Effects of citalopram 20 mg

Posted , 44 users are following.

I have felt tired, sometimes light headed, agitated and I sweat a little bit at night.

I find it difficult to get to sleep as my mind is often with many thoughts such as \"Am I doing the right choice in going to volunteer outside of London?\"

Also I wonder if I am taking the correct medicine for anxiety.

I am on 20 mg Citalopram (I'm 18), I've been taking this drug since the beginning of March after been put through countless different councelling sessions since the age of 11 for depression and anxiety. Finally at age 18 I've been given this to help. I do feel better, however I'm still struggling with my anxiety massively and was wondering if anyone was having the same problem? At least I know my night time sweats are normal. However after taking them since the beginning of March, I thought my night sweats and nightmares would have stopped by now. If any one could suggest anything that would help, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi. I have been on Citalopram for 6 days now. I am menopausal and HRT is out of the question due to high blood pressure. I was put o the wrong type of contraceptive pill that sent me on a down wood spiral  that helped to unlock all life's knocks from the past and bring me down to breaking point. Not wanting to go on any more. My  doctor put me on Citalopram 20mg and I haven't looked back. I am much calmer only a couple of anxiety moments have been experienced and one vivid dream as yet. No hot sweats. The main side effect is concentrating on more than one thing  at a time. basically  I cannot multi task at the moment but this is a small price to pay . I just wish I had asked for help earlier on so that my love ones would not of had to put up with all that I have endured on them. Wishing you all well. x

    Any adivse would help.

    Thank you!

Iv only been on this medication for my second day and I feel more of out touch with people than I was before. The headaches and sweating I can deal with for the most part. But the constant thinking and lack of sleep is horrible in my line of work. Should I stop taking the medication?

I've been on venlafaxine for years and it does't seem to be working anymore.  I'm hoping to start something like citalopram in the hopes it will ease my depression andn anxiety which is becoming unbearable.

I know you posted over a year ago and probably don't go on this forum anymore but i wanted to post and thank you for your incite. My girlfirend is on these pills and has been struggling, as a lot of people are here, for a long, long time and she's 4 days into this medication and struggling. Posts like yours and others (but I found yours the most indepth and weight lifting) give me hope and a point of reference for her, who is going to be reading all of this as well.

Thank you and I hope things are going much better for you now. Bloody stoked for some good news after 6 months of bad. All the best.

I have started taking 10mg of citalopram around a month ago. Other medications in the past have made me perspire sevely but I seem to be ok on this. Already used to the initial side effects of antidepressants I preserved but now think it's not strong enough as the anxiety and massive mood swings, depression and anger still is there.

So I've asked to be upped to 20mg daily each morning to see if that helps.

My situation has never been helped by the fact that in the late 90's and probably until 2006 I used recreational drugs to go out and socialise.

Is anyone else finding normal life issues hard to deal with because of the same reason.

Obviously life events over the last few years played a massive part in triggering my anxiety and depression but I feel my party years have not helped.

I took citalopram (celexa) 20 mg one time when I as having an intense anxiety attack. This was when I was still building my dosage. Probably one of the worst decisions I have ever made. Along with that, I do smoke marijuana on a daily bases, therefore I believe this to be one of the reasons why I was having such intense racing thoughts. Basically my body would go in and out of feeling muscle weakness, fatigue, numbing and tingling everywhere including my head, also a white/ blurry vision. From my two day experience, I was having insane energy boosts, almost like I could not control my thoughts, and I just wanted to die because it felt like torture. Please, please, for people with severe anxiety, it might not be the best treatment. I basically wound up in the emergency room on my 2nd day of having taken it. My whole body was numb and tingling and shaky, I simply couldnt handle it anymore. I refused to go about my day dealing with it. I was experiencing feelings of being naseauted, along with vommitting, and not being able to eat anything. At the hospital they put an IV in me and I started to panic immediately. It felt completely out of control, my who body was basically vibrating internally, that my chest was going to collapse, like there were these huge balls at the top of my fingers. I'm not kidding when I say I would rather have the flu or strep throat than feel like I did. I thought about committing suicide. It is very dissapointing that these drugs can have such extreme reactions. I am never turning to another antidepressant again, SSRIS' ARE NO JOKE. Even after getting discharged I still dont feel completely normal as I'd like. Be extremely cautious and careful
