But bamm they came back last 3 days be ruff alittle. I dont know what causing them like the rest of us here we tired everything. Only thing i notice i only feel them when sitting or relaxing. When i am walking or doing things around the house i dont feel them at all but in my head i know when i sit and relax there coming lol...I walk alot but going to start to do cardio and see if that changes anything...I want to try anxiety pills and see if that helps maybe...after that maybe beta blockers...it sucks having them cause we all fear we are going to die from it...days we dont feel it we have our lives back and enjoy the moment. i will update as i go along.

Hi,
I am 28 years old now and have had ectopics
for more than 2 years now. They are horrible thing and make me so anxious sometime. I have had heart scan, 7 day holter and exercise test, all was normal, they did not detect any afib, just ectopic beats. I do get episodes sometime when they come in a row and it feels like heart is fluttering for few seconds and it is really scary and makes me think i have afib. Cardiologist prescribed me propranolol to be taken when I have them, it sometimes works, sometime not. I also tend to get ectopics when I bend down for some reason or when I lift something. Glad to read all your stories and share this with you. I do get paranoid a lot when I have them and want to go to my GP all the time to get checked again in case it has gotten worse. I am also running regularly which I think helps me with my ectopics. I can have weeks without them and then can have them every day out of the blue when I rest which is really annoying and I cannot figure it out what triggers them.

I've had them for about 15 years, started when I was around 24 for some reason. They used to come on for a few weeks/months then almost disappear for a few weeks, but over the last 4-5 years I have had them daily - anywhere from 50 to 900 a day. They are often also painful, which is the worst part.
I've had all the tests, blood tests, holters, ecgs, ultrasounds etc and told its nothing to worry about, but to this day I still worry about them and struggle to sleep most nights due to them. have tried bisoprolol etc, but didn't seem to make a huge amount of difference. I've pretty much given up trying to get rid of them now and going to to the GP - resigned to it being something I will just have to live with!

Wow sorry to hear your beats are painful. The plus side is that you had them for 15 years and live to tell the story. Like all of us here its something we have to live with. I have the same issue 5 months now feeling them everyday some days maybe 10-15 and some days maybe hundreds. However this month it feels alot less noticeable the thumping less noticeable however i feel the sensation of the beat. Keep us updated hope you feel better

Hey there, glad to have found this thread for a bit of comfort in knowing that I am not the only one, however I do seem to have the worst symptoms, I'm currently laying in bed and have counted over 200 violent palpitations in the last 2.5 hours they shake my whole body when my heart thumps there that strong. I've tried the magnesium and excersise which helps a bit but then I have nights like this that really make it all seem Pointless. I hope your all doing well

I'm another sufferer of 19 years. Most days up to Midday I'm all clear of ectopics. Then they start - just 1 or 2 between 12 and 1pm and slowly increasing up to about 7pm. If I walk, I get no ectopics so I try and walk about 2 miles a day. Sitting down is the worst position for me. Sleeping is fine - no ectopics. So just can't work it out. My BMI is 29.5 so I'm going to try losing weight. Usual echo and holter all say ok. Magnesium taurate works wonders for about 2-3 days then it fades out and back they come. I am a naturally anxious person so maybe there's the clue? Are we all too anxious with a body full of adrenaline? The unpleasantness ectopics bring make it very difficult to totally let go and drain all that adrenaline. Has anybody tried high doses of magnesium just to see what happens?

hello everyone! I'm new to forum but thank God you are there! History: I'm 65 and have ectopics since 16. Mostly just once in a while until 3yr ago I had Afib episode that got me an ambulance ride to ER. After few hours they decided I needed a cardioversion where they put you to sleep to shock your heart so it will return to normal rhythm. I was scared so I asked for an Ativan and when they came to take me to procedure room.... I had converted back to normal on my own. Even now when I have the really bad episodes of skipping, an ativan always helps. it keeps me calm so I don't worry as much. My PCP wants to put me on an SSRI to help with anxiety. I keep telling them the ectopics cause the anxiety so fix the palpitations and I'll be fine. There's no magic pill! I take Eliquis blood thinner so I won't have a stroke since the afib put me at a high risk for stroke. I used to be on Diltiazem and Flecainide but now I'm on Metoprolol which none of these helped ectopics at all! I take Vitamins (D3000, C1000, b12 1000, Mag taurinate & glycinate combo 400mg,) It's too risky to take ativan alot because it can be addictive. I've had many tests and told my heart is structurally sound, and told not to worry. PVCs & PACs STILL DRIVE ME CRAZY WITH WORRY! Because they make me feel so bad! But this forum helps so much! You all know what it feels like and I'm not alone! Thank you & God bless!

I have had ectopic beats off and on for years but they've become pretty persistent over the last year, in fact annoying because I can often feel them. I've also had SVT since my 20s (I'm 71 now) and last year a monitor recorded an episode of AF. How do I tell the difference between the ectopic beats and an episode of AF? I'm on beta blockers, blood thinners and blood pressure medication.
Reassuring to read others experiences

hi Emily, sorry to hear your struggling. I to have been having them for the last 3 weeks. every 2 of 3 minutes 24/7. I did have them over a year ago for a few weeks, but they went away until now. no rhyme or reason they come and go! waiting to have another 24 hour monitor, see what happens. I suppose like most people i will have a good day without them, and they won't materialise on that day. 🤔Good luck to you, hope they go away.
