I'm sorry I can't make a helpful comment or answer your question Brian but having read your latest entry I am amazed to learn that I will have to wait 3 weeks before showering.  Is this the usual post op wait?  God, I'll be a horrible stinky mess.  Yuk!  Why does no one tell you this?

Hi Jennifer, I had to wait 14 days until dressing was removed and stitiches out, think one has to keep dressing and wound dry until this time so it will be different for everyone.  I am really enjoying my showers now and today marks my 3 week birthday.  Wound still tender as I guess there is dissolvable stitiches under skin

Hi. If you have a waterproof dressing you can shower straight away. If you have an allergy to them then you get told to wait till staples are out. However, I covered my dressing with a plastic bag and waterproof tape and showered no problem

Hi, I was told that I could not shower until the staplels came out, normaly about 14 days, but some sort of mix up at my GP the staples came out day 18. so my wife helped me every night to stand in the bathroom and have a complete all over wash. Dont think I got to the stinky mess possitionbiggrin

      Hi Jennifer Louise

It depends on whether you have a walk in shower or over bath.

I had a waterproof dressing with dissolvable stitches so aloud to get in shower but not able to get in as my shower over bath.

I had to have a strip wash every day at sink so I didn't get to be a stinky mess until at 6 weeks I was told I could get in the shower and have a bath.

Wow I'm very surprised, I was allowed to shower as soon as I was released from the hospital. I was in 4 days and could shower on the 5th day. I was told no taking a bath until my I vision was healed and my stitches were out.

Hi Brian, I am 6 weeks post op and mine is slowly starting to settle. Its the scar tissue knitting back together etc. I have also been told today to massage my scar tissue to get the blood circulating and become desentitised as so sensitive.

Sorry Brian mine looks normal size but still some swelling over wound.  Have read that some people take up to 6 months to return to normal and I wonder if this depends on how one was walking pre op.  If you were limping badly maybe the pelveis is slightly out of allignment and needs to return to normal when one starts walking normally - hey I am not an expert but sounds reasonable

Hi I think my hip feels bigger as well , it's not too bad tho , I have slim hips so wonder if thTs why . .?

Hi Brian, after my TLHR my hip protruded an remainder so for up to four weeks then noticed after a further three days I went down and looks normal. 5 weeks now...Still feels tight round the surgery area and causes me to limp when walking without crutches, so more exercises and time required, getting there bit by bit and work will just have to wait. Good luck and a speedy recovery to you.
