Hello I'm 44 and have recently been diagnosed with a 11cm Fibroid, my Gyno has put me on Esmya to try and shrink the fibroid, I just wondered if any one could me advice or their review as its fairly new treatment and can't find anyone who has tried it.

Thank you

My husband found this video on youtube yesterday... he emailed it to me. it gives me hope!!!

its a fascinating, short video to see Israel's amazing new medical technology--a non-invasive treatment for surgery. What a tremendous step in the progress of medicine.

If you, or someone you love, is suffering from FIBROIDS!!!! Cancer, Parkinson's, Tumors, etc., then this will be of tremendous interest.

Most operating rooms as we know them now might not be needed sometime in the not too distant future. Watch this, and be amazed:

    its not spam... I promise!

    Hi KK108,

I have been to see a good surgeon and will have been given the option of open myomectomy or key hole. But for keyhole, i will need to take GNRH hormone injections to further reduce the fibroids, so that there will be less blood loss during the operation. I am in a bit of a limbo at the moment as I need to decide what to do sooner rather than later - but keyhole is looking like the best option.

Has anyone tried the hormone injections? They said I will be given Zoladex? I hear the side effects are quite bad and i'm worried about that.

    Has anyone taken Zoladex?

Missy. I did lupron. I think same type of hormone? Hot flashes and dryness but otherwise nothing. Fairly manageable compared to what I'm normally faced with. Up the upside my belly went down to normal and my periods stopped! I'm excited for you and your keyhole surgery! I hope that becomes an option for me after esmya!

I am 7 days post op today!! My surgeon removed 11 fibroids but after lengthy procedure then had to abort and revert to total abdominal hysterectomy to remove another of the largest fibroids and womb. I think the esmaya did help to reduce the size of the fibroids. The operation was larger and more invasive than I had hoped and yes you are very sore however after only a week I'm quite mobile and well on the road to recovery! And I am really glad to have got rid of them once and for all

Heather 149, good to know you're on the mend and recovering well

Hi KristenY, I was part of this technology (HIFU) in a clinical study in Toronto. Unfortunately it did not work for me. They suspected this would be the case due to the size, ie. 13 cm x 10. It seems rot eork best on small fibroids and they don't know impacts on fertility. However, I do think like you with the advancements in medicine there will be more and better treatments like this (think this tech is currently permanently in toronto now). There seems to be a number of trials hapoening across the globe fir rhis technology.I would encourage people though.if you havnt looked into it to check out clinical trials. Some are new and look scary but others seem safe and forward thinking.

I have just come home from a 2 day hospital stay. I am currently on a 4 month waiting list for a hysterectomy and whilst on my way to work on Tuesday started to experience flooding. It was scary to say the least. I was admitted to hospital and during the following 8 hours I continued to flood and pass clots.

I have now been told they are trying to get my consultant to bring my op forward but her waiting list is already fully booked up for the next 2 months at least. I have been prescribed further supplies of norethisterone to tak with my Tranexamic acid but have been told that until I have my operation they cannot give me any assurances that the same thing won't happen again.

Feeling concerned to say the least and I'm just wondering if anyone else on here has also experienced this 'flooding'? It was constant and no amount of high absorbency pads would hold it and the clots I was passing were tennis ball size.

Hi essjaybee, yes have experienced flooding, made me feel really self concious and worried, this was after 2 days of relative normalness. I have changed my diet completely, for the past 6 days have gone for a no caffiene, sugar low carb diet and so far no major problems. Not fun but it works for me and will carry on til op is done

Hi Catherine, it's a relief to know I'm not alone in this. How long did your folding last? Mine was 8 hours non stop, hence my admission to hospital.

I'm just wondering if flooding for this long time is 'normal'?

Mine lasted an evening, and I got through a few blue coloured pads in less than an hour

hi! i was on Esmya for 3 months, finished a month ago. A few days after i finished i thought i felt the myoma growing back (which i posted on this forum), but the echo - which i had two weeks after i stopped - showed a shrinkage of ±20%, which is the median as reported in the initial clinical trial. I have a large myoma on th eoutside of the uterus, which went from 10x12x14 to 10x10x14 (so i lost 10x2x14 cm = 280 ml, and they measured conservatively). Although it is still large, it feels much better now, and it is not growing back yet. I might still have to go for op, but that decision has been postponed and i can get another round of esmya within a couple of months. My first period after stopping was very mild. While on esmya i had one breakthrough period with lots of flood and blood clots, lasting 3 days. I had no further side-effects and felt great on Esmya.

    Hi Dani

I'm amazed that you also say that you can take the Esmya for more than 3 months. I thought this was not possible. I am so pleased for you!
