Eeek! Got my date

Posted , 14 users are following.

I'm going for my pre-op assessment tomorrow at 9.30am ready for my THR on 3rd March.  I had a phone call about 10 minutes ago, still haven't had my letter so it was a bit of a shock even though they said it would be in March.

I'm still shaking but pleased, scared and every other emotion you can think of.

No idea Keith, I hope to find out more at my pre-op tomorrow, or even in the letter which I have not yet received.  After my phone call this morning I thought it would be in the post today but it wasn't sad

    Hi dear Cels -

Exciting and scary and indeed everything ---

You will be fine, girl .... tomorrow pre-op - good luck and please share your experience -

Take deep breaths and relax your body throughout the day, okay -

Funny how we react, in spite of waiting and preparing and hoping and then: whammo, it is here and we are so overwhelmed by the thought that it is happening !

    big warm hug

Oh wow, long time coming but now it is here!!! So happy for you and it will be a mixed feeling for you of course, but you are going to be fixed soon!! You really are!

A cup of tea and a slice of cake (for you sugar levels of course!) The assessment is really fine, it is the first step of many, but soon you are going to be completely pain free. We are all here for you every step of the way!

Thanks Rose.  Currently nursing a large cup of coffee.  I was still in bed and half asleep when the phone rang.  What a way to be woken up.

Honestly, I would be so much worse without having joined this site.  I feel it has really prepared me for what's going to happen.

It's weird isn't it? You spend so long saying "when I've had the op" and then suddenly it's there and you're running around like a loon wondering if that pain you've had is really as real as you think and do you really need a THR?

    Yes, you do!

With a second one looming I still went through all the emotional turmoil but I only had to get out of a chair to remind me why I was having it.

Spend the next week packing a little bag with all your comforts - along with the advised aids, night kit and wash stuff, I took glossy mags, sewing, a book and my colouring book! I also took my ipod and some earplugs as well as some snacks and juice.

The next week will pass and then you'll find you're sat in bed in your gown waiting for a comedian porter to take you down.

See you on the other side!

You've read my mind Kate!  I've just been through the 'do I really need it' scenario, half packed a bag (I know, but I just had to), and put a load of washing on so I can pack an excessive amount of underwear that I probably won't need.  My head is whirling!

Cels, umm, no way to put this delicately, take all the undies! I could write a comedy sketch about my mishaps including weeing on my partner. Hah!

If you have the wash of doubts just go to you worst day and you'll get over it. The op is big and brutal but from the time you wake up the pain has shifted from hopeless to hopeful.

I didn't mean to, Cels, he got in the way!

I had a spinal for the op and it does leave you a little out of control for a while. I know from the first one that once I was more mobile things improved.

      Now, have you packed?

I have packed clothes and toiletries.  Just need a bag of things to read and things to do.  I'm going to download some books, and take some colouring books in and maybe my x-stitch.

I think our nearest and dearest put up with a huge amount - especially in the first few days. Mine had the great misfortune of being too close whilst I was reacting (being sick) to the anaesthetcis.

She is such a darling - so much so, that she has never mentioned it again..... yeah, right.
