Effects of Total Joint Replacement

Hi guys

My name is Ross Murphy and I study at the University of Brighton.

I am currently conducting research into people's life after joint surgery and how it effects your lifestyle and wellbeing. I am currently looking for some people to fill out a simple diary study for me to understand your daily activities and your emotions/feelings throughout a 5 day process.

I am wondering if anyone on here is keen to fill out this simple diary study helping me move forward to help people in your situation in the future. It would be ideal if the people keen to do this were in the UK, so I can send the diary study to you.

Thankyou

hey ross, im from u.s., had tkr in march 2016.  my bend is only 100 degrees, straight 1.  i still have pain and stiffness.  do exercises everyday, but had to hold back due to pain starting in my inner and back of thigh.  also now in my lower back and neck and shoulders. did start seeing a chiropractor about 4 weeks ago, i think im on my 5 or 6th visit.  im not sure if its helping. just got an mri yesterday, hoping it shows why im getting this pain and how i can resolve all the issues i have going on especially why my bend isnt any better.  i hate to complain, everyone has their cross to carry. we all understand each other here.  just to let you know, im am a 61 year old female, was in pretty good shape before all this, 10 years ago i had both hips replaced and 12 years ago i had lower back fusion.  none of those surgeries compared to the po of a tkr (they went very well).  the hardest thing i have ever gone through. i feel like it has aged me 10 to 20 years. On top of all this, i started having oral/teeth problems, i ended up having two root canals and crowns.  I have always taken care of my teeth, it became a nightmare, my teeth and jaw were in extreme pain, it is still not resolved, went back to have one root canal redone, still in pain (i think i have this thing called Burning mouth syndrom as well, had to research that as well).   i still try my best each day. what else are we going to do???  this surgery not only affects ones body physically but also does a ringer on ones state of mind as well, depression can set in easily and has to be dealt with.  i hope for the best, and wish every good health in the new year!

Hi there. I'm from Ontario Canada.  I had my TKR July 28th

did amazing the first 3 weeks was so happy  then my physio therapist made me go down a flight of stairs at 3 weeks. That nite my knee swelled the size of a 5 pin bowling ball so hard  and the pain was unbearable!! Ended up in emerg. Set back big time. Took along time for the swelling and pain to slow down. Things changed After that I still swell on the one side, no pain but discomfort.  Life has changed for me but I'm hoping as time goes on it will get better. You are welcome to ask any questions.
