Hi. Anyone suffer from ectopics? Mine started 3 yrs ago when i was pregnant and are getting worse. Had ecgs...48 hr ecg ( which of course only showed a couple) echo and ct angiogram which im waiting the results for but wanted to know how many is normal? For the last 5 days have been really bad and tonight in the space of an hour as i counted them i had 16..just so typical that when i had my 48 hr ecg a few weeks back i was having a good few days so of course the cardiologist said all looked normal. Just wondered if people suffered with these and what the outcome has been? Its really getting to me and worrying me now. THANKS.

i,ve had ectopics for 46 years, sometimes bad and sometimes not aware of them. when i first got them it ruled my life , i got used to them and when i was busy didn,t notice them as much. i worked and brought up 3 successful children. i,m now 74 and active but they still take over sometimes. i think its a case of accepting them and living your life otherwise they take over.

Hi,
To all suffering with skipped beats. I see that magnesium helps some of you. Which magnesium are you taking? I am taking 200 mg of magnesium citrate per day and don't see any difference. My doctor says its from anxiety but I don't think he is correct. I just don't know if anxiety can cause this. I have these skipped beats for years. Sometime they come for a day and at other times they last for weeks. Beta blocker metoprolol doesn't seem to help. What does help is when I take a klonopin but am afraid to take it because it can become addictive. Had a stress test last week and it was normal although the doctor could see the skipped beats. Wore a holter monitor this week and am waiting for results. I know skipped beats will show because I could feel them. Am frightened all the time. Could use some help or reassurance. Thank you.

No need to apologize as we all are suffering too and we wouldn't be here on this forum if we weren't looking for others to share! I was suffering badly with ectopics tonight and reading others offering advice to hang in there really makes me feel better than all the dr visits I've had! This has become my safety place to run to when I'm scared!

hi fellow forumers may i know how many ectopics do you suffer on bad days? i first got mine when I was pregnant last year and had given birth 2 months ago . now they are starting up again, its absolutely a nuisance and how i wish i dont have them i pray everyday. just last night i felt like they come after every beat then stop for a while then comes on again . it starts around evening till i wake up in the morning. i am basically sleep deprived as i am caring for my infant so my cardio said its due to stress and insufficient sleep
my cardiologist also did a 24 hr monitoring and echo and she said its a benign condition . i am 30 and feeling so discouraged when it comes and start thinking if i will die but it gives me comfort that some of you had it for 30-40 years! i wonder if it will get worse if i get pregnant again , well my cardio says its not an issue with another pregnancy but i cant stand it if it gets worst
i ve also read about magnesium here, how many mg should i take and should i take it before bed?
hope to have some comfort here
trying to stay positive

hi yes I have for years now too, mine started back in 2015 and had the holter monitor but it didn't show anything I've been in hospital a few times with chest pain and nothing was ever found, it wasn't until recently I went to my local ER that right at the time I was hooked up to the ECG machine the doctor was in talking to me and saw on the screen as my heart rate went sky high after a missed beat, I was then referred to a cardiologist and had to wear this heart bug device for a month and today I got my results and have to start a new medication to help suppress them and I need to have 2 more further tests done and if the medication doesn't work, they may want to put wires up into my heart to stop it, at first I didn't think much of it when it first started but as the years have gone by they have gotten worse and more frequent to the point they are uncomfortable and noticeable all the time.

hi Jess, my ectopic beats started 4 years ago. i am 34. At first i had them only when i was in bed but now i have them at random moments. in the morning, at night, in sleep. Doctor put me a 24h holter but in that day, i had a good day and recorded only 30 extrasystoles ventricular and 30 supraventricular. The thing that bothers me is that sometimes when i have and ectopic beat, my heart rate rises just like in your case and enters a loop and the higher bpms i have, more ectopic beats and more ectopic beats leads to higher bpm. it takes 5 minutes sometimes to get back to normal, other times 1h. Doctors said that i need wear a ekg holter longer than 24h. I did blood work as well and nothing is wrong. Did you had done more tests? Any updated?

yes my heart does exactly that at random times in the day, rises really high then will drop again, I have been put on beta blockers (metoprolol) I have to take to 50mg tablet twice a day, morning and night, doctor said halter monitor results showed numerous ectopic beats but still its apparently nothing to worry about, he will continue to monitor it for another 12 months whilst on the medication and if I still find it bothering he will do the surgery to put wires up into my heart to stop it, but the surgery scares me, the medication seems to be helping more than I thought, I do still get them but not as intense or often maybe 1-5 on a bad day, but if I do forget to take it my heart let's me know. has the doctor offered to give you beta blockers?

Doctor prescribed me Bisoprolol 2.5mg daily. With treatment, I do have pvc's but not that intense. strange thing is that at the first 3 days i had only 2 or 3 pvc's, but now i have more than 50. As i mentioned, not that intense. Doctor said that i have to make a heart MRI because from all the tests that i made, nothing showed to he o problem. Also, he explained that is normal that the heart rate goes up after a extrasystole.

hi! grateful tohave found this thread. im just 21 and mine started in a classroom at 16, i thought i was going to pass out, had no idea what was going on.
this sounds very strange but i've been told a way that we can stop them for when they occur is make the action as if you're going for a poop- the pushing action stops it. it works! 😃

Hi all, glad i found this forum - certainly reassuring. i've suffered these issues for as long as i can remember (1st memory is when i was about 10, with a racing heart rate that wouldnt settle). suffered ever since then on and off with ectopic beats and occassions where my heartbeats go completely random for a few secs, then go a bit irregular before getting back to normal - have you also suffered with this type?
Certainly over the last few years (now in my 50's) i've noticed an increase in the frequency of ectopic beats - when I get these I am fully aware of them and that increases my anxiety which I think makes it worse. I've had a number of ECG's and all clear, seems to settle down just when youre having the ECG. Holter monitor was recommended by A&E after one of my visits - had a 3 day one and it did pick up the occassional ectopic - but Doc said nothing to worry about. I ended up buying my own little ECG monitor so when I do have episodes I can at least catch and record them, it is the KardiaMobile, worth checking out.
I know alcohol is a trigger for me, not while drinking but the following day. I also suffer from high blood pressure (have for many years), been taking Ramipril for blood pressure for 2 years and hasnt made a difference - but following discussions with GP about my Ectopic beats, I was prescribed Bisoprolol Fumarate and these appear to help with the beats, doesnt stop them happening but they now seem less "aggressive" - also my blood pressure has dropped which is an added bonus (but BPM reduced to 50 - 55).
Like many, I've struggled with this over the years and still do, I get them, I get anxious, makes them worse. Trying to live with them but the anxiety is always there - always seem to be waiting for the next "attack"!
Anyway, sorry for the ramble but good to get off my chest with folk who actually know what I'm experiencing.

Might be time to re-evaluate your diet. Reading through the forums there seem to be some things that consistently affect others whilst certain foods or drinks seem to be more random
Have you gained weight? Started taking less exercise? Had more stress with a change to a new house or a new job, different personal relationship? Changed your chemical cleaner? Moved a router into your bedroom? Have you cut out caffeine and other over processed foods?
Its worth spending a couple of hours going through the comments on the various threads and writing down what resonates with you.
Anxiety also seems to be a common factor as does age

Hi, cannot tell you how this post and all the comments have made me feel like i am not alone and that others feel that same fear/ panic and confusion as me over eptopic beats.
I am 26 years old and have had them on and off since about 18 however i do think i experienced them as a child at night. I have had the same ECGs and 24 hour monitors and everytime i am told they are benign and to live with them. I have cut out caffine etc all the stuff that makes them worse but recently i experienced ten in a row when i was hill walking and it got me in such a state i had to come down. Ive since demanded another 24 hour monitor or assessment as this past month i have experienced multiple in a day which is a lot for me! They have definitely increased and come in multiples now and i can almost tell when one is going to occur with the way my chest feels. Dr also prescribed me beta blockers to take when they are bad. Has anyone good experience of beta blockers? I am intrigued by the magnesium, i mentioned to doc but she said she didnt know about it. Thanks again for support !

me too, i can tell when they occur by the chest feel. in a good day i have 10 ectopics, but in a bad day i have over an 1 hour of continues ectopic. i have 2 or 3 normal beats and the 3rd or 4th it's an actopic beat. it will pass only if i lay down. Sometimes when i have ectopic beats my heart rate increase and more i have, more increase heart rate i have as well. Doctors said they are benign but when i was monitored 24h with a ekg holter, i was having a good day and did not recorded any higher bpm caused by ectopic beats. only isolated ectopic in a total of almost 70. Do you have any update?
