Eeek! Got my date

Posted , 14 users are following.

I'm going for my pre-op assessment tomorrow at 9.30am ready for my THR on 3rd March.  I had a phone call about 10 minutes ago, still haven't had my letter so it was a bit of a shock even though they said it would be in March.

I'm still shaking but pleased, scared and every other emotion you can think of.

Up to the starting blocks now then ... just remember it's a long race, not a sprint.

    Well done Cels,

Now you are in the final straight of the race and only one more hurdle to clear before crossing the finish line with a new hip.

Don't be too scared, because it can raise your blood pressure and you want to pass your pre-op, don't you?

Don't be scared but be prepared is a good motto.

Be aware that this op is a roller-coaster ride of ups and downs. But also be aware that it will change your life for the better. Most people on here are glad they had the op, with a few rare exceptions.

    Best wishes

      Hi and thanks Shirley,

I'm not scared as such, but it has been so sudden it isn't sinking in that it's next week.  I'm sure I'll be calmer tomorrow for my pre-op.

Thank goodness for this place.  I don't know what I'd do without you lot and I really mean that.

Calm down. I phoned to chase up my appointment, just before christmas. Thinking it would be around March. She said can you come in on 30th Dec. I said yes, I spent the christmas not even thinking of christmas, I went in at 7.30am and it was all over by 2pm. Cup of tea, trip to the loo.

Don't worry, think of this time next year. Your be running, dancing pain free. The post op pain is a nuisance, but my orginal pain of 8 years all gone, calm your emotion, spend your time getting ready for you return home, your be done for the summer to enjoy. Xx big hug.

Thanks Dawn.  I'm trying to calm down but not having much success.  I've started a jigsaw to try and take my mind off things.  I've phoned both my sons and got answerphones. *sigh*

      Hi Sandra,

Have you called them at all after the cancellation of your surgery?

Yes, we have all been there and understand the waves of emotions, including fear , finding excuses not to have the surgery etc.

No explanation is needed what  we are afraid of either -

I so hope you get your surgery date soon....

      big warm hug

      Hi Sandra,

I hope you don't have too long to wait.  Mine all came it a bit of a whirl really.  Sooner than expected so you never know what tomorrow will bring.  I certainly didn't expect a phone call at 8.15 this morning.  I have assessment tomorrow, o/t on Friday - I've been measuring my furniture this morning - then a loooong wait until next Thursday.  The penny still hasn't dropped really.  I'm still in a daze.

Well, I had my pre-op this morning.  ECG, blood tests, urine sample, MRSA swabs and blood pressure.  Unfortunately my blood pressure was a little high and the nurse wasn't happy, so I have to go to my surgery and have it taken 3 times before my op to make sure it's okay.  I'm sure it was just nerves but here's hoping it'll go down.

    Wah!

    Hi Cels,

Keep calm and rest quietly. Watch things you enjoy on T.v and have a calming influence on you. Maybe read or watch dvds. No loud visitors who wind you up with "horror stories about their operations.

Take plenty of walks and enjoy the fresh air. After the op you will be

stuck indoors for a while so make the most of it.

Relax and hopefully the blood pressure will take care of itself.

      Thanks Shirley,

She said they might not go ahead with the op if my blood pressure doesn't come down and would have to refer me back to my GP to review my medication.  I do suffer from high blood pressure but it has been under control for a couple of years.  Here's hoping it's just anxiety.  I'll be gutted if it's all put on hold.

I'll spend the weekend taking things easy and fingers crossed it will level out.

      hi cels,

I also have high blood pressure and

      taking medication for it. ..

it is beyond me why anyone besides the doctor would tell you

      that. ..is she authorized ?

being in pain, facing surgery, anxiety, traffic etc. can make BP go

      up ....

      arghhhh...my BP just shot up

      no worries

      have a good night

      Hi Renee,

I can't remember her exact words.  My heart just plummeted when she said "Oh, that's high" after taking my BP.  She certainly said something that gave me the impression that the surgeon would want it to be lower before going ahead.  My BP at the hospital was 166/104 and then 170/100 a bit later.  Yes it was high but I was terribly nervous  Anyway,  I went straight to my surgery after seeing the nurse and took my  BP in the machine and it was 154/71 and went again this morning and it was 138/64.  That's obviously much better.  I hope they accept readings from the machine as I couldn't get an appt with the nurse.  The machine does give you a printed slip so they'll know I'm not making it up.

Fingers, legs and eyes crossed xxx

Oh, and she said she'd contact my GP for the readings they have on record - I have my BP taken about every 6 months and it's always good x
